So glad i came here! Zeus was in poor health when we found him. My regular vet ran a bunch of expensive tests and found nothing. I looked around, but no one seemed to want to help us, so I came here on the recommendation from a friend. Finally, some solutions, and at prices we can afford. The staff were excellent, and Dr. West is a fantastic listener, and he just put us at ease. The parking is terrible, but I'll just show up earlier to get a space. It's worth the trip. read more

I'm so happy this place exists. When I wound up with a cat I wasn't expecting who turned out to not be fixed. I wasn't prepared to take her to my regular pricer (but still awesome) vet. After calling around to a few places I settled on the spay clinic. They were super reasonably priced. And able to accommodate us within the week. Their drop off and pick up times are great for Those who work during the day. There was at least 6 people dropping their animals Off at the same time as me so they know what they're doing. Before we even got our Olde English Bulldog - Maple, I reviewed more than a dozen vet offices before deciding on the Spay Clinic. It's convenient location (within walking distance) was a HUGE bonus. Our first visit was for her 12 week shots, the vet assistant and Dr. West they took their time in letting her adjust before administering the shots, which relieved my nerves as well as Maple's. They were running behind and we had to wait about 30 mins past our scheduled appointment. Little did we know that a pet with suspected contagious infection, had arrived shortly before us, and the staff closed one side of the clinic and changed clothing before seeing us. - Totally cemented my decision to always return here for our pet care. Now that we have moved outside the city, we still bring Maple here. Where the staff greet her by name and she happily accepts the pets and treats from all of them. I brought my cat in with a reoccurring symptoms of a UTI. I was charged $90 for a 5 minute appointment to have my cat weighed. No tests were able to be done, yet my cats file shows that this is a reoccurring issue they still refused to give me the antibiotic that would clear up her infection. I've now had to pay not only there fees, but reopen a file with another clinic who will prescribe the medication needed to treat my cat. The young guy with all the tattoos and nose rings, was also very rude and ignorant while I calmly spoke my frustrations. The place specializes in spaying and neutering pets, so they've got TONS of experience. I had a good experience and a bad experience with The Spay Clinic. I called here to book an appointment and I was told to call back in 15 minutes. I asked why and they said because that was when they "did that." Hmm... So why did you pick up the phone in the first place? So I called back in 15 minutes aaaaand... Busy Signal. For the next HOUR. I was so annoyed that I was blocked off from making an appointment that I almost reconsidered and booked somewhere else. But truth be told, no one can match their prices so I sucked it up and finally got through. Because I needed to book an appointment so far in advance I had to put a deposit down. I didn't have a credit card number to give them so I ended up having to go down there in order to book the appointment. So that sucked. But I did get to see first hand how committed the staff are to good health and pets. The Spay Clinic is a diamond in the rough when it comes to finding affordable essential care for beloved pets. The Spay Clinic provides a low cost, high quality solution for having cats and dogs spayed and neutered, as well as several other routine procedures. We recently took our little mini-dachshund to The Spay Clinic for her spay. Setting up the appointment was easy and well organized. The clinic called with a reminder the day before to fast the puppy before her surgery which was great. On the morning of the surgery, we dropped our puppy off at 7am, which was a fairly quick process. She was checked over quickly to ensure she was in good health while we filled out her forms. We became aware of a few other procedures that could be done while she was under for the spay, including teeth scaling, tooth extractions, ID tattooing or microchipping. This is great, because you can take advantage of the fact that the dog is already under anesthetic and avoid additional costs for these procedures in the future. We chose to have her spayed, have her 4 baby canines extracted (a common problem with small dogs is that their adult teeth don't push out the baby teeth, leading to the need to extract the baby teeth), and a tattoo. When we returned to pick up the puppy at 4:30, she was happy to see us and although a bit dopey, she seemed in good spirits. The clinic personnel were very thorough with the discharge instructions which was greatly helpful. Before we left we were also informed of other services available at the clinic, also at low-cost. These included annual checkups/vaccinations, and teeth scaling. We will definitely return if possible. The Spay Clinic provides superb value for the services that they offer. In total we spent $300 for the spay, extractions, tattoo and pain meds. Our vet quoted the spay and meds alone at $650. After some research the choice became so simple. Yes it's cheaper to spay or neuter your pet. But then they charge you extras and insist you come back. They told me my cat needed a booster shot in 4 weeks but in order for that to happen the vet would have to "inspect" her to make sure she's healthy enough for the needle. That 2 min inspection costs $80! Plus $20 for the vaccination. How can they charge only $160 for her to get spayed and vaccinated, yet a mandatory 2 min physical inspection is $80. I took her somewhere else (a real vet) for her booster and paid less than a third of the price. My vet even told me those places screw You over with follow up appointments and unnecessary "examinations". That's how they makeup for cheap spay/neuter costs. My thoughts... yes, they offer "low price to spay and neuter" but then catch you on everything else. I paid over double the price my vet would have charged for a "ear tic" that she supposedly had. I have my doubts that it's even true. Bunch of lying crooks in my opinion Oh and one last thing I almost forgot, they gave me two needles with painkiller medication for the next two days. I saw 2 other cats check out while I was there, 1 also got the medication sent home. The 3rd cat did not. The vet technician that was supposed to check the cat out ended her shift while I was in line. The person replacing her forgot about the take home medication, she said there was none. As I was leaving I saw her panic and realize she messed up and never gave the owner the two doses of painkillers for their cat!! Horrible experience. read more

