Getting exasparated with exchanging on RCI. My mother and father banked some weeks on their account and want to gift to my family. I released a reservation I had since 7/4/2018 on 12/24 but for the last few days I have not been able to make any reservation on line. So I called yesterday and explained the situation in detail only to be told that I had to call back due to a computer problem by the rep. I spent hours before calling and then the call lasted an hour. I am not impressed or pleased. How can I get this done when the website is down and a phone call doesn't work? read more

If I could give a negative 5 star, I would. I just spoke with a supervisor about why I lost a resort exchange opportunity. I was told that when I was on the site and speaking to one of their representatives, the person told me that I should get out so that she could see it. However, once I got out, someone else grabbed it because it was a live system. It was completely my fault because if I liked it so much I should have clicked on the "confirm" button right away rather than talking to them. RCI is a total scam. Once you pay the exorbitant initial costs, you get nothing, you then have to pay many hundreds of dollars to make a reservation, change a destination, annual fees, ridiculous cleaning fees (over $1000!) etc. Also, once you arrive at your destination, after having spent far more than you would have if you had just reserved your vacation on any travel site, you are confronted with even more fees. read more

Since it isn't possible to give a 0 star review a 1 star review will have to do. My family and I booked a vacation with RCI at its Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa property. A series of negative experiences completely ruined our family experience. As you can imagine, traveling with family members who all work different jobs is hard to plan to ensure time off. We rarely get time off together so we counted on this being a wonderful time. RCI managed to destroy that experience. We prepaid travel to and from the airport. However, after following the guidelines of where to to go once we arrived in Mexico, there was no transportation for us there. Thankfully, a Mexican airport official allowed us to use his cellphone and translated a plethora of phone calls for us for nearly an hour before we were told our transportation was on the way. We waited nearly two hours for a service we had already paid for since we were afraid to get a taxi at the airport and risk paying twice. We later found out (the day before checking out) that once we arrived at the hotel we should've been greeted by a representative from the TRS side of the hotel. This never happened. Therefore, we were given a room in the wrong location, never received members bracelets or any of the accommodations/special amenities for the TRS members including access to the private TRS area (which was all paid for). Additionally, we lost out on the dining options available only to TRS member and the private pool area and the jitneys which take you around the property (again special ones are provided for members). On top of all of that, we were told to make reservations for dinner the day after check in at 11am. When we went to do so we were told all of the restaurants were fully booked and we could eat at the buffet. Thousands of dollars were spent for all inclusive and out only meal option was the buffet? When I asked why we weren't told to make reservations further in advance the answer I got was "these restaurants are popular" Once again, we later found out the RCI representative should have done the reservations with us as they have certain spots held for different parts of the resort and the online app. We work extremely hard to save for vacations and lost time going back and forth to reception and explaining what occurred to various staff. Additionally it is extremely unfair to pay for the exclusive services and not receive them. I would highly recommend if you are planning to go through RCI DON'T DO IT! read more

I have used RCI for over 30 years and wrote a review a couple months ago stating how wonderful they have always been, and that everyone giving bad reviews must have been talking about their travel company. However! After today's experience I too have to say that something has changed dramatically and this is not the A plus company it used to be. I have overy 140 trading value and couldn't get anything I used to get by booking this far ahead and only wanting the end of May in 2020! I believe they have lost many resorts to other time share exchange companies, and even now, my new deposits will likely not be going to them. Scam scam scam. Beware. We attended a sales pitch for Global Travel, powered by RCI, with the promise of a Las Vegas or Disney vacation AND a $100 dinner voucher. The sales pitch was impressive but we never make such decisions without thinking about it and checking it out. That saved us from the scam. Reviews for RCI Timeshare exchange are 99.9% one-star negative. The promised $100 dinner Voucher is a scam that gives you a couple of dollars off each meal at select restaurants--not the $100 dinner voucher the promised. To make it 100% a scam, the Las Vegas vacation has so many ridiculous restrictions its unusable. For example, you give them 3 dates, each 30 days apart, the first date at least 60 days from now, for departure on Mon. Tues. or Wed. only, along with a check for $150, and they will pick the date. Other restrictions make it insanely difficult to actually use this scam "free" vacation. Stay away from RCI and Global Travel. read more

