I've been shopping at Ray's in Gold Beach, OR for over 25 years. Today I received the worst service EVER. Checker was Valeria. she didn't know where canned milk was located. At check out I requested plastic bags, bagged light and explained I have a really bad back. I had 4 total bags, each heavier than the last. she had to rebag into 6 bags that I could lift. Took a 5lb bag of potatoes out of one. She tossed the last bag up onto the debit station and asked "Is that light enough?" She put a big bottle of sauce on top of a bunch of bananas. Im always courteous to checkers, so when I was done paying I nicely said "" Thanks for your help". She glared at me. The next time I go into Ray's and she's the only checker, I'll leave and head to the competitor. read more

Our family came to Gold Beach for a week and I've been to other Rays before, so I figured this would be a safe bet. I was really REALLY wrong. First, this location is TINY, was poorly stocked, and the produce was bad. While shopping, I took the last of a LOT of items I was looking for, and didn't find a bunch of things I'd assume I could find at a Ray's. I also went in on a Sunday afternoon and shopped for our family for the week. Apparently they don't like that at this location. I had a full cart and when I pulled up to the check out, the cashier literally looked at my cart and said "oh sh*t" and started loading my groceries. It was a full cart but not ridiculously full. It was groceries for four for a week for pete's sake. The lady who got in line behind me also saw my cart and immediately began screaming across the store for another checker to open up. Someone came to help bag my groceries and literally just threw things into bags. Like....loaf of bread on the bottom under three cans and a half gallon of juice. Just crazy. Got to our rental and had to immediately throw away half the produce because it was bad/moldy/rotten once we opened it up. The pricing was SO WEIRD. $11 siracha and $2 mayo. I have no idea what the heck is going on there. All in all, if you need a quick basic, sure....stop in here I guess. If you need to actually shop or you want any reliable selection.....go elsewhere. read more

Good selection and friendly staff. Had a selection of gluten free items as well! Store was clean and they had great parking.

Great place to go for staples. The staff are very friendly. Added bonus: Ray's plays great music while grocery shopping.

Had a special request for helium tomatoes and Ray's market came through exceeding my expectations. They were extremely helpful, easy work with, cost was under my budget and my order came in early in excellent condition.  I would recommend Ray's market over any in town.  BTW the helium tomatoes were EXCELLENT with some of their bacon and bread. We came up to Gold Beach for a week and bought groceries almost every other day from Ray's via the Mercato app. The deli sandwiches were fresh and delicious, and prices were reasonable. The staff was fast (we usually got our orders filled in under an hour), friendly, and really accommodating with adding last-minute items we forgot in our initial order or personally bringing groceries out to the parking lot. We totally DON'T get this kind of friendly, efficient service in L.A., so really appreciated it here. It was one of the best parts of our experience in Gold Beach! read more

This grocery store is right off highway 101. It's a very convenient place to load up on supplies while traversing the coast north to Washington or south back home to California. Ever bought pre-wrapped seafood from a grocery store? It's usually not this fresh. So this was a surprise for me that this store had some pretty fresh catch. I really like local places that leverage their strong points. Then again, this is an Oregon coastal town. Talking about coastal towns, while parked in the parking lot, a series of very loud sirens went off. My guess? These were tsunami warnings. How ironic, that as I write this report, an 8.8 quake hit Japan tonight. I'm watching footage of the city of Sendai (Miyagi Prefecture, 300km/180miles north of Tokyo) get engulfed by tsunami waves. A few years ago, I was up in Sendai visiting JVC on a business trip...and Sendai is flat farmland, with real farmers wearing wooden hats (no-trendy-Tokyo-types hanging out at the JR station here). So, it's disturbing see on TV, busses and cars float; and people on top of the airport roof and the Japan Rails roof trying to survive ... Tsunamis travel about the speed of an airliner...so this siren should sound off again in probably 6 hours when the waves from this disaster hit our part of the world. I know Rays is expensive, but what I don't know is how they are MORE expensive than Safeway and still stay in business. Especially with McKay's right down the road in this town. $6.59 for a pack of Ballpark hotdogs? Are you kidding?! That's more than I've ever seen Nathan's priced at! Go down the road and shop at McKay's. You'll be glad you did. read more

Went shopping here to pick up a few things to make a dessert. Prices a bit high, but I haven't been to the other grocery store yet. Has most of what you might need, not a wide variety of brands. I use a specialty brand of laundry soap and dish washing soap, didn't notice whether or not they carried my brand. In the great paper versus plastic debate, Ray's uses strictly paper. read more

Ray's has the friendliest and most welcoming staff in town. They sell the best pre cooked all natural chicken with no added hormones. You can also find Certified Black Angus there. The coffee is the best and the doughnuts are the freshest. The produce is always fresh and plenty. If you have a craving for salt water taffy they have a boat display in the produce section that is loaded with it. There is a video section with a huge display of movies and they also do Western Union. There is so much more at this store so check it out, you will be glad you did! read more

Wow. I have never had worse fried chicken at any other Rays or any other supermarket. The cashier was nice but the hot food was so gross we couldn't eat half of it - and it was remarkably pricey too. We planned a romantic hotel meal and it was cardboard. Well I guess I learned my lesson. read more
