I went to Cartchella in Costa Mesa with friends because it was close to my home. It was organized by Rasta Taco. So I felt I should try them. I'm not expert with tacos but I was not happy with this. The beef and chicken were cooked too much and the quality was not good. Also I think there are frozen vegetables in the one with no meat. The sauces are not bad, maybe too much vinegar. But in the end the sauce did not help enough. I am sorry, I am glad Rasta Taco made this nice event next to my house and I wish them good luck. But this was not good. read more

I booked this event with Rasta Taco, 4 weeks before my event, I was told that the company had a name change, they are now called Kon Tiki Taco. I was assured that nothing else would change and they would guarantee the same great service and food. DON'T BELIEVE THEM FOR ONE MINUTE, THIS COMPANY TAKES YOUR MONEY AND DOES NOT DELIVERY THE FOOD OR SERVICES THEY CHARGE YOU FOR. This was for my wedding celebration, we had 60 people for a backyard party and all my guests were told that the food would be served at noon, they were to have 2 people serve for our 60 person party and the service was paid for a 2 hour time frame, which did not include set up or breakdown. Nothing was delivered as promised, they arrived at noon vs 11 am like promised, did not start serving food until 1:15 pm, and only served for 1 hour. The food was cold, and the condiments were not replenished ... it was impossible for one person to keep up with serving 60 people. In addition to the taco's, I also paid for 3 different appetizers, which they only brought 2 out of the three and they were in steam tables pans but hard and cold. I also paid for dessert, which were not served at all? He didn't have them with him.... guess he forgot !!!! What a ripe off! I was told by Daniel Frank, Catering/Events Manager that if I had any issues or questions on the day of my event please feel free to reach out to him. Well when I did, I got his voice mail and no one got back to me for 4 days. I requested credit for the food I paid for that was not delivered and also 25% off of my bill for services not rendered. Only to be told they would just give me a 25% credit and I would not be credited for anything further. I have never in my years had such a bad experience with any caterer. IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THIS COMPANY, Don't be upset when they take your money only to ruin your event! Very cool concept!!! My boyfriend's dad rented Rasta Taco for his wife's 60th birthday party. We had to feed about 50 people. Henry showed up with everything in 1 van. A giant taco cart and all the makings for burritos, quesedillas, taquitos and whatever else your heart could desire. He was making them custom for everyone. There was also this unbelievable mango salsa. He also came with guac, onions, veggies, a few different types of salsa, and chips. I think some of those were add-ons. Henry was the nicest guy, incredibly friendly, and wouldn't accept my multiple attempts to get him to take a tequila shot (read: professional). The food was incredible too. There was steak and chicken, and then the aforementioned veggies if you don't do meat. And his little tacos were made of corn tortilla, and the quesedillas from flour. They get nice and crispy on his flat grill and he puts on whatever you ask. Everything was seamless - he set everything up and took it all away at the end of the night. Only way you'd know Henry was ever there was the TONS of leftovers!! Since you paid for everything, he leaves it all there, so make sure you have loads of tupperware ready for meat and salsa. $1 tacos, but such slow slow service. It's one thing to have an event start at 5:30, but it's another to start prepping at that time. The tacos weren't ready until 45 minutes later and honestly, it wasn't worth the wait. With their meat being pre-packaged, I really thought things would be ready in 10. Chicken, Beef, or Veggies. I just had an alumni weekend celebration for my fraternity at UCSB. Not only was Rasta Taco punctual, friendly, and super helpful, but because of that the event went amazing. Matt, Ambrose, and Jay were so friendly, awesome to work with, and the food was phenomenal. As the event was going on, the 150-ish people that were there only had great things to say about Rasta Taco. A few direct quote from many people: "Those guys are such homies and awesome!" "They were really fast, there wasn't ever a fat line or anything..." When asked about the food, AND mid-bite: "Amazing" "That food was soo good" The carts looked professional and delicious and it was definitely a good change for us to have. I'm going to be honest, I haven't had any direct recommendation for Rasta Taco after I googled this catering service so I was a bit on edge (although the reviews kept me confident), but I'm really glad your business totally lived up to the great reviews. Rasta Taco is awesome! We had a wedding at a friend's house and didn't want food servers trampling through her home so we decided on a taco and margarita cart/maker/truck. From the beginning Jessica was amazing and made everything so easy. I didn't have to stress about anything with Rasta Taco, even though as a bride planning my own wedding I was stressing ABOUT EVERYTHING! All the guests (we had approximately 45) loved the tacos, chips, guacamole, etc. Everyone said it was a great party with great food! I am Mexican and I enjoyed the carne asada, chicken and carnitas tacos however the beans and guacamole, I would say, need a little bit of work. My family gave them a 7/10 for food and service. However the "white" side of the family gave them an 9/10 haha! I forgot our server's name (he made the tacos and worked the whole event by himself) but he was wonderful, helpful and a one man show that's for sure! RT was posted up at Wheel Food's Wednesday gathering at Jones Coffee in Pasadena last night. By the time we got there, they only had asada left (no complaints though), so we ordered four tacos. Meat was a little greasier than I prefer, I can't quite think of the proper english adjective, but in tagalog, think "parang may sebo" ... tortillas were warm and I got one that I guess got a little burnt but that added a nice flavor to it. Verde was spicier than regular verdes and the red was hot hot hot!!! But both yum & BF I and were satisfied. Minus a star because I would've loved to try their chicken, but that was sold out. And minus another star because two of our tacos had a giant spoonful of meat, and the other two were more like, well, mehhh portions. But for $1/taco, sure is cheaper than most of the other items at the meetup. Oh, and they were out of onions by the time we got there too. But cilantro & lime were still available. read more

