These guys are HORRIBLE! Do not even visit them - especially if you are a woman! I went there to try to buy a car for my 16-year-old son and we both left there with such a terrible feeling that we had to play happy music and try to "recover" from the stress of dealing with this guys. I have never been so excited by the idea of rushing home to write a 1-star review. The salesman was unfriendly - he didn't introduce himself, smile at us, or even shake my hand or ask for my name. Also as soon as I mentioned my boyfriend (because he has the same car we were looking at and had given me a few things to specifically check out) he asked if I would be coming back to buy later once my boyfriend was with me. :/ The salesman also hovered the whole time - he would not leave my son and I alone for a moment with the car. He stood constantly right by and gave us absolutely no privacy to freely discuss the car whatsoever without interjecting. Meanwhile, there was another man who would come out and stand near for a while and then go back. He was older and looked very angry. He didn't look at or speak with us. They both really made us feel uncomfortable. I couldn't get the salesman to produce the carfax while I was there - I asked for it several times and each time he would just say something like, "Yeah yeah. After you test drive it and sit down in the office I can show it to you." It didn't feel right. Other dealerships we went to had the carfax with the car or gave it to us right away and then left us alone to look over the report and the car. They also let us test drive the car on our own, but not this guy - he came with us. During the test drive I told the salesman that I was interested in the car but would like to have it checked out by one of the reputable shops in Berkeley with which I was familiar. My intention was that, even though I didn't feel good about these guys, if one of those shops gave a good report on the car then we would buy it (because it did seem like a great car). I asked what was involved in doing that and was told that there was a "radius" around the dealership within which they were willing to take the car for inspection, and he told me those shops may fall outside of it. I asked him what the radius was and he told me he'd have to check with his manager. When we got back, he approached the older angry looking man, who I guess was the manager, or Ray, about an inspection. That man told me, rather angrily, like he was annoyed by me and I was bothering him, that I could take it to this particular shop near them. Of course, I wanted to take it to an independant shop and so I asked him again what the radius was that the salesman had spoken of and his response was just to say that Berkeley was too far away. I told him that one of the shops was actually only 7 miles away, and then he immediately said that the radius (which neither had been willing to reveal to me until now) was 5 miles. How convenient. The whole thing felt extremely sketchy so I told the unfriendly, angry-seeming man that if he was unwilling to take the car an additional two miles to a shop I trusted then I didn't think I'd be comfortable purchasing it. At which point the two men simply walked away and went inside - without looking at us or saying anything!! My son and I were bewildered, and decided to go inside in case perhaps they were looking up the shop in Berkeley or something like that. The younger guy asked, "Are you here for the carfax?" And the older guy, who seemed even angrier now, started telling me how he can't be taking his cars all over the place to be inspected and that if I don't want the car then fine I don't have to take it. Just go." I was so stressed and taken aback! What I wish I had done was to let him know all the things above that the did which were unprofessional and unacceptable. Instead what I did was just say, "You guys are terrible." Then he replied, "You're terrible!" I took my son and we walked out and he followed us out yelling after us, "Have a nice day!" When I first moved to San Francisco from Southern California, over 8 years ago, I drove a fully loaded Camry which I had for many years. Rays cars was located by my apartment at the time and I would pass by every day. One evening In 2013, I randomly decided to walk over and browse their inventory. Ray and Lorenz came out right away. At the time, my credit was not the best and I co-owned my car with my dad. Within minutes, Ray got me approved for a loan (not sure how) and I traded my Camry in for a small 2003 Mercedes CLK 320. He stated, I was like his daughter... "most people that come through here I could care less about, but you, I take care of." Shortly after having my car, I had immediate problems with the convertible, oil leaks, etc. and within the first 30 days they were pretty responsive fixing minor problems. After the 30 day grace period, about $1900 came out of pocket for repairs. My loan was for 3 years. I paid my car off and definitely spent quite a bit of money for maintenance over the years. But all and all, the car served me well. Fast forward to 2018, I've since moved and happened to drive by Rays Cars. I had no intention of trading or buying another car, just stopped by to say hi to Ray and Lorenz. This time around, talking fast, before I knew it my credit was ran (and it's now excellent) and Ray quickly traded by Benz for a 2007 BMW 328i. I drove off the lot thinking I would have the same type of experience. Within less than a month the car had major oil leak's, broken