He replaced two light fixtures in my kitchen and they are hanging down from the ceiling, not flush with the ceiling like they are supposed to be. He said he would fix them when he came back to repair the damage in #3, which he never did. 2. He replaced my outdoor light fixture and it was crooked. However, he did fix it when he returned to repair other damage that he had caused (see #4). 3. He upgraded my porcelain sink to a stainless steel sink and, in the process, cracked 5 tiles that he said he would come back and fix. It took me having to hunt him down for two months for him to finally tell me that my particular tiles had been discontinued and I would have to replace my countertops (at my own expense, I figure, because when I told him that he had the obligation to pay for the replacement countertops, he did not text me back). 4. After he replaced the sink, when I used my dishwasher, it flooded underneath the sink and caused tons of water damage. He came a few days later to "fix it," but the same thing happened again and he insisted to me that it was not the result of his work (that the tubes were clogged). He also told me that he would repair the water damage, but his solution was that he would "paint over it," not replace the damaged wood. When I started researching him, I saw that he was on Thumbtack and had several good reviews, but also a few really bad ones (with stories quite similar to mine). When I went to leave him a review on Thumbtack, it would not let me. When I called customer service, they told me that their policy was that I could not leave a review unless I had hired him through the app., which I had not. I went back and forth with them - explaining that I paid him $1500 only to have all this damage done to my home and even sent them 8 pictures of the damage. They still would not let me leave a review. The customer service representative told me that she had just been talking to Ismael about a complaint that they had received about him from another customer. But she also told me that they were going to let him stay on the app! 5. When I hired another repairman to fix my dishwasher, he was appalled by the "Mickey Mouse" job (his words) that had been done to connect the dishwasher tubes after the sink installation. Ismael would only communicate with me if I texted him first, even though he was supposed to be working on finding tiles so that he could replace the ones he cracked. He would never give me updates like a professional should do; I always had to hunt him down for updates. As another customer states, he would say he would come to fix the issues, but then when I gave him my schedule, he would not text me back. If you look at his responses to his customer complaints on Thumbtack, he blames the customers rather than taking responsibility for the issues that he caused himself. He did the same to me, telling me that he was going to fix my dishwasher, but "unfortunately I went and hired another contractor" to do it (after I had let him try to fix it and he could not. But the outages continued. Jamison has been our go-to electrician, but we were unable to get them out over this past year because they were booked weeks in advance. However, this week they were available. They didn't just send one guy out. They sent a crew. They were here for hours on day one, trying to find what had been causing the illusive glitch. They tweaked some areas vulnerable to water, and fixed a compromised switch, but admitted that they'd found no decisive "smoking gun." But they didn't give up. Day two they were back at it. Time for surgery on our courtyard floor. After hours of digging, probing, thinking, and moving things around, there came, through the wind and the cold, this jubilant and authoritative declaration: "We found it! Here's your problem right here!" And there it was... an underground conduit that had been lanced in two; shriveled from arcing and who knows what. I haven't even mentioned the attitude, friendliness, and approachability of each of these workers. You can tell when people really care. And the price was HALF of that which had been quoted by another vendor. If you have an electrical issue, be of good cheer. Hope is only a personable phone call away. Just call as soon as you can.

Last Summer, we hired AV Roofing to fix our roof. We had just done a cash-out refinance to make all repairs on the house. We pretty much said "fix the roof so it doesn't leak anymore." They came out and redid half of the front of our home. We also hired them to make sure the area our solar panels were going in was sound. It was a good chunk of change, but that was what the money was for. However, the exact same spot that always leaked started leaking again after the very first rain a couple months after they were done. We were under warranty but they wanted to charge us to clean out the channels that they had just redone. They had even cut back the tree when they were working, so I couldn't understand how it had gotten full of leaves and caused another leak in just a couple of months. But they did eventually come out and fix it for free. Then the tropical storm hit this summer. A new leak sprouted in a brand new area, but just a few feet away from the original leak. A bad one. It tore a three foot-wide hole in the ceiling in my office. I waited a coupe weeks after the storm, figuring everybody was calling about leaks after that storm. However, I was still told it would be three weeks before they would have someone out in our area just to do an estimate. After a couple of weeks, I had to reach out to find out if we had a date for the estimate. That's when they suddenly had an opening the next day and if I couldn't take that, it wouldn't be for another couple weeks. Even though we asked them last summer to just make sure the roof was good, they still said the new leak wasn't covered. I didn't want to keep going with them, but they were the cheapest estimate I got (having spent all our re-fi money on other repairs after we thought we got the roof fixed), so I signed the proposal on 10/24. I was told they were scheduling for November and Early December. I emailed several times and was told I'm not on the schedule yet. Last time I made contact I was told "...looks more like the week of December 11th or 18th." Well, it's the 20th of December and still absolute silence from them. I've gone ahead and signed a contract with another roofer. Waiting for AV Roofing now means I don't have a fix date until March, but at least I have a date!
