Finding a competent, honest, reasonably priced electrician locally is such a valuable resource. This was my first time using Star Lighting and Electrical, But it's certainly won't be my last. Tim responded to my inquiry for help very quickly. He was one of the first two or three to reach out and asked if he could swing by the following day for a free estimate. Instead I sent him a couple of detailed photos showing where the existing outlet was and then the opposite side of the wall where I wanted a new outlet. He got back to me with a quote that was both fair and reasonable. Aaron showed up on time and in less than an hour, had my new outlet installed and everything cleaned up and looking great. I have other work that I would like to have done so I have requested a quote. These guys have absolutely earned my trust and business moving forward. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, it's tough to afford quality services, so when they are offered right out of the gate without having to haggle or cajole, it's very much appreciated. I would highly recommend Star lighting & electrical they were amazing!! They took a glass cooktop out and a wall oven. They also put in electrical outlets and fixed a wiring problem that was done by someone else. The wiring done by the previous person could literally have led to an electrical fire. I'm pretty sure when they took on the job they expected the job to last no more than an hour but they were here for almost 4 hours fixing the wiring problem. They were very punctual, courteous and polite. They explained things in terms that made sense to me. they cleaned up everything and they even emptied my trash before they left. Tim did a big project for me regarding electrical circuits that first started out didn't work in the kitchen, to a whole situation I had with a previous contractor regarding not completing city rules and such! He spotted this out right in the first initial visit and didn't charge me, but laid it all out on what needs to be done, and also physically was there to meet with the right people to get the job done in a timely manner. Tim came out to install a wifi enabled 3-switch light panel that had a mess of wires in the small electrical box. They were all painted over so I didn't want to touch them...and good thing because it was a pain to deal with. At least Tim handled with it in a positive & professional way. He's really a good guy. I would have been cursing the gods while getting shocked over and over. I also asked him to take a look at the doorbell system. I thought the doorbell chime or transformer wasn't working, but Tim isolated it down to the button. But because I had already bought a new chime, transformer, and video doorbell already, I asked him to install them all. The new transformer was necessary for the video doorbell to provide enough power. Anyways, the whole job helped me out from doing it all myself, and made sure that the electrical works the way it should. Two big honey-do tasks off my list!! It's nice to meet good people who do great work at a fair price. I forgot to mention that he was the first to respond to my request for help here on Yelp. Tim and his son did a fantastic job on multiple projects at our house. I was initially looking for help to run a 220V line for my hot tub on the opposite corner of my house from the electrical box. I got quotes from 4 different companies. I got the best "vibe" from Tim who pointed out several aspects of the job that no one else mentioned and was super responsive on the quote and on scheduling the work. Once they were onsite, we identified a couple other jobs and asked them to quote, which they did on the spot, and added to the scope same day. Incredibly flexible and responsive. They helped us relocate light fixtures, wire in wall sconces, wire the house with cable for our internet, and helped us figure out an inexpensive way to add a light switch on the other end of the kitchen (without opening any walls!). They are really good at explaining the different ways they could go about each project, and the relative cost of each one. (For example, can I live with my dining room light fixture being 1" off center from the table so that we don't have to drill through any ceiling beams and we can keep the project far less expensive or do I want it to be perfect regardless of the cost?) I love working with them on my own home projects, but as a Realtor, I also call them every time one of my clients needs an electrician. We contacted Star Electrical to swap out a 3-prong electrical cord on our dryer to a 4-prong one, and would highly recommend them! The process was seamless and we were really happy with the work - Tim responded quickly and came over to take a look and give an estimate, and Aaron came over to swap out the cord on another date. Their pricing is competitive. They were fast, super knowledgeable, and clearly explained what was being done - with electrical work, safety is so important, and I felt very comfortable and confident in their expertise. While installing the cord, Aaron discovered that part of the original installation had been done incorrectly, which was so helpful to us since our dryer was still under warranty, and we could still contact LG to correct the issue. Tim, Aaron, and other members of the team are experienced, reliable, creative and extremely hard working. They upgraded my electrical panel at the demand of Tesla for my solar roof. The upgrade was immensely complicated given the location of my existing panel over the gas main and no room around it. They liaised with PG&E, Alameda County and Tesla to determine the required new location that was within code and worked with the Tesla equipment. After numerous calls, photos, and visits, Tim was able to coordinate all parties to an agreement and then do the work to move the panel, add a roof riser, and get both PG&E and the county to sign off. In the meantime, I had Tim and team replace all of my outdated wiring, outlets and switches (my house is 1948), as well as move my inbound internet connection to the other side of my house. They also hardwired all of my rooms to improve on the poor internal wifi due to plaster walls, in addition to upgrading all my canned lighting. They completed all work within very reasonable estimates and in a timely fashion. They always communicated when to expect them, they were on time, friendly and helpful. I always felt like I could rely on them and trust them, for their work and being in my home. I have a big job in the backyard next and am delighted to have Tim, Aaron and team on my team for that job. Having service providers you can trust and that you can turn to for expert advice as well as assistance when anything unexpected turns up is invaluable. First off, this business is not in San Carlos - it's in Hayward. I asked for 2 ceiling fans to be installed. Tim sent one of his workers to do the job and overcharged, which I thought was ok as long as the work was professional and clean. Unfortunately it was not. The guy left with the fans wobbling. There were also little pieces of electrical wire on my floor. He eventually came back and fixed one of the fans and apologized for leaving them the way he did, but the 2nd one he gave up on. When taking down that fan, I found one of the screws that held the mouting bracket to the light box was very loose, which was causing the wobble. What an ameteur ! I communicated with Tim and he was unapologetic and unresponsive. He apparently thinks very highly of himself but his service isn't professional quality and you would be better off hiring a handyman. Tim charges a $150 "trip charge" just to show up and thereafter his rates get fuzzy, depending on who you talk to at his company. All in all, I hope to never enounter such a poor service company again! read more
