PROS: Brian Rainey, owner, is reliable, trustworthy, and performs quality work. Prior to hiring Brian I received misinformation from another contractor who lied in order to inflate his price. He claimed I couldn't reuse the electric outlets in my island, that I would need a new subpanel for my wall oven, and that it was better to install entirely new LED lights than retrofit six existing cans. Not only did Brian quote a reasonable price, he was able to reuse existing island electric, install new 30A 240V necessary for the wall oven without a new panel, and retrofit the six existing cans to LED with no worries. He also reconfigured placement of these lights to center them on the island. Brain and his crew completed the following additional jobs for me: * 6 recessed lights in cathedral ceiling on a dimmer switch * 2 recessed lights in family room on a dimmer * light in hall closet * whole house surge protector * 2 pendant lights over kitchen island * Moved kitchen phone jack to another room * Relocated several outlets Brian and his employees arrive on time, perform quality work, and clean up after themselves. Brian offers a military discount. CONS: When Brian quotes he expects all jobs (or many) on his quote to be performed same time. This is most cost/time effective for him. On two occasions Brian or his workers had to return because they were unable to complete jobs they were contracted for. Once was when relocating the kitchen phone jack to another room. Brian's men couldn't find the phone line in the wall and had to return to complete just that job. The price then increased to $95 per hour. When they were tinkering around in the attic searching for the phone line my husband pointed out that the line was right there in the wall downstairs and there was no need to search in the attic. They found it straightaway in the wall and were embarrassed but charged me the $95 anyway. Brain admitted they should have known better, but since I hadn't pointed things out to them right off the bat and they had to spend time in the attic, he credited me $45 (for his employees mistake), rather than the full $95. The second occasion involved a new custom island I had a carpenter installing. I asked Brian if he wanted holes cut for the double electric outlets. Brian said, "No, we cut into fine furniture all the time." Later, after the carpenter was long gone Brian said he couldn't cut into the island; there appeared to be a solid piece of wood on each side. So we delayed the job until the carpenter could return (one week later) to cut holes. While the carpenter was here that day I texted Brian to ask if he wanted additional holes cut so he could thread wires right to left to reach both outlets. He texted that the two rectangular holes on the sides were all he needed. His text wasn't clear so I called and left a voice message that if he wanted wire holes please contact me before the carpenter goes. Since Brian had said he was unable to cut into the island originally, and it was the carpenter's last day, I was pretty panicked. When Brian returned to complete the island electric I knew he was annoyed, but he also admitted that he could have done the original cutting himself. No big deal to me, but Brian doesn't like to return to complete just one job, even if it is actually his, or his employees mistake that causes this. After all of the above there was one last job, relocating the kitchen fan, that I had to delay until I knew the size of my new kitchen table. (We were centering fan above table.). When I texted Brian to let him know we were ready he texted back, "The reduced cost you have on your quote for $95 assumed that it would be done with other items so I will not be able to discount it that steeply. If we are going to come by only to relocate the fan total cost will be $135." I was shocked. Having given Brian in excess of $3400 worth of business was he seriously going to bump up price? I texted back that I expect him to honor his original quote in good faith. He never responded. I had another electrician do the job. There are two sides to every story, and Brian has his perspective, but to my mind he didn't appreciate my business. Like many contractors building a business, after they reach a certain point when they aren't hungry, the attitude changes. He should probably clarify on his contract that his quote is based on the assumption that multiple jobs be completed at once. I still recommend RB Electric for their quality work, but be aware that there are many electricians to choose from. Just do your due diligence, get several quotes, and ask lots of questions. My husband and I had recently bought a new home that had old halogen recessed lighting. Some of the lights had burned out and these bulbs are almost obsolete, the fixture literally crumbled in my husbands hand when he went to change the bulb! We had to switch to an LED setup, from the first phone call, Brian was awesome! He gave us a good deal because we had so many to change, (almost 30!) The electrician, Jaime, that came out, sent me a text to let me know he was on his way, and arrived on time. He did a walkthrough with me to see everything we needed done. Told me approximately how long it would be, and coming off a 12 hour Nightshift, and driving home almost 2 hours, he was so nice about me napping while he worked. My husband was there and was asking him all kinds of