Both times they have been, professional, kind, and seem to really understand the funny relationship between people and their pets (My pup refused to go in so I had to carry the 70 lb gangly baby through the double doors and it wasn't graceful but it was funny). Great place to take your dog to have teeth cleaned. Went to my Regular vet to have a quote on having my Malti-Poo's teeth cleaned and have some extraction. Quoted $1400 to $2000. Took Curlee to The Spay Clinic they quoted $600 to $1400. Actual cost after Curlee had a cleaning and 5 extraction was $450. They were very friendly and helpful. I found out they are a full service Vet Clinic. I will be using them in the future to have Curlee medical needs met. The only draw back I had about going there was there location, but it wasn't as hard to get to as I thought it would be. read more

When I needed to neuter my cat, one of the friends recommended Spay clinic. I went to check it out, and quite frankly wasn't impressed with how this place looked. The clinic itself is located in a strip that houses businesses; it looks very small and rather worn down from the outside. When I walked in, the place was packed: people were dropping off their cats and dogs. After five minutes of waiting, I got front desk lady's attention, and she explained that if I chose to go ahead and spay my cat at their clinic, I would have to drop him off early in the morning and pick him up after 4 pm. She stressed how important it was that my cat didn't drink or eat anything 8 hours prior to his operation. She also clarified the prices, and in a very friendly manner assured me that my cat would be in good hands. Even though the place was busy, I was able to schedule an appointment for that very same week. The procedure cost $50. I must say that doctors did a very good job. My cat seemed a bit scared, had his belly shaven and smelled of medicine, but he wasn't as terrified as I thought he would be, he didn't have an adverse reaction to anaesthesia; and he was back to normal in no time. Since we didn't run into any problems or misunderstandings with the Spay clinic, I recommend it. read more

I was skeptical of the spay clinic thinking it was some dirty back alley low budget clinic. I couldn't have been more wrong! I was extremely satisfied with their service. The staff are knowledgeable, professional, and polite. They made me feel at ease when they said they do roughly 6000 spays a year. As soon as my cat got home, she was running, and playing like normal. It was obvious she was in very little discomfort. I was surprised at how small and clean the incision was. I bring our medium labradoodle, Angel and Charlie, our cotton de tutelar, here for all their services as the clinic is great. Overall the staff are knowledgeable and welcoming and Dr. West is truly the most patient. Unlike other vets that we have been to, he doesn't rush you or try to trivialize your concerns. He's very practical and not insistent on selling you drugs or vaccinations or pet food that you don't need which, I find is refreshing. It's annoying to chat with someone who's trying to sell you something and profit from you all the time. Although Charlie and Angel are somewhat skittish visiting the vet (whose isn't?), Dr. West takes the time for our pups to get comfortable with him and gain trust which, is reassuring. This place is what an experience with a vet should be. We have had 3 spays and two dental cleanings done and now use them as our main vet clinic. Recently our dog decided he was rock deficient and chowed down on a large quantity of rocks. The evidence of this was provided to us at night so off to the emergency vet clinic, who xrayed and suggested surgery as the best alternative but they couldn't do it right away and said to have our vet check the next day. Dr West saw him later and was concerned with the situation and gave us alternatives and we followed his advice- to make a long and convoluted story short our dog rewarded us with 5 rocks on our walks and is now healthy. Drs West and McMillan communicated with us throughout the process even on Sunday as well as liaising with the emergency clinic. As our dogs can't type it is up to me to shout our thanks. The level of concern for the patient and the owners is evident in our dealings, these vets and their support staff really care about animals and the outcome of their situations read more

