Firstly, the receptionist I spoke to was amazing, friendly, helpful and kind. She was easy to speak to and took my information down and booked us in. When we arrived this morning I was a bit early, they took us in right away and the doctor was right on time. I saw Dr. Lesniak he was attentive and answered all my questions. Very friendly. Exactly who you want to leave your pet with when they need a check up. I was happy with all the information they gave me. We will continue to come back here. Thankfully, my little guy is just fine. Helps too that they like going to the vet. This place has ample parking and is easy to get to.

Located in the heart of Downtown St. Albert next to Songkran Thai (Yum!) and across the street from the Cajun house. I was pleasantly surprised to find the prices here on point with what we had been paying at Morinville and significantly less than Tudor Glen Vet (think boutique vet in St. Albert). I could go one and on and write an essay about Dr. Metenchuk. Honestly, I'd follow her to the other end of Edmonton. She's caring, compassionate, understanding and has a heart of gold. She's saved my 16 year old kitty's life from a bowel obstruction and also took all the time in the world with us when we needed to put down a beloved 18 year old kitty this winter after he had a stroke. We also adopted two kittens that her family fostered because they were sooooo tiny and taken from their Mom too young. It's so much fun getting to see their reaction to her as they've grown and also showing her pictures of the trouble they get into. I know first hand those kittens were loved to bits and socialized well under the care of Dr. Metenchuk and her family. It may be an older building without all the bells and whistles and snack bar treats of other vets in town but I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Dr. Metenchuk is one in a million and I'm so very blessed to have her care and guidance over my fur babies.

Shopping for a vet is easy - a great veterinarian like Erin Ridge is a gift. They have been my monthly vet clinic for allergy shots, annual exams and more since I returned to Canada 1.5 yrs ago with a 13 yr old dog needing allergy shots. The eventual came, and they were completely reasonable with costs, reality, cremation and the remains. They are highly recommended!

From making me feel comfortable about all the treatment options (based on budget) and follow-up care, it is clear that everyone at Erin Ridge really care about your pet. Plus, Dr. Dodd also brings Chinese Veterinarian medicine to the table - SUPER interesting! The vet clinic is clean - washrooms and coffee are available if you have to wait...although to date I don't think I've had to sit once before being admitted to an exam room. Prices are far more competitive than my previous clinic. An exam fee is ~$80. Would strongly recommend to anyone looking for compassionate vet services that don't feel like you're being ripped off.

Full experience: My cat was treated here for vomiting and received a Cerenia injection. For the 24 hours after the injection he did great - he was finally eating normally and using the litter box. The following day I gave the tablet dosage this clinic instructed (1/2 tablet), and later that night he ate kibble and threw it back up. Because of that, I contacted my regular veterinarian who has treated him previously. Based on his weight (16 lbs), they confirmed the correct dose is a full 16 mg tablet, which is what has worked well for him in the past. When I gave him the full tablet, he stopped vomiting and was back on track eating again. Unfortunately, I only had half a tablet remaining, which I gave the next day. He didn't vomit but also wasn't interested in food yet. At that point I called this clinic simply asking for two additional tablets to get him through the next couple of days while he continued recovering. I explained clearly that if he wasn't better after those two days, I would proceed with further diagnostics. Instead of discussing options, I spent a long time on the phone with reception while they went back and forth to the veterinarian. The vet would not speak with me directly. Eventually I was told they would not provide even one additional tablet. This was especially frustrating because: * They had already required x-rays before allowing any treatment- the visit was $600 * The x-rays were clear and elicited no concern * The medication requested was the same medication already prescribed * My cat had already responded well to the proper dosage In other words, they were now cutting short the treatment they had already started unless I agreed to additional diagnostics like bloodwork and ultrasound that would push the cost well over $1,000. I even offered to sign consent forms and waivers accepting the risks of declining those diagnostics. That was refused. What makes this even harder to accept is that the diagnostics they were insisting on still would not definitively rule out certain issues like soft obstructions, especially considering the x-rays were already clear. So the final outcome was that my cat - who had already improved on the medication - was denied even one additional tablet to continue treatment unless I agreed to significantly more expensive testing. As a pet owner trying to help a sick animal, the experience felt rigid, dismissive, and deeply discouraging. I felt I was being looked down at for wanting to try treatment (again, which has worked in the past) before the next $600 for diagnostics that (again) cannot *definitively* rule out foreign body partial obstruction. Like a money-grab disguised as "policy". Pet owners deserve practical options and communication with the veterinarian making the decisions. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here and I'm deeply disappointed.

