Omar's has finally given me a delicious dessert that my nieces and nephews won't eat! To some this may sound scary but when you have 3 little ones tagging around, a bit of anything sweet is hard to come by. I have enjoyed Omar's every time I've been in and the Owner, I've been told, is a good friend of my trainer so all the food here is approved for me to eat. Went here the other day with a friend. The food is a little pricey considering we got a basic appetizer, an espresso shot and a dessert the bill was $32. The thing that upset me overall was the waitress was rude, she was acting like she had a stick up her ass and hated working at the restaurant. I didn't catch her name but she had dreads. Omar's Rawtopia, a.k.a. The Emperor's New Clothes. Friends took us to this restaurant during a recent visit to SLC, and I had one of the worst meals of my life. Vegeterian and vegan food can be absolutely wonderful if done right (and to be clear, this is vegan food). But it seems to me Omar's is fascinated with preparation process and ingredients above all, but pays little attention to TASTE. The food I had tasted pretty terrible, and I was not the only one in our group who felt this way. And to be clear, I know what good vegan and vegetarian food can taste like. Our meals confirmed the worst prejudices of anyone who would argue that eating vegan=huge compromise. Our dinner for four including tip cost more than $100. If the food was any good, that would not have been an issue, but with food that tasted this terrible, let's just say it was a total loss. The menu lists LOVE as an ingredient in every dish. The best Raw-Vegan Pumpkin Pie I've Ever Had! Amazing!

I am a fan of good vegetarian food, but I was NOT expecting walk away from a raw meal feeling satisfied and impressed. Omar's Rawtopia absolutely blew me away. This tiny little place in Sugarhouse was unassuming and eclectic. Omar and his mother will gladly share their story with anyone who walks in. She was suffering from illness and changed her diet to include an all-raw variety of vegetables and fruits. She got creative in their preparation and learned how to make these foods taste good. Her health improved, and she was inspired to open the restaurant with her son. I believe she also cooks at Mazza down the street. I got the hummus wrap and was very impressed with the vibrancy of the flavors and creativity of the preparation. The hummus was made from soaked raw almonds pureed with spices and garlic. You have to try this place if you are a foodie or a vegetarian. You will taste nothing like it anywhere else. read more

This teeny little hidden place is the teeny little hidden gem of Sugarhouse. The basil salad is so amazingly fresh and delicious. It may be my favorite salad of all time. They even have jars of the basil dressing to purchase for take home which is amazing. It is a little on the pricy side but that is to be expected. You should expect to pay more for unique and authentic real fresh food. read more

Great little restaurant with a super hippy/boho vibe, the food was great, especially the nut cheese dip that was served with awesome homemade crackers! The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because weirdly enough, even though there were 3 different entrees served at the table, all which should have been very different, they all tasted weirdly similar... like they use the same exact spice mixture in all of them. Every dish on the menu contains a very important ingredient: LOVE. While I love to joke about this, I'm a believer. Eating at Omar's is a spiritual experience. The food here is intensely flavorful (plenty of garlic and sea salt in the mix). You'll be pondering: how could this be so tasty yet so healthy? I love Omar's. It is fresh, delicious, and you don't feel like you have to lie down after you eat. Things do take a bit long, but have you ever tried to actually prepare raw food? It's tedious! Some people have balked at the prices (people that i drag to the restaurant that are not vegan or anywhere near), but I think it's pretty reasonable for the amount of work that goes into each dish. I can't say enough good things about Omar's Rawtopia. The food and service are always amazing. I took some family that came in from California last night. They have some young children, so finding something kids like is very difficult in a restaurant setting. Omar came out and personally interacted with the kids and brought several dishes out for them to try until he found something they would enjoy. One of the best raw food places I've been. The food tasted extremely fresh an delightful. The service courteous and caring. This restaurant is a absolute "must try" for everyone! They are about raw food, vegan, and a few items for people who aren't about the vegan raw food. The food is soooooo amazing. I'll try almost anything a least once. I'm not vegan, never was and never will be. Just not my thing. But Rawtopia had such great reviews and I wanted to eat something that wouldn't make me feel gross about myself after. The place is relatively small, at least as far as I could see. We were told to take a seat wherever we wanted. The kind-of-a-hippy server brought the menus, praising their juices and encouraging us to try. Fine. Ordered a large one, what the hell, we're going all healthy after all. I had a hard time picking out a meal. Settled on falafel salad. Everything on the menu was fairly pricey: $10-18 a dish. Long story short. The juice never arrived. The meal salad was huge, and not too bad, but not with what I would refer to as "falafel". But I get it, this is supposed to be raw. Had to ask for water refill. Server was pleasant, but spacey. After chewing the salad for 40 minutes, I was validated in my choice NOT to be vegan. To each their own. Went home... hungry after 30 minutes. I can definitely see the appeal for the people who enjoy raw/vegan cuisine. My opinion on such a diet is not affecting my review.