I have been using RCI for several years and they continually get worse, so much so that I ended my membership today! My first experiences included working with rude and very unhelpful staff and then getting to Hawaii and not having a reservation - for which I had all the documentation. Also know that the costs they quote gets higher and higher as you plan your travel. It got so bad that I quit using them, neither banking my timeshares nor personally booking travel. As I still had many power points, I gave them to family members to use. Each year, this got more and more expensive, until this year it was going to cost me $497 to give my niece a week's vacation! This is AFTER I had given them my timeshares to give to another member. When I shared my concerns with a supervisor, I was met with a response of, "That's just the way it is! We have to make money." I have talked many people out of using RCI and will continue to do this! I would recommend that you look elsewhere when looking for a timeshare trading company! read more

We are Whyndam points owners and have transferred points to RCI several times, mainly for business travel because the resort options where we were traveling are RCI owned. RCI has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We lost points 2x. Once because they took us out of a reservation already booked and would not rebook it and lied about it being condemned, yet I called Priceline and booked a room at their "condemned" resort. Then we went to a couple resorts that were not maintained and one was disgusting, mold, stains on carpet, horrifying bad and we had to pay on Priceline because RCI could care less and would not find other accommodations even though we were 900 miles away. DON'T ever buy timeshare with them or transfer points to them because if you are not happy for any reason they will tell you to basically piss off! RCI is a SCAM!! read more

If I could give a rating below 1, I absolutely would. Customer service is awful and the operator was just rude! Wanted to make an adjustment to my booking and called last night, but there was no agent available - even on their emergency 24/7 line (they've never been excellent with customer service so I wasn't surprised). Once I called this morning, I was treated with nothing but hostility and they treated me like I was an idiot, when I am a paying guest! I have had a few pleasant experiences, I've stayed at their nice properties as well as their shoddy ones that are advertised as more luxurious than they really are. I have been an RCI member since 2015. Just like everyone else, we are adjusting to traveling during a global pandemic. We booked our trip from NJ to MA 2 months ago. MA has been a low risk state UNTIL TODAY. We were supposed to leave for our trip in 3 days but have to cancel because NJ requires you to quarantine for 2 weeks upon returning from a high risk state. Our jobs will require that we quarantine regardless of a negative COVID-19 test result. We cannot afford to take off an additional 2 weeks. I tried to explain this to the representative in hopes to get my points and $200 exchange fee back; however, the only solution I was given was to SPEND $129 to get a $200 credit. I pay a yearly membership fee, use points, and pay an exchange fee whenever I book. I was shocked that during a global pandemic the best solution they had for me was to spend more money for a credit. I asked to speak to a supervisor. The minute Ariana spoke on the phone, I knew it would be pointless. She already had an annoyed tone to her voice. She kept reading the same script that there was nothing they could do. RCI would rather lose a customer than to give me my money and points back that I would use at a later time to book a trip with them. If they offered me $200 credit without charging me for it, I would accept it. But the way she handled it was so poor. No empathy or desire to resolve my problem whatsoever. I would rate her a 0 if given the option. She wasn't even worthy of the 1. The need to cancel is out of our control. This public health crisis has been designated a global pandemic since March. This is the best policy RCI can come up with 8 months into this pandemic?? I truly do not want to do any further business with RCI. RCI is a highly unethical company. They cancelled a cruise I booked through them when my credit card "declined" for the final payment. They then took a $750 deposit from me and wouldn't return it stating it was because I cancelled it. Credit card company confirmed that it was their error as they improperly requested the money on the credit card. RCI continues to refuse to refund the deposit. Stay away!!! read more

