I travel to the area for work and this is the best restaurant I've been to. I got the filet mignon with loaded mashed potatoes, corn, and the buffet garden bar. I thought the salad bar was absolutely delicious! I get a little weirded out at buffets, but I really enjoyed it. The filet mignon was very tender and tasty as well. I thought the service was less than desired but they seemed busy. Either way, I would absolutely return! read more

This place was ok Although a few of my group and a good meal the over all what is your experience was not that great. It took 15 minutes to get an order of drinks and that included one bottle of wine to beers and the rest pop. They come around and give you your salad plates but do not pick them up before your entrée coming so you are struggling to know where to put your plate play she's trying to give you a hot plate. I had the shrimp fettuccine Alfredo I did not care for it very much at all it was too sweet and cute although my mother had the chicken Marcella and said that it was very good. My aunt has the chicken asiago sandwich and said it was just OK. She asked for vegetables and she did not want french fries with her meal and half the plate was broccoli and they charged her a 1.00 to substitute My 2 uncles had shrimp and said they were very good. Nice salad bar. My uncle ordered a martini and they up charged him for vermouth?? What The Heck that's part of what's in a martini??? It was decent food and I am not saying it was horrible I just don't think it would be a place that I would go back to. It just didn't seem as authentic as they made it out to be. Just had a great BD lunch with my daughter and 2 Granddaughters. When we were finished eating, one of my granddaughters took a puff off of her vape pen, not realizing it's not allowed in restaurants. All of a sudden a man came flying out of the kitchen screaming, pointing his finger and shaking. He threatened to call the police. My granddaughter had already apologized but he just kept yelling at us. We were actually frightened by his aggressive demeanor! I should have called the police myself. When I paid my bill I was told, "Sorry, it's the owner's son". Told them I didn't care who it was. A simple conversation would have been sufficient! read more

Terrible Italian beef sandwiches. I had never been to Rastrelli's in my life. I have always wanted to. I ordered 2 Italian beef sandwiches for take-out. I went in right when they were closing for the afternoon. They were not thrilled about making anything. Seemed like they didn't even want to do my order. Sloppy. Terrible marinara sauce. Unedible. I was in town on business and stopped in for lunch. I guess this place is somewhat of a landmark in town so I thought I'd check it out. For starters the decor is very cliché. Tacky Italian themed murals on the walls, pergolas over the booths, fake ivy climbing wrot iron room dividers etc etc.. One could argue that's part of it's charm. That sort of thing doesn't matter to me as long as they can deliver on the food. I had one of the lunch specials which was a personal pizza with 3 toppings and salad bar. The salad bar is small and ordinary. Not unlike what you would find at a Pizza Hut. It's just kinda meh. The real disappointment however was the pizza itself. I'm not kidding when I say it was barely a step above a Jack's frozen pizza you get at the grocery store. Thin crust, very greasy, and completely lacking flavor. I'm writing this review 20 minutes after having eaten it and I can't even remember what was on it, it was that forgettable. I know I only tried one item on the menu and I'm sure there's a lot more to this place but I'm just not interested. Perhaps I'm being too cynical. If I could give zero stars I would. My family and I were in the Banquet hall after a funeral. They totally took advantage of my dad, who was paying, and allowed others to tell them there would be an open bar, ( no open bar in the negotiations ) , Put out a salad bar instead of people purchasing individual salads, which is what was agreed on, and the pitchers of pop were more expensive than pitchers of Beer!!! $15 for pop, $10 for Beer! I'm now living in San Diego and even here $15 for a pitcher of pop is outrageous! Plus that day they were a 2 for 1 sale on their pizza, 2 toppings, (we had some 1 topping, some 2.) Did we receive any kind of discount? Nope. Charged for each and every pizza. Rastrelli's has always been the gathering spot for our family. I have so many fond memories of being there, enjoying the food ( and the BREAD! ) with family and friends, but this left a horrible taste in my mouth and as much as I love that tacky, old place, I will not be returning there each time I return home to visit, and neither will the rest of my large family. Rastrelli's just because you are the only half way decent Italian restaurant in town, doesn't give you the right to take advantage of people. You never know when some uppity Californian may come in, open up another Italian restaurant with some real class, delicious food with flavor in the pasta sauce, and put you out of business. Fantastic flavors, home-made dishes, and a salad bar that has great choices including FRESH veggies, potato salad, pasta salad, pickled herring (not my thing, but others like it) and fabulous bread pudding. The meat sauce is phenomenal and easy to pick up a pint or quart to go. And a loaf of bread, your own noodles and you have an awesome take-out, yet home-made, low-cost dinner that your family will beg for! Appreciate the heart-healthy choices, too. Delicious with no lose of flavor to the lighter fare. Suggestions: better to go containers, and more efficient check-out. Friendly service and clean bathrooms round out a great experience. read more