questions, and he never once acted bothered. Very friendly guy and a wonderful example of professionalism. We were having some kitchen counters installed, when by the end of the day we had no electricity in our kitchen. My husband has basic electrical skills...thinking it was GFI switch, he ran over to Home Depot to pick up a replacement..didn't work. So we thought perhaps it was the breaker. I emailed RB after hours to set up an appt. within 5 mins. we received a call and arranged an appt for the following day. Jamie was our tech guy...he was great!! He was prompt, polite and went straight to work (having to work around the plumber/contractor). He handled himself wonderfully. He was very thorough...checking every outlet and the breaker...etc. Turns out the workers drilled a screw in the electrical line..the contractor happened to be there and picked up the bill. I had requested a receipt...since I signed to ok the work...RB promptly emailed me and the contractor with a receipt. Yes this was a small job...but it's how they handle these small jobs that enable you to trust them with something larger. I will not hesitate to call RB for all our future electrical issues. Jaime was quick to respond to my request for a quote to install a fan light which also included running electricity to the area. The quote was so reasonable & fair (I had already received quotes from other companies). They promptly set up a day & time to do the job. What I really loved was that I didn't have to hire someone else to repair the drywall! Jaime did such an awesome job that I couldn't even see where the holes (2) were made. I was so impressed with Jaime's creative way of running the electrical line! He literally "brainstormed" a way of doing it that didn't require cutting many holes in my wall & ceiling like the other companies had said would be the only way to run the line. Our yard lighting, consisting of 15 outdoor fixtures, and a transformer/controller, ceased lighting up in the evening a couple of days ago. The outlet supplying power to the feed wire was "hot," so the fault had to be a cut in the feed wire (a very difficult thing to find), or a failure of the transformer/controller. We called Brian, who'd done some work for us before, and made an appointment for the following day. The technician from RB, Tom, was on-time, and went right to work after asking a few questions. Tom found and fixed the problem in less than an hour, during which he also explained how the problem had occurred -- without interrupting the flow of his work. We were delighted with the outcome, and with the very reasonable price we paid. Wow! I finally found a contractor that will answer their phone, provide excellent customer service, do fantastic/efficient work in a timely manner and all at a fair price! I called Brian after being told by another electrical service provider that I would need to upgrade my whole electrical panel and that I did not have enough room for the breaker I needed to install my level 2 car charger. Brian asked me over the phone to send him a photo of my panel box(saving both of us time). He told me there was plenty of room for the breaker, he completed the job, the charger works perfect, and he saved us $1500 (price for unnecessarily "upgrading" our panel)! Thank you Brian!! I needed ten CFL replaced with LEDs in my kitchen and two bathrooms. I scheduled an 8:00 am appointment for today, Monday 4/29/2024. Yesterday I received a reminder text confirming the appointment. Tom with RB Electrical Service turned up 2 minutes early (love it!) for the appointment and got to work straight away. He laid out plastic sheets before starting, and he worked very efficiently. In all, he was here for a little over 2 hours. He vacuumed each work site after completing the work. Everything was great! The owner of the company, Brian Rainey was very responsive to my voice mails, and had no trouble adjusting the number of units as apparently I cannot count correctly. Following and SCE planned outage, our microwave/oven did not come back up correctly. We tried the manufacturer's procedures to no avail. We left a message with RB Monday afternoon. Brian got back to us before 5 and set up a service visit for Wednesday. Brian was here right on time. After popping off the breaker panel he immediately saw a wire had come loose because of bad installation. Since he was too fast, we also asked him to look at our garbage disposal. They provided an excellent quality of work with a very competitive pricing - and trust me, I did shop around for the pricing. The whole fuse box replacement project can be a very stressful undertaking what with obtaining the Citi permit first and the City inspection of the completed project afterwards. Wanted a ceiling fan installed. We were given a price for the work and was happy with the amount. Brian arrived right on time and went right to work. He about where we wanted the fan installed. Because there was no wiring in the ceiling he went into the ceiling and within an hour and a half the fan was installed. We had one plug that needed replaced. Brian was great answered all our questioned. Showed us how to use the fan remote. He made sure that everything was clean and it looked like he was never there. I hired RB to install 2 coach lights including boxes and wiring outside of my house. RB Electrical quoted me a price that was very fair.