I NEVER write reviews. I think this is my second review ever. But I want to prevent all others from making the same mistake we did. I would give RCI 0 points if it were an option. RCI is a complete waste of money. It is incredibly confusing to use - with no help from customer service as it is essentially out of RCI's hands (they don't ownt he resorts, or have a relationship with them in any regard). In order to even see what is available for booking, you are required to deposit "weeks" into your account. You make the payment prior to booking --- this is the ONLY way view resorts' trading power and availability. You must have trading power to see trading power. This often requires you to spend more than necessary, as you do not even know what is needed to reserve particular hotels. Sound confusing?! That's because IT IS!!! There is nothing more confusing than this booking process. In addition to that, there are fees associated at ever stage of the reservation (guest fees, combination of credit fees, extending your credit fees). All the credits expire and if the service can't accommodate you, there is no way to get any/all of your money credited back. Not to mention, many of the resorts only allow you book 1 time in 4 years through RCI. If you love a resort, you can't go back for 4 years. it is absurd. Lastly, the booking options are completely confusing, offering separate types of room without any description. If you wanted to book more than 1 room for a family occasion, you are often limited to 1 room for exchange. You have to pay cash for additional reservations. It is an absolutely horrendous service. I can't wait to NOT update my annual subscription fee and never deal with this service again. Customer service can't even book for you when you have issues online without charging you additional fees. RCI will completely waste your money and is useless. Every time we deal with them we are completely and utterly stunned at the policies and confused at the process. Do not make the same mistake we did!!! read more

Wish I could rate them less than 1 star. They are the most difficult company to do business with. Have a trip booked for 4/11/20 and requested to cancel and get a refund. They will only provide a credit. Must rebook, but not necessarily travel by 9/30/20 but I cannot search for vacations beyond 9/30 without paying them more money - just to SEARCH for a vacation, of which I may not find what I'm looking for. In these trying times, like a pandemic, one would think that they would refund to their customers since nobody is sure about what the future holds. VERY poor customer service. I do love owning and using timeshares and have been a member of RCI for over 20 years, but I rarely have a good experience using their online website to search for exchanges and vacations. Frequently their website is down or having issues or it bumps me out so I have to keep signing in and that frustrates the heck out of me. I have high speed internet service and up to date computer apps so I'm pretty sure it's the RCI website. I often have been forced to call customer service for support or to complete my travel plans and those people are a positive experience but using the online tools should be quick and easy - not cumbersome! read more

Have been an RCI member owner since 1979. Deeded fixed weeks. Hence own. [not points, not floating weeks] At one point we had 12 weeks of timeshare. Now down to 3 weeks. TO offer some background and help clarify - given my understanding - Resort condominiums international (RCI) is simply the "third party/middle man" we use to trade/exchange our weeks. They did not sell us the property nor do they manage the properties we own. They are not part of the home owners association, they do not have a say on our board. We as the HOA/Board decide if we want to allow RCI as one of the many companies to engage with trades on our property. That being said, I do not know the structure (anymore eg parent, sub, and of the one being mentioned in the original post) of "RCI vacations". Not sure if this is one of the public facing subsidiaries that offers last minute deals via things like groupon etc. RCI used to stand alone, then was bought my cendant who also owned Avis car rental, now RCI is part of Wyndham. Not sure who owns wyndham. My review: The company has changed both bad and GOOD over the decades. They have indeed modified their fees and personality like all the other businesses - banks, airlines, credit cards, cable tv - have done in order to survive. Overall my experience and rating has to include the entire experience. I am happier that they have an online booking system. Back in the day we had to pick up the corded telephone, dial long distance, and wait on hold... for hours. In the snow, without shoes, up hill, BOTH WAYS! Seriously though... RCI in circles is talked about at the 'nickle and dime" company. A fee for everything. Sound like SPIRIT airline? RYAN airlines in the UK? Well those two are the most PROFITABLE airlines out there. Maybe they all share the same playbook? The "CURRENCY" of RCI has changed too: And not just the weeks owners now having this currency called "trading powers" AKA if you will allow me to call them what they are... POINTS!! RCI is trying to get weeks folks to switch to points and using trading powers to help the philosophical transition. DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR WEEKS. I used to exchange for $39-$59 back in the day. Now it's $209. WTF?!? Gas was .79 cent a gal, now its avg $3 and has hit $5 - WTF?!? As with software providers in the 2000's and the SaaS providers of 2010's - there used to be "levels" of service gold, silver, platinum or with SaaS there is 'freemium" and then the paid-for version has more features. RCI is doing this with their premium memberships. a new "level" of services you get if you pay for them. THE SAME AS airline seats - refundable with no charge (seat $1000) versus the "sale" fare of $200 but you have no latitude if you need to change or cancel, you lose $75-$150 of your fare. Fair???? It's the way things are. You have to know what you are buying. SAME AS CELL PHONE DATA SERVICE plans - how many GBs do you pay for each month? 2gb, 4gb? What happens when you go over the limit? I hate that crap too.. caveat is to UNDERSTAND and not get all emotionally involved and buy the chocolate or magazines or gum or etc at the impulse point of check-out at the grocery store. But this is not a psychology review... its of RCI... or is it? It's more about you taking some responsibility. But TRUE you cannot control the customer service folks at RCI. Were you a member of RCI when they OUTSOURCED overseas. OMG!!! The number of times I would call and after waiting on hold get someone in India, Mexico, or heck even the northern territories of canada... I'd hang up, call back, and do this for like 3-4 times until I could understand the agent. So NOW they are all US based when I call and it is therefore better!!! Attitudes are a crap shoot, any CS department, even amazon, google, etc too, right? Problem is, my being old school RCI I've weathered the changes as noted above but I also now talk to customer service folks who've been there under 3 years or shorter so they only know what they know. They can't possibly understand what depth of knowledge I ahve about RCI systems and inner workings. I used to educate the reps even 5-10 years ago and they would then educate their supervisors who seemed to really appreciate the insight. Now, the system is entirely revamped. Not likely in my favor or your favor, but in business continuity. That is not good for you or me... though again, you can't appreciate the BAD becuase you are new only know it as it is, and you see it as bad. Depending upon what you actually "bought" - points, vacation club, etc - the rules maybe all slightly different on each case by case basis. See if you can exchange via the competition Vacation resorts international who also now own Interval international, or Geo vacation / geo premier, or find a timeshare owners group on facebook and avoid the middleman - if your "package" allows it - and trade from person to person - directly. lmk if I can help... read more

