Read for more details below: How I got overcharged : I was going through receipts after my bottom end was rebuilt, and noticed that I was charged 690 USD for a 6 cylinder hone job with a torque plate. That's 115 USD per cylinder, for a simple hone. On his website, the price is specified as 30 dollars per cylinder. So that's an 85 dollar discrepancy PER CYLINDER. Initially I thought it was a simple calculation error. But then I remembered that Silvano told me that he had never worked on my engine before so I deduced he most likely did not have a torque plate for my engine. On a hunch, i calculated the price difference between my hone job (690 USD) and the price listed on his website (30 x 6 = 180) which came out to be 690 - 180 = 510. I looked up the price of a torque plate for my engine online and sure enough, it was extremely close to 510 (around 500 USD). I'm even more sure about this, because he had to do a second hone job due to different pistons being used down the line, and this time (most likely because he already bought the torque plate) the price for the hone was just 180 and not 690. I enquired about the price difference, and to give him a chance to own up, I did not say anything about my research and simply asked him about why I was charged so much for a simple hone job. I was given some bullshit answer about how my hone was very complicated because it took two days and he had to let the block cool down between passes. I didn't want to pick a fight and honestly, at that point I was fed up with the whole process and how unresponsive he was at times with regards to communication. If you're getting work done by him, look out for this and go through all your estimates with a fine toothed comb. My mistake was to trust him and pay the invoice without reviewing it completely - don't make the same mistake. Quality of work was ok.

Robert builds race engines and I was concerned that, although he was recommended to me, he wouldn't want to deal with a tiny 1275cc motor. But I was wrong. Robert told me he loves these old British motors and even had the smaller boring and honing tools needed. He was VERY helpful, gave me a tour of the shop that has cool CNC machines. He also took measurements while I was there and we learned that the engine was an unmolested original - a perfect rebuild candidate. I was disappointed that wait time was 6+ weeks (he has a lot of work in his shop), but the end-result was well worth the wait. I checked all the machine tolerances after I got the parts back and they were consistent across the board. If you are not in a hurry, I highly recommend Robert and RNR Custom Engines!

I don't know this guy, he's not an employee there, and I had no idea why he was contacting me in the first place. Come to find out, RNR Custom Engines apparently allows their customers to look through other customers' engine parts. That raises some serious concerns for me when it comes to privacy, professionalism, and how customer projects are handled. This place came highly recommended to me, which is why I'm extremely disappointed with my experience. After everything that has happened, I personally would steer clear, folks. The amount of drama and questionable communication surrounding this place is not something you want to be involved with. I tried reaching out to the owner, Scott, to make him aware of my concerns and hopefully get some help or clarification. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like he took responsibility for the situation or made any real effort to help address my concerns. Defensive would be the best way I can describe his response. I'm sharing my experience so others can make their own informed decision. Do your research and ask plenty of questions before trusting someone with your engine.
