The staff is professional and the maintenance is almost clairvoyant. Building hygiene is very good even-though dogs and cats are permitted. Rent and utilities increases are reasonable and other tenants are, for the most, part courteous.

Unfortunately this is where the good stuff stops. We knew this was a dog-friendly complex and so expected the usual dog bark here and there, instead, we were faced with daily and constant dog barking, scratching and yelping from many dogs around the complex. Complaints about noise in the corridors are heard between tenants. They have a system to deal with those dog owners that leave their dogs poop on the grounds, and yet I have seen poop along the walking grounds, even inside the building along the corridors. We are also very dissatisfied with the new package system the management has implemented, often packages are not reported/scanned in correctly, and sometimes our mail is not delivered on time due to problems receiving the access code required to enter the mail room near the leasing office. Its a hassle. Its unfortunate our stay was cut short because of the reasons stated above, we were hoping this was going to be a much more peaceful apt complex considering the rental rates.

Our apartment was beautiful, and we barely needed any maintenance requests while living there. From move in to move out, everything was seamless and easy. We really loved our first home together at a Costello property. The only landlord in Pittsburgh that I would recommend and give 5 stars!

I lived in Fifth and Neville for 3 years. This apartment is…read morevery popular. Don't get me wrong, they are popular because of their prime location, but their service really really sucks. 1) There is no AC in the apartment, so you have to buy your own. Summer is very humid and hot here in Pittsburgh. 2) The garbage area always smells so bad. Garbage is always overflowing. 3) Packages are left in the lobby, it will get lost, your risks to take. 4) The building is basically full of college students, expect to have loud music and party noises during weekend. 5) Rent increases every single year, from the initial 850 to now some ridiculous amount which you have to find out on your own. 6) Hidden fees that they will never tell you when you sign the lease. You have to pay $150 to take your name of the lease? Ridiculous. I would not live in Fifth and Neville ever again... I feel bad for the managers though, they came and left every year. You will get a new manager every year, it shows how much Amore "cares" about their customer service. I didn't want to write a review earlier, but Fifth and Neville kept sending me an email reminding to share my experience with it. So there you go. You are welcome.

The best part is that it's only a 5 minute walk to CMU campus. In addition, I am a runner, so there…read moreare many great routes you can do that start from Fifth, a relatively flat road. The game room is nice in the summertime when it gets too hot outside and you have no individual AC unit (Pro tip: the first floor can sometimes be 15 degrees cooler than the higher floors, excellent for the summer and for quick exits. I live on the first floor.) The one complaint would be that the walls are too thin so I can hear my neighbor's alarms from the bathroom and bedroom. Beware!

Shadyside Commons - Some floor plans offer loft-style living!

Location was great, close to everything, also very safe and quiet. Reasonable garage parking, nice gym (looked small but I honestly had never seen more than 3 people in the gym together, usually me by myself...so you would definitely find your equipment available) and patio (closed during winter). We had the loft floor plan which was really cool and came with a lot of storage space as well. The only downside, as mentioned by other residents, is the sound traveling issue. However it depends on your neighbor as well. This past year we had a wonderful neighbor who was extra quiet which made our evenings very peaceful :) Management was approachable and responsible. Angela was such an angel and ALWAYS on top of everything. I would give her six stars if I could! Overall I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is looking for a nice place to live in shadyside!

I lived at Shadyside Commons for 2 years. There are definitely pros and cons to living here. The…read morepros are fine but the cons outweigh them. PROS: 1) The building is well maintained with staff who work to keep it that way daily. 2) There is an onsite gym (though it's small) so you don't have to pay for a gym membership. 3) Apartments come with central air, dishwashers, disposals, wall to wall carpet and laundry. 4) Both garage and lot parking are available ($100 for garage, $50 for lot). CONS: 1) Since it's run by a big management company, you'll never be able to negotiate anything -- rent increase, parking charges, length of lease, breaking lease, etc. Everything is set in stone and management won't discuss changing it. 2) If you like to hear every single thing your neighbors are doing -- and I do mean EVERYTHING -- this is the place for you. In my 2 years I've heard the following: Phone conversations Sex Sneezing and coughing Music and TV Incessant walking and stomping from upstairs neighbors (in heels at 630am every day, no less) Appliances that shake your apartment (seriously, they shake so loud and so hard it feels like there's an earthquake happening) Kitchen cabinets opening and closing Putting away silverware Dogs barking Etc. As you can probably tell, the walls/floors/ceilings are THIN. We're talking paper here. If you're a light sleeper or you just like to have peace and quiet in your home, you won't find that here. 3) It's very close to the train tracks, so you'll hear them going by at all hours of the night and day. 4) As Pittsburgh rent goes, it's not cheap. You do get a decent amount of amenities and it's in the nice section of Shadyside (walkable to Walnut), but it's pricey. Overall my experience here was fine. Nice unit, fairly nice landlord, but definitely too much noise from neighboring apartments to make it five stars.