starter, car rattling, overheating, electrical problems, it was such a lemon that even on a busy freeway it would completely stop. The car had to be serviced four times in less than three months. I was calling Rays Cars frantically and repeatedly to see what I could do and they were completely unresponsive. My safety was of no concern! They had zero interfaith. Their advice was "see a mechanic." Thousands of dollars later, in a nightmare car, on 3 separate days I took off work (which I never do) to pop over and hopefully talk to Ray in person (especially since I'm "his daughter") and each day I was told he's not in. The 4th time I drove to Rays Cars early in the morning unannounced, Ray was there. I walked in very humbly and in tears asking him if there was anything we could do... could I possibly trade this car out? Ray was extremely rude and unapologetic. He actually walked me out back to my car and slammed my car door in my face. Pretty much letting me know the car was my problem. The cars do not come with any carfax they are pretty much take at your own risk! I risked a lot, almost my life on several occasions, and they could care less. Lawsuit in motion. I own a Bmw Z 3 it's been my best car I've had but now I have the desire to upgrade to Z4 I was driving San Pablo Dam road and A black z4 was on sale I asked for the price! Unbelievable 2000$ less than the average price for this awesome sports car! I fell in love with it I immediately asked for all the details to see if I qualified for a good APR unfortunately my credit hasn't improved much so I'm still looking at a high apr but Ray him self did his best to accommodate me with a great payment plan . I had to put it on hold because I want to save up a good down payment do I can buy a car like this beauty quickly :) if it is still for sale in the next 3 months I'm coming back !!! So I come in ready to buy so I decided to test drive it again, this time no scent bomb , right of the bat the car start smelling like burnt oil, he told me that it was not leaking oil so I take a really good look at it n I can see it's leaking from the headgasket, so I let the car run for 10 minutes and after the 10 minutes running it starts throwing white smoke , so I kept reving it and kept throwing white smoke, he told me "" it was steam" so I check the radiator reservoir and it had oil residue n blue devil residue, Thank Good I was able to notice it before I bought a lemon headache. After reading the previous reviews; I thought about writing mine. But I truly feel it is necessary to write about my horrible experience with RAY's CARS. My family needed another vehicle but our savings wasn't enough to buy a new car so we made the deciscion along with my wife to buy a used car. We visited "RAY's" and my wife instantly fell in love with a BMW X5. We couldn't beleive such a nice car would be able at a used car dealer. So, trying to make my wife happy we went ahead and made the purchase for an astonishing price of 7,999 + taxes etc... We were so excited to have the X5 that we took it on a trip to Lake Tahoe and try out what we bought. The X5 ran absolutely fantastic. We were all smiling ear to ear including my kids. The trip was great. Unfortunately that was about the only trip that we were able to make without any problems. After that maiden voyage the X5 started to make engine noise. My wife called me one day at work and said the car was smoking and banging. I was like "Smoking AND banging?". I told her that she shouldn't drive it and find another way to pick up the kids from school. We took it back to "RAY's" and they told us to leave it and that they would take care of it. We were very happy with the dealer at that point because we found they responded very well to the situation. We later picked up the car and it lasted about 4-5 days and it just died. Bad transmission and motor. "RAY's" added additive so it can run just up until the time the warranty expired. BUYER BEWARE! Worst Used Car Dealer!!! DO NOT SHOP THERE!!! My son just bought a used car there and within 2 days, the check engine light came on. Took it back and kept getting the run around! The code was for a bad tire sensor. Did not honor their 1000 mile or 1 month warranty - could not get the mechanic there!!! I have never bought a used car from a used car lot ( bad reputation) . Im mechanically inclined and always bought from private parties or COPART cars and fix any minor problem myself. I spoted a specific car that I have been looking to buy for my daughter at Ray's . I Drove tested it and bought it. unfortunately, an unpredictable problem came up with the car computer (ECU) within days. Car was brought bak to lot and Ray and Laurence imidiately assured me the problem would be fixed. After leaving car with them and waiting for a week I started to feel very uneasy about this bussiness and potential cost of repairs ! Ray gave me 30 day 50/50 repair cost warranty on drive train wich was about to expire. But to my surprise, Ray and Laurence offered me a loaner car while my car was on the shop , called me with updates on repair progress and let me know I woul have a car before Thanksgiving. ( I had travel plans). What made me write this review is the fact a did not have to pay the warranty required 50% of the repair cost on the transmission fix !!! ( wich could be veeery expensive). These guys showed good Customer Service and Professionalism in solving a problem every customer fears when buying a used car. THANKS RAY & LAURENCE!! read more