Excellent experience and results- not to mention the price! I called around to over 5 vet clinics in town and was quoted between 260$ and 520$ just to get my kitten spayed and tattooed. The Spay Clinic did it all for 160$ . The Spay clinic was timely, friendly, costly and my kitten was back to her happy playful self by the day after. I took my cat to be neutered at the Spay Clinic. Signed a waver permitting necessary procedures should any complications arise on July 26, 2010. We followed all directions and carefully watched the site of incision for infection. July 31, 2010 I noticed scabs forming and inflammation. He wouldn't eat or drink, and couldn't go potty. We immediately took him to the Emergency Clinic, as the Spay Clinic was closed. We were given antibiotics and antibacterial cream and advised to follow up with our regular vet. We have insurance to cover the cost of prescriptions and grateful we chose to get coverage as the resulting infection has cost us several hundred dollars. The insurance company told us we needed to have records from every veterinary service provider that has examined our cat, and we were horrified by the response from the Spay Clinic. We were advised that they do NOT keep any sort of records including the waiver we signed. The only records they keep is a copy of the receipt given to us that is signed by the veterinarian. I was told that since we chose not to wait until Monday to give the Spay Clinic an opportunity to examine him free of charge, we nullified any liability on their part and that if the insurance company denies our claim not to bother going after them for compensation. I had not even suggested that would be a consideration or course of action. Today, August 9, 2010, our cat is still undergoing treatment for what our veterinarian has described as the absolute worst neuter-related infection she has ever seen. She advised the resulting infection was caused by lack of proper sanitary conditions when the neutering was performed. This is just my own experience. We were short cash when we took him to the Spay Clinic, but the cost of taking him that has far exceeded the cost of blood testing, procedure, and optional treatments through our regular vet. Further research has revealed that my experience is not that uncommon with the Spay and Neuter Clinic in Edmonton. I will be following up with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, as I have been advised that it is unlawful not to maintain records. read more

This is long winded and I apologize for that in advance. The Spay Clinic is the most reliable and cost efficient clinic in the city. I cannot begin to express how much I appreciate this clinic. I will never again bring my pets to another clinic. My dog Zeus started experiencing digestive issues in the beginning of December. He has a history of eating inedible things such as tennis balls that could do a lot of damage not to mention how costly the surgery is to remove them so when my dog suddenly started vomiting without cause I panicked. They had no available appointments but said to bring him in first thing the next morning and Dr. West used his short breaks between surgeries to examine him and rule out foreign bodies. Zeus started to recover but took a sudden turn for the worse Christmas morning forcing me to bring him to an emergency clinic in Edmonton. The doctor there, although very kind to talk to gave me what I now consider the worst advice and prognosis imaginable. She told me they couldn't find a reason for Zeus' illness and I had a few days to decide whether I wanted to euthanize my dog or spend a minimum of $22,000.00 for exploratory surgery that may or may not provide an answer. Zeus is not only a wonderful pet but also I'm emotional support animal to help with severe anxiety. As you might imagine, this news did not help my anxiety. Zeus and I just had our second visit to the spay clinic and we are so happy with dr. West, his team, their attention to detail, their level of care and his willingness to work within a budget (being a full time university student who just spent a butt load of money at the emergency vet this is very important). He believes Zeus has developed food allergies and we are working on a cost effective hypoallergenic diet that will give my dog everything he needs to make a full recovery! AMAZING VET CLINIC!! After discovering my cat had a loose tooth and bad breath I started looking for a vet. Most places I called wanted $70 to even see him and said the starting price for a teeth cleaning and single extraction was $600. One place even quoted me over $2000!! When I called The Spay Clinic they told me they would not charge for a consultation and that they could see him the next day. During the exam I was informed that it is quite normal for cats to loose their teeth and the bad breath was because of food build up from him not chewing on that side. She said the tooth would likely come out on its own and that overall his mouth looks to be in good shape, just I may want to consider a cleaning in the future. I have been to the spay clinic twice, taking both of my two young cats there. The first time i went in, i took my male cat. everything seemed ok when i got there, i filled out the required form, and they take him to the back to do a quick exam. they come back out to tell me that he has a heavy infestation of ear mites, which should be treated with 2 doses, at 15 bucks each, and that it is highly contagious between animals so i will have to get 2 doses for my other cat at home. not knowing any better, i agree. after taking my second cat in past weekend, i am rather quite unhappy with how they do business. when they took my female cat to the back for her exam the girl at the front desk tries to tell me that she has ear mites. when i tell her she has already been treated for it, she asks me when, as if to question me that i am lying about it. after telling her when my cat was given the treatment doses, she tells me that they will look deeper later, and that maybe its just dirt!! so they were going to charge me for an unneccisary treatment for dirt?!?! After a long day of waiting to get my cat back, when we get there that is when you pay for the procedure. they go ahead to tell me that she had a little bit of extra fat around the incision area, which i knew she had. then the girl tells me a higher price than it should be. when i questioned her on it, she tells me it is because my cat is overweight and they had more to go through. my cat is NOT overweight, she is a very small eater, and when she stands up you can see how tiny she is, but i also know that she gets enough food. so because they could not charge me for the ear mites in the morning, they had to come up with some sort of other bogus excuse to still be able to charge me a little bit extra that they know i would not be able to argue against. i am not impressed with this, and wanted to let others know the little bit extra they go to to be a "successful" business. it is not needed, as it is a very busy place. i am just glad that that was my last cat i had to take there, as i do not appreciate being treated dumb and like i have no clue what is going on for a little extra money on their part. read more

