We have used RC Roofing since 2013, when it was time to replace the roof for our house in Rossmoor. Richard, the owner, advised us to install insulating underlayment, which was well worth the extra expense. It truly helps to keep the heat out and therefore saves energy to cool the house down during the summer. When a raccoon family did some roof damage, they took care of the repair. Still awesome looking roof just like it looked when installed by RC Roofing, Downey. See picture #4 of the Ensoltis hybrid tile on my house in 2013 which replaced wood shake. In 2018, the roof still looks new. Best decision ever! My home stays cool even as each year the weather temperatures have become hotter. The insulated roof keeps my home no hotter than 83 degrees when outside temperatures rise above 90 degrees. Ensoltis has reduced my electric costs due to less A/C use. They were clear in defining their scope of work and were flexible at working with us to address our specific needs. I have actually been meaning to review this company for a few years now. I hired Richard to remove 20+ year old solar hot water panels on my parent's roof that had actually broken through and damaged the roof. RC roofing gave the most reasonable price (at least $1k under the next bid) and completed the work quickly. He removed the panels and repaired the roof and the wood components underneath that had water damage. There have been many rains since and not a single leak or issue. 7 years ago I paid him $11k to replace 3 tab shingle roof and the next year after heavy rain the roof leaked. I call them to fix and they applied mastic and said that the roof should be fixed. He never went into attic to investigate the source of the leak. Couple of months past after that and it leaked again same spot. I called again and they apply mastic again. Once again after heavy rains they came with mastic and said that will fixed it but never found source of leak. I was wrong for trusting Richard words and I had to paid. He is a dishonest contractor and will have his license revoked with state board. Please do not hire this dishonest roofing contractor. read more

5 stars only because 6 stars isn't an option. Complicated low slope residential roof with mansard perimeter and scupper drains. I got 3 quotes prior to RC. Nick, who provides the assessment and estimate was by far the most prepared and professional of all the companies that quoted the job. Nick responded right away, scheduled a time to come out. Always courteous. The assessment was extremely thorough, he walked the entire roof and around the perimeter with me, flew a drone to get images, and took a lot of time to discuss materials, options and make recommendations. Rick, the owner, then came out to do a final inspection before the work started, also very courteous and detailed in his discussion of how the project would proceed. Super impressive. Long story short, the work started and was completed on the timeline they promised. Rick came out several times to assess the progress and make any needed adjustments to the work. Crew was super nice and hard-working. Had a big rain in the middle of the project. They covered everything with plastic but we discovered a small leak in the garage late at night. They responded immediately and two of the crew came out at 11pm in a driving rain, located the source and stopped the leaking. Job was made more complicated because we had to replace a rooftop HVAC system at the same time, and also had to remove some solar panels to complete the fascia work. Despite these complicating factors, Rick, Nick and the team had no problem coordinating with the HVAC and Solar contractors to make the project proceed smoothly and without delay. A little over 2 years ago I had RC Roofing install a new roof. During the install, I got a call from Bob telling me that he did not realize that the back of my house had a overhang with roofing that was not included in the estimate, so he was going to have to charge me extra for materials. As it turned out, he did not go in my backyard as he was doing the estimate. Another problem that I noticed while the workers were here was that nail tips were coming through the eaves in my front porch. They took the nails out and did not repair the little holes. Since the roof install, I have been having a leak from where my AC is located on my roof. I called a couple of time to try to get them to check it out. Bob basically told me that he thought it was the flashing or roofing under the AC that needed to be repaired. I would have to have the AC moved and the roof fixed, then put the AC back. At the end of last year I had my AC person come out. He used a sealant around the unit and I was hoping that would stop any leaking. This past week, we had lots of rain and sure enough, the leak persisted. I called Bob and told him I decided to replace the AC. I asked him if his crew could place plastic over the AC until the new AC was installed. I also told him that I would need his company to install roofing around the new AC unit once it was installed. He told me that his men would be out that afternoon. I waited and waited all day. I called him about 2 pm and he said they would be coming out. About 6 pm, no one had shown up. I called Bob and he told me that they weren't going to make it after all. It was too late and they got delayed at another job. He said there were many other customer that were having major emergencies that they were taking care of (implying that my job was not an emergency). I told him I was very unhappy with this. I told him I did not understand why he did not call met to let me know they weren't coming. He said, "Are you done? I could get really mad right now, but I am not. Do you want us to come tomorrow morning?" I was shocked at how Bob reacted to my customer service concerns. I guess Bob does not feel they need to have good customer service because they have been in business so long. Or, worst yet, he must think he can disrespect female customers...unbelievable! These guys put a new vinyl IB roof on the flat part of my roof. Did a professional job and cleaned up the spent materials. I noticed a small leak later that may have been from an area they didn't work on since it was right at the edge of a chimney. They came out, inspected, and replaced the bordering section of IB just to be sure and also fixed some of the possible chimney cracks that they weren't really responsible for. Cobra ridge caps incorrectly installed, not the full length of ridge and coming lose and not in a straight line. No Cobra venting on ridge on back bedroom. The cut for the Cobra Venting is cut to wide. Leaking in area where garage roof meets the house, drip marks on garage wall, sheathing is wet. In that area on the roof the shingles do not come up to the house wall as you will see in the pictures. Visible broken and cracked sheathing in garage. I have yet to check the attic on the house for broken or cracked sheathing or leaks. I have several nail penetrations on the eaves. Replaced a shiplap board on eave installed crooked and not painted. Replaced a 18" or so board on the eave cut to short at least a ¼" to 3/8" gap on one side and a knot hole on the other and not painted. Exposed nails driven in roof flashings, shingles, ridge caps and covered with roofing cement which will last 6 months to three years and more leaks. Roofing cement is used to adhere roofing to flashing or ridge caps, not to cover nails Many exposed nails driven in shingles, ridge caps for who knows why. 02/14/2019 More leaks. read more

It was a bad experience. I called RC Roofing on the recommendation of a friend, and they came out and bid the work. They proceeded to do the work - and then gave me a final bill for **220% of the initial written estimate**. They never called me to authorize the additional work or expense -- in violation of their own contract, which says they will call for permission before performing work in excess of their estimate. Although I felt completely wronged by what I viewed as a bait and switch, I split the difference with the company (in fact, paid them a little bit more than the midway point). Less than two weeks later, when I was having roof leaks again, I called and emailed - several times. They didn't return the first several calls or emails. When I finally managed to get them on the phone, they scheduled the appointment - but then canceled it on 1 hours' advance notice. I attempted several more times after that to re-schedule - with no response. Finally, I received an emailed response from the owner to the effect of 'We're too busy. Go find someone else. Let's end this on a good note.' Obviously, nothing about this experience feels like we're ending it 'on a good note.' I feel cheated, and I wasted my time and money. read more
