Also, I have gone for the last four years and have never had issues with mice or any other rodent or animals as stated in a previous post. I think it's so unfair how people can post things about a business they probably are not true. So unfair to the small businesses.

My friends and I were so excited for our stay at Wee Casa. We reserved the Sequoia house, unit #2,…read morewhich was a 4 bed accommodation so each of us would have our own space to sleep. Our visit had some hiccups--and the only reason this review went from 2 stars to 3 is that they returned 1/5 of the amount we spent on the reservation as a concession. When we walked in initially, the wow factor was high. The place was so cute and had high quality features like granite countertops, gas stove, fun wavy laminate floors, and big french doors out to the porch. We enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking cocktails and chatting for hours. We noticed a couple cleanliness issues when we first arrived, like a dirty floor and some leftover relics from the folks before us--a single wilted flower on a bedside table and dusty toys and a children's book under the bed. Our enthusiasm truly diminished around bed time when I pulled out the couch to find excessive mouse droppings all over the sheets, blankets, and pillows. Since it was pretty late when we discovered this, two of us elected to share a bed in the loft, hopefully away from any further rodent discoveries. The next morning we were told by the front desk that the mouse issue has never happened before, which I believe, but regardless it was clear to us that our unit had not been thoroughly inspected prior to our arrival. For the price, I would expect a more thorough cleaning of the entire space. We are pretty confident we won't return to Wee Casa.

Annie's Mountain Retreat caters to couples only, so it sounded perfect for my boyfriend and I. We had been so stressed lately and needed a quiet getaway. We stayed at the romantic cottage, which is the smallest one but obviously the most romantic. I can't even begin to explain how welcoming Annie is! There was a big snowstorm on our first day (thank God my boyfriend has a truck haha) and Annie called to make sure we were doing ok, as well as to let us know that the snow would be shoveled for us at our arrival. The place has a charming cabin feel without being overbearing. Even better, the romantic cottage exterior looks like a european cottage and has a cute banner saying "and they lived happily ever after." So romantic! The kitchen has all the appliances and utensils you can ever need, plus pantry items like flour and sugar. Check out their website for more details. Probably the best part of the place is the deck! Have you ever sat in a private hot tub at night next to the river with a glass of champagne? I have! :D Best. Trip. Ever!

You can pop down into Boulder for food or relax in the mountain air next to a flowing stream. It is almost a guarantee that if one spends a couple weeks at the cabins, they will look at Kayla and Maryanne as family rather than cabin renters. The Ranch is a wildlife refuge and it is uncommon to come away from a stay there without pictures of Moose and impossible to not have all the pictures one could possibly want of Humming Birds, Jays , songbirds, squirrels, chipmunks and other animals all shot as one relaxes on the cabin deck. Be sure to pick up a good wild flower guide, because you will find most examples from the book somewhere around the ranch. There are hiking trails on the ranch and some of the best Colorado 4-wheel drive and hiking trails can be found close by. Nederland, the small town just minutes away from the cabins, is worth several trips. There is no McDonalds or Col. Sanders, but many quaint restaurants featuring as wide a variety of tastes as most big cities sport. Several stores have a wide variety of souvenirs and one even sports one of the largest selection of unusual rocks of any shop in the mountain zone. Arapaho Ranch is not a place to drop in and expect a cabin for a couple weeks. Get your reservations in early. We have learned the hard way that the "early bird gets the worm" so to speak. We have had our reservations in for this year, not only for us, but our two grown children and all our grandchildren, as well as our 1946 Willys Jeep to hit every 4-wheel drive road in the area, including some a modern 4-wheeler is to wide to traverse.

CC was one of the few who still had vacancy. Now we know why. While I don't know what type of low-grade accommodations the high reviewers are accustomed to, as a very frequent traveler, I do know that this place does not deserve anything higher than 3 stars. Pros: very simple, homey old-timey cottages that hearken back to a 1940's grandma's house. Central location right outside one of RMNP's entrances. Nice touches with working fireplaces, 1 free bundle of firewood, variety of games and dvds to choose from, and fairly ample kitchenette offerings including a mini-stove, full sink and place settings. Restaurant choices across the street. Cons: this place is TIRED. Everything is run-down and dingey from the raggedy bedspreads to the broken kitchenette drawers, to the shower handle that fell off when we went to turn it on. Outside lawn chairs were moldy and crusty - uninviting. Curtains were dusty with gnats stuck to them. The children's mini-playground area - which could've otherwise been such a nice touch - was littered with dog poo and other debris from apparently months of neglect. If the rental charge were more appropriate for this low-level of accommodation, like $75-$100, I might give more stars. But $200? Uh no.

The first time was 20 years ago and we loved it back then which is why we decided to go back. In the past I'd have given it 4 or even 5 stars. However.... Pros are the great location close to so many amenities such as restaurants and stores, very quaint appearance, dogs allowed, wood burning fireplace, parking right outside your unit's door, easy self check-in, and how quiet it is even though it's off a fairly busy street. This place has tons of potential. Cons are a general lack of maintenance including a broken bar in the sleeper sofa that didn't support any weight and collapsed, unusable very disgusting cooking pans, dirty oven, and a general lack of cleanliness. For example under the chair cushions were years of dust and a variety of objects like socks, loose change, hair ties, etc. Tons of dirt under the sofa and bed, the fireplace glass screen was so dirty you couldn't see the fire so we cleaned it ourselves, all the dishes were filthy, lots of loose hair in the bathroom, etc. You get the idea. Housekeeping leaves a lot to be desired. We love rustic but these cottages cross the line into decrepit compared to other places we've stayed. They are in need of some refurbishment and replacement of furniture and household items.
