I've never actually stepped foot on Rattlesnake Island, but have water skied around it since the mid '60's!
I understand that it was called Rattlesnake Island because many years ago, the island was inundated with rattlesnakes. Then, to control the rattlesnake population, wild pigs were bred on the island. The theory was that wild pigs would kill the rattlesnakes! I don't know if that's true or not.
There's a building site on the island. A year and a half ago, I talked to a young man who said that he was the building site foreman. He said that he brought work crews over to the island occasionally, when the owner had tasks for him to complete. I don't know the status of the home that they were building.