I just deleted the one star review I wrote a few weeks ago. This is because RCI has worked with me to resolve the problems I was having that had frustrated me. They did not give me any remuneration for my troubles, nor did I ask for any, but they were able to offer help with my difficulties with the website/operation. The only reason I haven't given them 4 stars is that, as far as trading goes, it takes me many hours of doing research (reading reviews both on and off the RCI website, calling resorts directly to obtain more detailed info) to be able to find resorts that I feel comfortable taking a chance on. After all, trading includes significant expenses (airfare, car rental, pet sitting, transport to and from airports, time off from work, the RCI yearly membership, the additional fee and insurance for each trade, regular travel insurance), so the last thing I want to get us into for that time and expense is a poorly rated resort or unit. This is something that has worked pretty well for us over the last 15 years because I still have the mental acuity and determination to put in the time and effort to weed through it all. However, even if you find a great unit, the resorts all have the final say as to which unit they will give you. A couple of times we were disappointed, but were able to live with it. A few other times that resorts opted to give us a different unit, it was an improvement over the original. My recommendation is, when and if you buy a timeshare, it should be at the exact resort, at the exact time of year that you will want to establish a vacation tradition, and just use your own unit every year. That will be the simplest. Or, if you are like us, and want to go to different places throughout the US and world, buy a resale of high point value and dig in to spend the time, energy and patience it takes to make successful trades more likely. Because I have always had more time than money, I opt to do the sometimes immense legwork it takes to get a nice Pinot Noir vacation on a beer budget, and RCI is pretty much the only game in town for trading. read more

Traded one week that was deposited with RCI on March 5, 2014, received a Confirmation on March 7 that I had the week, then a family matter came up and I had to cancel this week. I tried calling and emailing them Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they were not open. Call them first thing on Monday March 10, 2014, told I would lose my transfer fee of $ 219.00 and more then likely lose points when they put back into deposit pool. One (1) day late and was told sorry! When they asked me to come back to RCI that they have changed. LIARS, LIARS they have not changed they are still play games and you can hardly get a exchange with them PLEASE DONT FALL INTO THE TRAP LIKE I DID. Looking at all of the previous reviews I should have known better before I called RCI with a problem. A deposit I made months ago was never credit to my account. Even though the resort confirmed that it was a RCI deposit. They were willing to do NOTHING to make it right for a member since the early 1980's. Very poor customer service!!!!!!! read more

