I don't know how I have never reviewed this place. It is an Everett Staple. Hole in the wall, classic burgers, shakes, fish and chips, and all the grease you would want. You don't come here for a healthy meal, that is for sure. I have had their fish and chips which are good but they are beer-battered and I prefer Panko. Just my personal liking. They are tasty, though. Shakes are good, burgers are good, and fry's are soggy but good. Onion rings are fantastic. It is all young people working here, High school and college students. Rays is a standard, middle of the road American burger joint. It's always good, it never blows you away, the portions are very fair and the prices are middling as well. Sometimes it's just what you need, but don't expect to be blown away. The staff is great, location, building, and how you order is a good experience, easy to grab and bring home. We finally got to try Ray's. It was ok - but unfortunately they got our order wrong - so I have to take off a star. Since this was our first time going we wanted to try burgers and the fish. We ordered the double double basket, a double bacon cheeseburger, two pieces of fish (fish only), and a small peanut butter shake for the hubby. When the order was ready - the burgers were correct - but we ended up with a 3 piece fish and chips and a butterscotch shake. So we had way too many fries and fish and the wrong flavor of shake. The burgers were ok. The bacon on it seemed like the microwave ready cook bacon - super thin. The fries were ok. But the fish is really good. I see why the fish is popular. We may give them one more try - especially for the fish. And hope the order if correct. read more

This review is only for the double shrimp basket. The shrimp tasted a bit "shrimpy or fishy". The breading seemed a little under cooked. I can't begin to explain how disappointed I am with how this place has deteriorated over a very short period of time. Keep in mind that we are born and raised Everett, and that even our parents frequented this business. We fully realize that good employees are extremely difficult to attract these days, but this goes much deeper then the employee at the window. The quality of the service, and food, has gotten to the point that we have decided to never return to Ray's. We refuse to spend another penny at a place where the ownership has obviously given up. My best suggestion is this. If you want to support a local business. Owned by a long time business owner. Go to Mikie's drive in 4532 Evergreen way. Top notch drive in food and service. 3.5 stars is about right for this spot. Burger was a C+ and Fries were a D. Fries were limp and greasy. Not sure why burger spots don't get this. They went to the trouble to hand cut fries and then only cooked them once. Cut, drain, fry, REST,fry for service. This makes sure the inside is done and the outside is hot AND Crispy. My sister is a wonderful person, but a cook she is not. Knowing that, on my way to visit her in Bellingham yesterday, I decided to cruise through Everett and see where I could garner some quick nutrition (in case what was offered by her later was unpalatable). So that is how I found Ray's. As it turned out, it was a good thing I did stop here to eat, but I digress. The young girls working in here were all wearing blue t-shirts that stated "Ray's since 1962". That's a long time for a restaurant to stay in business so that says something right there. After so many burgers during this past week, I opted for a grilled chicken filet sandwich ($5.49). And you know, this turned out to be one of the best grilled chicken filet sandwiches I've ever had. The huge filet was grilled to a nice golden brown and the soft bun was toasted perfectly. The sandwich was made complete with a little dab of mayo (I had them hold the lettuce). Really good! Rays is an Everett staple that I've loved since I was little. When I first got my license the first place I drove to on a warm Summer day was Rays to get a shake in their drive through. To say there is a soft spot in my heart for this mom & pop burger shack is an understatement. I've taken many transplants here and it's always been a positive experience. The shakes and variety of flavors are a highlight. I love the fried mushrooms with a side of thousand island dressing. It's a strange combo but it's grown on me. The burgers are classic, you don't need to overstate a burger because we all know what it should be. They don't mess with a good thing here. It's not cheap but honestly, if you are coming here you aren't here to do a dollar menu and eat a mass produce product. Expect to drop $15-20 for two people. read more

Great burgers for the money! Simple, old school styled drive in. Prices are not too shabby at all. We ordered the Ray's Burger and the Jr. Ray's deluxe. The patties were pretty small, but the sauce and extras made them good. Tasted like a good backyard barbecue burger. The wait time was a littttle on the long side, and service was halfway decent. The little inside dining area is rather disgusting but served it's purpose. All in all, it was a pretty average Joe experience but the food was solid. A 3 1/2 star would be more appropriate. It's worth going out of your way to eat at Ray's. Sometimes if I'm in Everett I'll take a different route home so I can. The sign says they have the best fish and chips anywhere and I won't argue with that. I can't think of any better that I've had. The fries are made from actual potatoes as opposed to reconstituted frozen mash. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the shakes. They taste like the kind that come out of a machine rather than hand made. They do have a lot of flavors. I ordered a chocolate malt and I couldn't taste the malt. I imagine that the burgers are good but I've never ordered a burger there. Why order a burger when the fish and chips are so good? I don't live or work in that neighborhood so I'm usually going out of my way to eat there. I only eat there when I want fish and chips. read more

Had the fish and chips and enjoyed the fish quite a bit. The "real strawberry" shake was also delicious. Fries are good but not great - they're freshly made but they're cut too large for doing the single-fry method, so you end up with limp fries that are a bit greasy. Saw me standing in the adjacent enclosed, but for some reason unconnected, dining area, could easily have motioned for me to come get my order. Nope. Just pushed it toward the window and called out the order number. It's not a big deal, and I ain't taking any stars away for it. But a place like this has a lot of potential for popularity. It seems a shame to have unenthusiastic workers. Food was average: big bun, little burger. Fries with skins on. Constant humming of some large machine made the older gentleman who was my enclosed area co-occupant remark, "sounds like we're riding the ferry." indeed it does.