I hired Rasta Taco for a baby shower luncheon after contacting Huntington Catering, their sister company. They misrepresented what I received and I could not reach them after the event to discuss the situation. The food was delivered in. a U Haul van, not a Rasta Taco van. The use of a U Haul van was embarrassing to me in front of my guests. Before the event, I had asked if guests were going to have to line up to get their food and I was told that guests would be served from carts. So, the guests lined up in front of one cart! The food was served late, over cooked and overly spicy, not in a good way. It was truly disappointing and frustrating that I couldn't contact them afterwards because their email account was disabled. read more

Wanted to be sure to share my positive experience with Rasta Taco. Last fall, I was planning my wedding weekend in Palm Springs, coordinating it all from LA. We were having an informal, backyard rehearsal dinner and wanted a taco bar. I contacted several taco caterers months prior, Rasta was the only one that kindly offered a 'tasting' by making sure I knew about upcoming, public events where they were at. I went to the Jones Coffee event in Pasadena to check them out. Afterwards, Rasta followed up with me to see how I liked it. I was impressed. My only hesitation leading up to the weekend was the negative reviews on Yelp. I must say, my experience with Rasta went flawlessly - and I would have noticed if it there were any goofs for this important event. They contacted me a few days before for final arrangements and to give me the server's info. The friendly server showed up exactly an hour before the party as promised, and set up quickly, and was ready to serve right on time. The tacos were a hit with our 50 guests. We have several vegetarian friends who loved the grilled veggie tacos, as well as the vegetarian black beans & rice (incidentally, Rasta was one of the few caterers who had appetizing veggie and seafood options, not just beans and lettuce, etc) There was more then enough food, tons of people went back for seconds and at the end Rasta offered to let us (the hosts) keep the leftovers if we were so inclined. For feeding 50 people it was a great price, and lots of fun, and their simple grill set up kept it classy (they were able to be tucked away to the side of our yard space) I suggest if you are like me and some of these reviews scare you, get in touch with Rasta yourself and I think you'll find they seem most professional and the vibe is right (esp. compared to other SoCal taco caterers) read more