I was totally suckered by RCI, shame on me for not researching before I bought a timeshare but damn, the sales people are so good they wear you down for hours & get you to believe it's the best thing for your family. Timeshare means you have to use RCI to swap weeks for places you want to go. RCI means a yearly fee plus a fee every time you book a trip & at your home resort! Is a timeshare great sometimes? Yes, it's nice to stay in a condo instead of a hotel room but check online for all the people renting their timeshares rather than buying one. RCI suckered me into buying "points" because it's so superior over the weeks membership I had, yet I can't find a single place I want to go that I can book with my points! I want to bring my family to San Diego but all the places via RCI can only be booked for 1 night! Yeah, that's practical when I'm traveling from Massachusetts. I called them to complain & was informed me that I can book 7 nights if I do it a year in advance but oh sorry, with a points account you are only able to book a maximum of 10 months in advance! On top of your maintenance fee for your timeshare, you will have to pay about $200 to book an alternative resort after depositing your weeks/points. And even though we have a four start resort time share, we could never find a comparable one anywhere that we wanted to go in the two years we had to "exchange" when we wanted to go, as well as paying for their fees. And their "extra"vacations are not that great of a deal- you can find the same things on the travel sites. They never had any timeshares available in places like Hawaii and we had better luck finding things on VBRO which doesn't charge the all the fees. read more

I have been a member of RCI for years, probably 20+. I agree with all these people....I have such a difficult time even getting on their web site, as it is constantly "under development." How many outages does a website need to update these days? Unbelievable. I hope Wyndham reads these reviews and starts to realize what is happening with RCI. They called me for a 2 Night three-day stay in Las Vegas. They wanted an immediate deposit of $99. They said after I took a tour of a resort for two hours I would receive $100 gift card and the rest of the trip would be ours. Along with that they said they would give me tickets to shows, a room at a choice of a lot of locations on the strip(Trump hotel included), and a 20% off eating card at the casinos, a Ferris wheel ride along with another ride in Vegas. They also said that they would provide a shuttle to and from our hotel to the casinos. I did not make the purchase right away because I wanted to research it more. I researched it and I see that all over the Internet it has a one star rating out of thousands of ratings. If it sounds too good to be true, it must be. Altho' I have seen and read any number of low-star reviews about RCI on Yelp, I'm writing to give my highest rating in appreciation for the outstanding customer service I received on an issue I raised last week. Too much detail to go into, but suffice it to say--I was responded to by email within minutes and the necessary follow-up to resolve the issue was completed within hours, later the same day. I have been an RCI owner for nearly 20 years and this latest situation confirms my high regard for the good will and fine customer relations they have demonstrated both at my home resort and at the many we have traveled to over the years, using the points system. Actually, I would like to do a 3.5, but overall I am pleased with the value so far, so pleased that I purchased another timeshare at a specific resort on ebay just to get the use of that particular resort and accumulate more points. Yes, there are fees and yes, most of the resorts are not in the middle of a city. But with last minute bookings, I stayed in an above average 2 bedroom in Orlando for 4 weeks for less than a 1 bedroom would have cost for one week in a hotel of similar quality. The timeshare industry as a whole is a bit challenged right now and it is trying to please people -- I was pleased. read more

