What a breath of fresh air! Caring, professional, long-term management and staff. Beautiful and spotless facility inside and out. Wonderful activities and special events. Amazing dining experience. My dad boasted to friends and family that he felt like he was at home. He loved to sit by the fireplace and read. Mom loved bingo and scrabble with friends. And, when each of my parents health began to fail, Aegis was quick to recommend extra care and eventually hospice, letting them live out their life and die peacefully.

People tend to think that assisted living is for people who are ill. She is 96 and the upkeep on her home was just getting to be too difficult. Aegis provided relief from that but more importantly has given her fun activities and new friends. The staff there is wonderful, friendly and can help if health issues do arise. They communicate consistently, provide a welcoming and pleasant environment, and have many daily activities and weekly outings. There are separate areas for memory care patients and assisted living, and the grounds and rooms are really lovely, I'm writing this because if you have an elderly loved one considering a move such as this, I wouldn't hesitate to have them move here. The socialization is a huge thing and I think her days are much happier than when she was living alone, even if she doesn't need much assistance at this time. My grandma moved…read morein on Tuesday to an apartment with no cable TV, despite having the TV ready to go the weekend before her move in. I've visited or called every day to see if they've gotten her cable setup and they appear to be dragging their feet. There is a huge lack of communication between management, maintenance, and front desk staff that delays tasks and doesn't communicate progress with residents or their families. The other day a front desk staff members started clipping her nails while answering my questions with vague answers and "I'll leave a note" for staff who seems to always leave before the end of the day. I can't seem to get straight answers from anyone and I rarely get calls or texts back when I'm promised any. Overall, I'm frustrated with the move in and hope to see some changes in this facility soon. I'll be looking at alternative options if things don't change soon. EDIT: Katy from CSL gave me a call and we had a great chat about some of the frustrations I had regarding the delayed cable installation and communication issues. She also was able to clarify some of my questions and ease my biggest concerns/worries. She is such a sweet and caring woman, and I'm glad we were able to talk. I am very hopeful that things will go more smoothly now that some of the initial move-in bumps have been handled.

Our experience has been nothing less than outstanding. The staff has been extraordinarily helpful with every little question or need we've had. They even brought us meals our first few days while we were trying to move in and unpack! Now that's above and beyond. We live in a beautifully refurbished condo with all new appliances, carpeting and paint overlooking the Pacific. The other residents have been welcoming and helpful with tips for local services and how to make the most of what Sea Bluffs offers. Now, everyone always asks about the food. I'm not going to lie and say it's gourmet cuisine, but it's good, healthy, plentiful and with plenty of choices. On the days I don't like what they're serving for dinner or lunch I just order from their "everyday menu" and get a burger, sandwich, or salad. Similarly, the activiites are plentiful. There are exercise classes, art classes, group discussions, singing groups and my personal favorite -- water aerobics! We hated leaving our home and Pasadena but it was time to prepare for the future, get away from potential fires, and be someplace cooler. I know we made a good choice by coming to Sea Bluffs. I can't imagine any other community that would check so many boxes.

After evaluating a few places in south Orange County, the family decided to move her into Aegis of Laguna Niguel. The property was very nice and clean, rooms a perfect size and the philosophy to focus on enrichment & stimulation via various activities aligned perfectly with what we were looking for in an assisted living home. To ease the transition from home the team invited my mom and step dad to numerous events around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every time mom entered the home she would smile as staff and residents would say "hi". Mom was set to move in early January but it became clear by mid-December we needed to move her in earlier, which Aegis quickly pivoted to helping make happen. One day after we had furnished her room in late December and one day before we moved in she fell at home and fractured her hip. Several days after her fall the family made the difficult decision to suspend all interventional treatment and begin end of life care. Mom was transported to Aegis of LN to her room and would spend the last days of her life there in hospice care. While the entire saga was very sad the family can't say enough of the ENTIRE (!!) team at Aegis of LN that helped us from beginning to end. They seamlessly pivoted from welcoming a new long term resident to one that would stay but a brief time. Their coordination with us, the hospital and hospice was simply amazing. Many thanks to Kurt and Marti for introducing us to the facility along with Ingrid, Andrew, Aileen, Jacqueline for their support and care...and everyone else that touched our lives in those last few days. We could see through these interactions that this is more than a job but a calling for all of you. Moving someone you love into memory care is hard. Even the best community cannot make it easy. What it can provide is more support, more expertise, more connection and more people helping you navigate something none of us has a perfect roadmap for. That is what we have found at The Seville. The hospitality, setting and attention to detail are second to none. The upstairs community room--with its deck and 180-degree view of the Pacific--is magical. I wish it were my family room. And yes, all of this really happens: * Fresh flowers, linens and special coffee cups on the tables * Weekly music, poker, crafts and beautifully curated holiday celebrations * Regional dinners that become experiences--Italy through VR, an opera singer and limoncello spritzes * Petting zoos brought to the community * Guys' nights organized by Hector, the master of gathering people--pizza and beer, bowling or trips to the driving range * On-site physical therapy, Hoag at Home services and quarterly wellness reviews * An on-site salon where my mom gets highlights, blowouts and precious girl time with Aubrey--a magical human who loves Mom like family * Photos and joyful snapshots that let us share in her days, even when we aren't there * Jennifer turning what could be a long day into one filled with activities, engagement and connection What matters most to me is that this life is not reserved for assisted living. Staffing and retention are challenges throughout senior living- from the front and back of the house to med-techs, caregivers, executive directors and nursing leaders. The Seville is still a young community, and it continues working to find the right mix of people. There have been transitions. I won't pretend otherwise. But with each one, we learn together, make adjustments and become better and stronger. Most importantly, the core medical and care team our family depends on has remained. Those relationships, that knowledge of my mom and that continuity matter enormously. The people here know her personality, routines and quirks. They laugh with her, care about her and welcome our family into the community. I never feel as though we handed Mom over at the front door. We don't always get everything right. Neither do they. Dementia doesn't give any of us that luxury. Needs change, people change and what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. What matters is having people willing to listen, adjust, problem-solve and keep working with you. One of my biggest lessons has been this: **The best Senior Living Community is not a place where something is done to a person or for a family. It is something we build together.** If you are looking for perfection, you won't find it in Senior Living, asssited living, dementia or memory care. But if you want people willing to become true partners in a life chapter--and a community committed to creating moments of beauty, belonging and joy - that is what our family has found at The Seville.