I had a terrible experience when I brought in my female dog for a spay. I got her there on time and she was taken in no problem. It was when I went to pick her up that the problems started, she was supposed to be ready to go by 5 pm (she was in at 7:30 am). I had to sit and wait as there were "complications" and she apparently would not stop bleeding and had to be put under again to go in an fix a bleed! When I paid the bill, they told me if she continued to have problems I should go to the Emergency vet clinic, which I had to do in the wee hours of the morning an extra cost of $264!! Seriously, the reviews I read are frustrating. I get annoyed when we as customers are treated with disrespect. I have taken all my pets there for over 25 years and have never been made to run down prior to booking an appointment to put a deposit down. Are you kidding me, how disrespectful. I have always brought my pet in and paid for the surgery when dropping them off. Why should I drop money off to you before you even book my appointment? I don't want to give my credit card number over the phone, so I was told it is policy to run all the way down there to leave a deposit before they would book for me, and it was my choice if I didn't want t to I could go somewhere else. Why should a paying customer suck it up and be treated with disrespect just to get a cheaper rate. Very poor business to take money from someone before service especially when I don't even know how long before I can get in. Really you hold my money, how do I know I can trust what's going on there. Why do you need my money that far in advance. Amazing how these arrogant practices survive because we feel as customers that we have to suck it up for financial reasons. on tuesday june 2 i took my 6 month old dog to get neutered and back dewclaws removed. everything went fine but when i got him home i guess they put the wrong size cone on him as you could see his snout sticking out past the cone. i thought " well that is strange " by the morning he had pulled off the dressing and part of the tape they had put over the stitch on the dewclaw. I called them from work to let them know this had happened. they said bring him in . well I couldn't do it right away because like the rest of the world i had to work.so i went to pet smart and bought more wrap for the dew claws. by morning he had taken that off and the tape and started to pull on the stitches. i took him to work with me on thursday june 5 and went over to the spay clinic after work. they put a larger cone on and checked the stitches. they said that he could very likely get an infection from licking it. and pulling on the stitch. so needs antibiotics... as I sat there i got more upset as i just paid out $ 319.00 to have this done and now more! I said " why should i pay for something that wasn't my fault. the cone was to small I never put it on him you did. this should be free. they said well we are not charging you for the cone. I should bloody well HOPE NOT i have already paid for it in the service the 1 st time. I asked why i have to pay for the antibiotics when i would be sitting here if it was done right the 1st time.She said well do get them then. OH so risk my dog getting an infection because you messed up.... it was my choice she said. well like anyone who loves there bestfriend i paid the money and took my dog home. I am not impressed with the way they handled this . i paid full cost for the antibiotics . even if they would have given them to me at there cost i would have had better things to say but as it stands right now.