My experience with Westbrook Vet Clinic started out great - initially…read more Staff was really friendly and they were all excited about her, as they had never seen her breed before; a Black Russian Terrier. I then booked an appt. for her required second set of shots. (note: I spent quite awhile at that first visit, as what dog lover doesn't love to talk about their dog? LOL. I felt they were a bit 'heavy handed' about the insurance. But take it or leave it right? As it turned out - to get insurance for my dog; with a $250. deductible it would have cost me ONLY $500. plus per month. I just about fell on the floor. I was stunned that anyone could say that with a straight face. Seriously?!?! Obscenely ridiculous. I don't know anyone - with or without tons of money who would EVER consider paying such extortion-like prices.) However, the part that left me VERY UNIMPRESSED was that when I went in for my appt. (you know; pre-booked for that specific service?) The vet was friendly and examined her in a small exam room. He gave her the kennel cough nasal dosing and then proceeded to tell me that they 'were out' of vaccines. Sooooo NOT COOL!! But stuff happens and although I wasn't thrilled to have to return again; it was not the end of the world. Right? So, I return when the vaccines 'came in' and I was stunned to have a 'woman from the front counter' (what were her credentials? was she a vet tech? She didn't clarify anything) She just took her leash from me and promptly WALKED AWAY WITH MY DOG (not inviting me, the owner to follow or otherwise) she went into one of the exam rooms and passed thru the rear door (closing it behind her) I, of course followed, thinking 'what the heck are you doing lady?!?!' I open the rear door to their back room - where I said "Um, I want to be WITH my dog and SEE the vaccination" and there she was giving her the injection! Of course she may well have been a trained vet assistant but I'll never know! She was quite arrogant about the whole thing and acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing. I PAID for a physical exam and expected the VET to give her the injection. (I can go to G & E Pharmacy and obtain my own vaccinations for about $9 bucks. *** I have owned dogs forever and done this countless times in the past; when my pets were in great physical condition (you cannot do rabies yourself, but I had never taken any of my dogs out in the bush or forested areas so I never had rabies shots done) Needless to say, the 'in-stock' preparedness was a big FAIL but the 'woman-at-the-counter-walking-away-with-my-dog' (without explanation) was ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. I have dealt with vet techs and have no problem. But in this case who knows what her training was? The ONLY reason I go to a vet is for 'THE VET'!!!! Never again. - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANYONE - VERY POOR COMMUNICATION SKILLS They blew it, period.

I, however, ask question, google things to be informed, and ask around for other opinions (I don't think they appreciate a client like me). I take my dogs to Edmonton Holistic vet (fantastic!). I go to a naturopath, and so why shouldn't my dogs? I do like to have a regular vet to take my dogs to as well, for regular boosters, perhaps emergencies, as the holistic vet is 45 minutes away from me (without rush hour). My previous vet (parkland) is just fine with this, as long as I keep everyone posted of all visits so everyone is informed. But Parkland is still 30 minutes away. Sturgeon is only 10 minutes from my house, so I thought I would give them a try. With our new puppy I have had 2 issues already with them. Backstory-our puppy is from a place with high parvo outbreaks, so the vet there gives a 4 week booster to be safe. So I take my puppy to Sturgeon for her last booster, she's almost 14 wks at this point. I am told she will need another booster, as she is too young. I ask my holistic vet about this (coincidentally we had to be there for my 6 yr old dog (in my photo)), he says he would prefer not to give her extra boosters if not necessary. Let's take a blood sample in a month or two and check for the anti bodies; if she has them, she doesn't need a booster. Great! When I mention this to Sturgeon (when I went in for flea and tick stuff) the response I got was "Well i can guarantee she won't have them so you should just get the shot". Hmmm, kinda rude. Then we talk about rabies. My holistic vet doesn't like to give them before 6 months as it is a super harsh vaccine. FYI- 2 rescue outfits no longer do rabies shot at all due to the high amount of bad reactions in their rescue animals. Clearly a true fact. A vet tech at Sturgeon says, " I don't know where you heard that, we give rabies at 16 wks" I said I think I will wait anyways. Then she tries to scare me into the shot by telling me, if my dog bites someone and draws blood, and they demand a rabies shot, they have to kill the dog to perform the test. What is my 4 month old golden doodle doing that she is going to viciously attack someone in the next 2 months!!!!!! How dare they try to scare me into it like that!!! I have no respect for that place at all. If you don't expect to follow their guidelines by the letter, I don't recommend you bother going there.
