Been going here for over 20 years with our dogs. They used to be good. They've helped us a few times over the years in a big way. But, a few experiences have led us to leave this clinic.
A few things worth mentioning:
We used to see Dr. Marsden with our border collie. This was over a decade ago. We knew something was wrong with her, but her last visit there consisted of pets and hugs and not much else. He didn't investigate what was wrong. About a month later she couldn't walk suddenly and things went downhill from there. Maybe we could have helped her if he had done less hugging and more investigating. We stopped requesting Marsden after that and found another vet that we liked.
A new vet to the clinic a few years back (around May 2019 - and I can't remember her name because I've blocked it out apparently - she had big curly hair) gave us a lecture about knowing when it was time to put down our Miniature Pinscher. We had him there throughout the day as he was having issues and was in pain. They bandaged his leg for the IV so tight that he couldn't use it to walk. We took him home for the night. The next morning, after a long night of watching him suffer, we made the decision to let him go. This was my baby. He was stuck to me all day, ,ever day, and I loved him very much. I didn't want him to be in pain anymore, and he had been suffering and struggling for a long time. Later that day that vet called me and asked me why we had put him down because he was doing better. It was cruel for her to do that. I will never forget or forgive that. I wasn't able to go back into the clinic after that. The thought of it gave me anxiety and I would break out crying.
But my husband wanted to keep going there for our Schnauzer, so he attended all his appointments for the next few years and I missed out on them.
Recently our Schnauzer developed diabetes. We had hoped our vet was going to work with us - develop a plan - to help him out. We connected his numbers through the freestyle libre to the vet and never heard a thing. My husband had to go in or call in all the time to try to get some answers, and the answers were always answers that we had come up with ourselves. We appreciated the time on phone calls, but it wasn't enough. There should have been a plan. There should have been testing and adjusting insulin based on that testing. I had asked my husband on one vet visit to get someone to show him how to get blood so we could check his glucose with a glucometer. Apparently they couldn't get blood so that was that. They trusted the libre, so we did too.
Knowing what we know now, we should have been doing blood glucose curves on him and adjusting insulin more regularly in the beginning or investigating why things weren't working out, but this was not something she talked about. She thought his curve on the libre was fine, even though on average he was always high.
Now our Schnauzer is blind, is skin and bones, and is still unregulated after over 5 months of struggling.
We saw another vet, which we should have done a long time ago, and he referred us to a specialist. I didn't even know there were internists for dogs. He has developed an actual plan that we should have been on 5 long months ago.
To say I'm disappointed with the Holistic Vet is an understatement.
That said, we appreciate Kendra. And there have been a few other techs that we liked and appreciated throughout the years. read more