What a joke! I've been eating here a couple times a month for the last few years. I always ask for a big bowl of bbq sauce my tenderloin. It's never been a problem before. This time, they sent the waitress back to tell me that would be four bucks. Instead, they gave me one tiny plastic cup of bbq sauce, and didn't bother to warm it up as I requested. Do yourself a favor. Eat at a restaurant that appreciates their customers. Vote with your dollars and eat at Applebee's, Jenny's, Village Inn, or Buffalo Wild Wings. Decent local Italian place. They have free pizzas during happy hour in the bar. Their calamari was crispy and done well. Although the salad bar was small, they have a very good variety of fresh veggies available. Their wine was a bit on the high side compared to the rest of the local places. Glad to see after all these years the pizza has kept with tradition. Always nice to go back home and it will be consistently tasty. As far as salad bars go, it's as good as any salad bar. I have been to Rastrelli's innumerable times growing up in Clinton and coming back from college; there's a reason why. It's a little slice of family owned Italian-Americana in small town Clinton that has been here for nigh on a century. There is a wide variety of food options that swing between American and Italian cuisine, plus a salad bar that is simple, but excellent. Service is usually excellent. Some of their menu highlights for me are their salad bar and pizza, which rivals most pizzeria in the area. Others may be interested in their ribs and burgers, which are solid options. I've never been disappointed by a Rastrelli's meal. No restaurant is perfect; there's always the possibility of a problematic meal. It happens. However, there has never been an incident to make me not want to go back. The food is delicious, service is great, and the atmosphere is downright charming. If you are in the Clinton area and looking for a genuine local restaurant to support, make it Rastrelli's. read more

I've been eating at Rastrellis a long time and the Prime Rib dinner I had last was the worst prime rib I've ever had, even though the Waitress gave us good service. The low quality meat was very tough even though they tried to conceal it by cooking it a very long time. Some parts could not be cut with the steak knife and other parts were not chewable. Also, $15 for a glass of wine, day old bread, no cheese on the cup of French onion soup, and up-charges for any substitutions to the canned corn . Quality is going down And mama meatball would be embarrassed what her grandchildren are serving now to their customers! Probably won't be back for a long time! read more

Having grown up in Clinton in the late 50s -70s, Rastrelli's was the epitome of dining out or ordering take out pizza. The atmosphere and meals were top notch. I realize industrial river towns have fallen on hard times, but I was so disappointed when I ate at Rastrelli's for lunch this past Thursday. Seated in a side room west of the main entrance, the lavender walls were chipped and appeared dirty. The green rug was faded and appeared soiled. My husband whom has heard about Rastrelli's for almost 40 years, ordered their famous pizza. He ate part of one piece, crust was delicious but the toppings were cold and burned. My hamburger was fine, nothing special. The saving grace was the coleslaw! It was tremendous! Maybe the restaurant has expanded too much. I do not like to write a negative review, especially for a place that holds so many memories. Ida and Pete would not recognize the quality of food, but would still love the coleslaw. read more

Amazing night at Rastrellis, with family coming in feom all over the US, the 20 of us enjoyed our evening. Just as I remembered from my childhood the pizza was amazing I had been looking forward to the sausage, mushroom, onion pizza for quite some time and was delighted and pleased with my meal. My son ordered the fried shrimp and he loved it. The waitress was amazing she was quick to make sure everyone had drinks. The bread which was fantastic. Everyone was happy with their meals we had salad bars, the ravioli mushroom dish, spaghetti, lasagna, just everyone was pleased with their dinner. My family and I came here for dinner one evening. To sum up the whole experience, we were underwhelmed. The atmosphere is...old. I can see how some would find it charming, but I found it to be somewhat tacky and outdated. The best part of the evening was the service. But beyond the food was not very good. They have a big menu ranging from all different kinds of pasta to burgers. If you are an Italian place, just be an Italian place. You don't need to try to be everything. I had the alfredo sauce with bowtie pasta. It was not very good at all. My dad got the "special" sauce, which we agreed was not very special. I think I have had better sauces out of a jar. We also stopped at their "famous" salad bar. Half of the containers were empty, it didn't look fresh, and none of the dressings were labeled so you had no idea what one to choose. Landmark restaurant in Clinton, IA for generations. I've probably eaten everything on the menu over the years and never had a bad meal. My favorite is the seafood pasta. If you have the opportunity to eat here do it - you'll experience what is quickly becoming a lost American tradition in the family owned restaurant. I worked at Rastrelli's waiting tables during high school and that is when the addiction to their food began. Now every time my husband (who I met working there) and I are back in Clinton, a meal at Rastrelli's is always a "must". From the fresh baked bread, top notch salad bar (including excellent mozzarella cheese that is hand shredded, homemade croutons and tortilla chips and bread pudding), and the best sausage pizza around. Their homemade meat sauce is wonderful and I haven't found another sauce that tastes like it. They have developed so many areas of the restaurant over the years since I have worked there an now have more formal/gourmet options as well as special events center. If you want quality homemade pastas, pizza, and sandwiches and a great salad bar, this is the place to go! This is truly the essence of a successful family restaurant. read more

Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Our daughter's wedding reception was held in the Tuscany Room this last weekend and it looked fantastic. Tom was so easy to work with from the planning stages to the end of the reception. His staff was great at taking care of our guests and we heard nothing but positive comments on the service and the quality of food. Nice setting. Our waitress was excellent. The olive oil was a little lower quality for dipping bread. Wine list was good although beer choices were limited. First time in Iowa and stopped here before watching the Lumberkings. We really enjoyed our meal. They accommodated a special request to make my 2-year olds favorite, steamed broccoli, which wasn't on the menu. And they asked before giving my son some Oreos (thoughtful of them to ask first). They had some good socials and the salad bar was pretty good. Servers were very friendly. Some of the normally prices menu entrees were a little expensive, but the portions were large. I enjoy the salad bar always and they have some good raviolis for Dinner. I didn't care for their pizza (something to do with the seasoning) but they have a fantastic brunch on Sunday until 1pm. We had our wedding reception last year in the Rastrelli's Tuscany Room and were so happy with everything about it! Jackie was very informative and responsive to all our questions. Rastrelli's and Sweetheart Bakery have a great relationship so we didn't have to worry about any logistics between them. The room was beautiful and the food was delicious! read more