St. Paddy's day is coming! As an Irish-American who grew up in LA county, I have noticed many similarities between Mexican and Irish culture/traditions. There is one notable difference though and that is the food! Irish food isn't the tastiest. Rasta Taco brings their own amazing twist to the Mexican food you love! We've used Rasta Taco for two home events - my husband's birthday party with children and an adult only school party. Jessica the coordinator is so friendly and accommodating to work with and makes the event planning stress free. The team who shows up at your house is EXCELLENT and extremely friendly, flexible, and very accommodating. They are so friendly to all the guest and put people at ease. My seven year old is particularly fond of Gavin who is such a cool guy and can easily talk with your youngest guest to your most discerning guest! Our menu included tacos with a choice of carne asada, chicken or a vegetarian options with rice and beans plus fresh guacamole and a really delicious salad. The food is fresh and tasty. We used Rasta Taco for our son's first birthday and we were beyond pleased with the food AND service! My favorite tacos are the Chicken and Veggie, and a delicious mango salsa! It was awesome to not have to worry about set-up or clean afterward, we just had to point him in the right direction and let him do his thing! We had Wes by the way, who was amazing! He was so friendly and a lot of our guests shared that with us. He set things up quickly and was able to keep up with our good size party. It was worth every penny! They brought no vegetables or rice and the beans were not veggie. So, all my veggie friends had nothing to eat. They had no excuse except that they have problems with the chef. Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied! The caterer showed up 50 minutes late and was at the event for 2 hours instead of the 3 hours promised. The quality of the food was not what I expected and the order was not correct. The entrees were wrong and appetizers ordered were not provided . Ordered food for 50 people, had approximately 40, and still ran out of food. Speaking of extras, Rasta's extra charges are ridiculous!!! $72.50 for guacamole, $67.50 for cheese, etc., not to mention hidden fees for delivery and a 15% insurance charge. After my initial contact with Rasta, I was not contacted again or given a quote for the extras. The cost was almost double what the company indicated. Would I use them again . . . Service was too slow. We placed a large party order (50 guests). They sent one server and the guy could not keep up with the demand despite us rotating groups of 5 at a time in 15 increments. Food was fine, but we found they double charged us as well which was not cool. Not only that but don't go in on quesadillas and other food items. They forgot we ordered them and pulled them out hours after service had stopped and everyone ate. I experienced Rasta Taco for the first time only a month ago at the Cartchella food festival. What I liked about the everything you need to make a taco in one place taco cart was the low fat, seasoned with care, assortment of meats and veggies. Even though I did not indulge in the chips, I loved everything else. The mango salso was a treat, as were all of the other special sauces offered. This is a great idea for a home party as well, as the cart can easily roll into a backyard gathering, or even a cul de sac whoop it up with the neighbors. I hope these guys continue with the Cartchella concept, as a casual gathering in the park with music, food and dancing is a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. read more

My review is a few years late, sorry! In 2015 my son was graduating elementary. Their school has a luncheon with games, pictures - lots of fun for the kids, staff & parents. Rasta Taco catered the school event and they were great! We had tacos, taquitos, mini burritos, quesadillas & fresh aquas! All was amazing. On time and great service. Rasta Taco catered the Reason Foundation 4/20 event in LA last week. The food was absolutely stunning. I didn't try the veggie tacos, but the carne asada and chicken were to die for. The refried beans? Spectacular. I'm not a rice guy, but even the rice was great. The salsas and sauces were beautiful. We had RastaTaco at our wedding on June 24, 2016. They are amazing and their food is SO good. From the very beginning they were organized, prompt, and accommodating for us. Whenever we had a question, they'd respond right away. We had several dietary restrictions (i.e. vegan, gluten-free, severe allergies) that they were more than willing to accommodate. Her prompt email responses on contracts and insurance needs made securing all the necessary paperwork to make the event a success. The servers Jason and Matt were on time, quick to set-up and prepared delicious food for the event. They both were friendly and outgoing while serving with a smile at all times. I had to continually call and email to get anything done. These guys are NOT dependable. They were supposed to have 2 taco carts at our party and they only showed up with one. The lines were miserable. My event-planner had to dish up tacos because Rasta Taco came under staffed. I paid for salsa to be set out on the tables and this was never done, so guests had chips without salsa. They also came with glass plates, when I ordered and paid for bamboo plates. This caused quite a problem for the clean-up crew. The company also left with 2 ice chests that belonged to our guests and I could never get them to return them. After continually emailing and calling to discuss the issues above, Justin told me they would give me a partial refund. This was months ago and I have not heard from them since. We catered Rasta Taco for our wedding reception. The food and presentation were good. However, after we had agreed upon a price, Rasta Taco added large additional costs to our bill 2 days prior to the wedding for things that were supposedly included in our bill to begin with. In addition to increasing our bill so much, the people at Rasta Taco are so unorganized that they have charged and credited me different amounts on my credit card for a total of 7 times since the wedding and they continue to do so 1 and a half months after the wedding. I have tried to solve these issues over email but they are so unorganized that they cannot figure things out. Do NOT give these guys your credit card info and be careful if you do decide to go with them for your catering. read more