I had two different employees within 10 minutes tell me I had to transfer points from wyndham to rci to book. This is not true If you were misled like I was your points cannot be returned. Tried to discuss the issue with a mediator,supervisor with rci but she only had me proving her wrong about every aspect of the this bad situation. It is a chrome browser issue brought to my attention by a chat with a person on the rci website that knew what he was talking about cause I booked it after the fact. This company is as big a rip off as much as the time share industry that it represents. I booked a vacatiion 1 year in advance, then 4 months later they advised me the resort was going to have major construction for the time I was there and if I wamted to cancel I had to pay additional fees besides those I already paid, (see e- mail correspondence below) -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- - I am outraged at this letter. RCI has due diligence for member resorts ratings and accommodations. This construction was contracted well before my booking and should have been included in the RCI information about this resort. It is at the least deceptive advertising and fraud. RCI should revoke the resorts membership in RCI and reimburse members who booked there on false pretenses not only for their weeks but airfares as well. I do not accept your statement that your "standard cancellation guidelines will apply" and insist that another equal or better quality resort be found on Cayman Islands for the exact dates or have the resort or RCI reimbursement me for cost of an alternate vacation that I will book outside of RCI for the date of my vacation. I hope this will be solved in a timely fashion in order that I can secure my vacation without further needless aggravation and stress that this letter has caused. Two years ago we received a call from an RCI employee about a good cruise deal so my husband and I decided to do it and booked a cruise to South America, starting in Brazil. We talked with RCI many times during the two years leading up to the trip, but we were in for a horrible surprise when we went to the airport and found out that we could not board the plane due to the fact that we did not have a visa for Brazil. There are very few countries (mainly the ones in war-torn parts of the world) that require visas, so we did not even think to check. I called RCI and asked if they could do anything for us, and the customer service woman was very irritated that I was "wasting her time" and kept on telling me about their disclaimer (a link in the fine print to an external website to determine the need for a visa). I told her that my husband is not very computer savvy and did not know about going on the web site and she said that is not her problem. When I asked her to at least send a warning to other travelers, she said that is not going to happen and to go on the recommended web site and do it myself. How hard could it be to send a simple e-mail saying "Please be sure to check whether your visit requires a visa". RCI's attitude was horrible, and even the travelers insurance we purchased through RCI will not cover any of our trip. They lost very little from our ordeal, and we lost thousands... This is my warning... Please beware! read more

RCI is about you paying more money, and then again some more money. In the middle of a global pandemic, where travel is unsafe and we are all asked to stay home to decrease the spread of the virus, they are offering me a "special deal" to pay to extend my expiring weeks, that I've already paid to extend. Really? As a corporation, while they could be "doing the right thing" they are not. And, tho I did not swear or otherwise cause an issue, just asked to speak to supervisor, they told me they could not do that, and hung up on me. Talk about a company without a conscience. To make things worse...? their website today is advertising, on the home page, 4 locations in Florida, while Florida cases have skyrocketed and its a national hot spot. Truly unbelievable. Just realize if you use them, they don't care about you or your safety. But they will take more money from you as long as you're willing to keep paying. read more

My parents have had an account with this company for 20 years. Recently in the last few years, my parents have not been able to travel and have offered my sister and I their exchange points. This company has not made this easy to happen. Matter of fact, yesterday I received the worst customer service. I had found a property in Europe that I wanted to rent through points, I had my mother call and put it on hold. My mother then let me know that she had talked to someone and put the property on hold. All I had to do was call within 24 hours and I'd be able to confirm the booking. When I went to confirm the rental, I was told that there was nothing in my name and nothing on hold. I would have to have my mother call them again. So I did just that and they let her know that the property was no longer available. They gave her 4 other options in other towns that were not near the original destination and not easy to get to. Sadly I had already bought a plane ticket with the understanding that the property I wanted was on hold and available. RCI didn't seem to care either way. They didn't take any responsibility for their mistake ( i.e offering a deal in the original destination ). Now this isn't just a little trip down the road. This was an expensive plane ticket to a specific destination in Europe. In the meantime, my sister experienced something very similar. My mother called to put her destination on hold and when my sister called to confirm, she was told that my mother had to be on the phone in a 3 way call. We are on separate sides of the US and this isn't always an easy thing to do. They wouldn't even talk to my sister even though my mother had already called and put her info into the account. What is the point of paying for this service if they are so disorganized and have no integrity? I would never sign up with them and will likely talk my parents into using a different company. I so not recommend RCI at all unless you want a headache. read more

We've been with RCI for over 20 years and it has steadily gone downhill. Words cannot express my displeasure, but I will try. Website is awful, unintuitive, inefficient and horribly slow -- and that's when it is up and running. Overseas exchange rates are eye-wateringly high. Then you have to pay local fees on top of that. Most sites have very limited availability. Last example: we exchanged 60,000 points (our 1-week high season week, 2-BR week in the Colorado mountains is worth only 50,000) for a very tiny studio, off-season unit with no view in the Austrian Alps. The exchange fee was an additional several hundred dollars, plus we had to pay the resort a high per person per day fee as well. We will definitely be leaving RCI. read more
