I think Randy is your typical barber shop, has talent and prolly can cut decent hair, but my experience today with this one SPECIFIC person was not up to par. I've been cutting hair as a hobby since I was in high school, still keep up with the new techniques and always been cutting for friends and family, I'm not the perfect barber but there are things I'm keen on. 1. Every client is different and each cut is different, the barber I had today she was not on the same page as me, I had showed her a reference, explained what I wanted, but I think she had a different vision and stuck with it rather than double checking with me to make sure it was what I wanted. Even when talking about getting an undercut, I explained I wanted to shorten the sides and blend it together, I focused on keeping length 2. I had longer hair but she never used clips to hold it in place, and when cutting took big chunks rather than slowly creating the hair cut, I mentioned I wanted to keep my hair on the longer side, but large cuts were made. When it kept getting shorter and shorter I had asked for her to stop taking more off the top, where she said she was texturizing which takes off bulk, true, but even with texturizing scissors you are still taking more off Overall I think there are good cuts but just needs improvements in some area. read more

I don't know about the haircuts, but I do know about the hours, which are misleading. On the door it says, "Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m." That's not true at all. The hours SHOULD be listed as, "9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m." because I discovered that they won't cut your hair after 5:30 p.m., so if you show up at 5:31 p.m., you won't be getting a haircut. On the day I visited, I arrived at 5:40 p.m. -- plenty of time to cut my hair -- but was turned away. Three minutes later (5:43 p.m.) a customer left. Seventeen minutes is enough time to cut my hair. I have been here many times as there are not many options for men's haircuts in Gainesville. The Staff there low quality and many seem strung out. I have even had one of the employees comments to me about how her coworker is probably in the bathroom doing cocaine. My most recent experience, yes I went back, the girl cutting my hair was about to put scissors into my hair that were dirty from a previous haircut filled with somebody else's hair on them. The barber here was probably the worst barber I've ever had. I asked for a mid fade and he raised the fade so high that it resembles a rooster (same look he has, probably the only cut he knows). He clearly didn't know what he was doing and was watching the TV during the cut and not at all attentive. No attention to detail, just cutting whatever he felt like. Awful customer service! Waited for 45 mins & no one said a word to me! So walked out. Very surprised bc randy was right there. Also, Shirley and bob are horrible barbers! Stay away from them. Where do I begin. I asked the lady cutting my hair (also showing a picture) to cut my hair short on the sides and leave it long on the top (like a fade). However instead of asking for clarification the person who cut my hair decided to just cut almost everything off and give me what looks like an army buzz cut. In the times I have been there, I have not received a haircut I like. They do not have the required skills or talent to properly deal with a single wave in someones hair. A lot there are issues of communication when getting a haircut. The store is either too loud or the stylist won't ask a follow up question to make sure they cut your hair they way you want it. Poor customer service and mediocre haircuts at a reasonable price. This is a case of you get what you pay for. They tend to be slightly cheaper than other places and their services are less good than other barbers in Gainesville. There seems to always be a wait, not because they are in high demand, but rather because the barbers are slow and try to waste time so they have to cut fewer customers. I've been three times now and it's been three less-than-great experiences. Visit #1: a Saturday, arrived @ 1:30pm. Waited over an hour. Female barber did 4/10 quality job, very slow. Not very impressed. Visit #2: a Thursday, arrived @ 2:20pm. Waited for about 50 minutes. Male barber, did 6/10 quality job. Decent job, not the best cut, but not too bad, very slow. Visit #3: a Tuesday, arrived @ 12:07pm. Called ahead and asked to make an appointment, was told that "the wait's not too bad right now, just come down", so I just headed right over (drive took me about 16 minutes). Waited for about 40 minutes, then was told that it would take about another 30-45 minutes; so I walked out. Summary: If you have lots of time, aren't particular about how your hair is cut, and want to pay slightly less, than Randy's is your go to. If you don't want to spend 2+ hours, have standards for your haircut, and are ok paying $12.00+ for your haircut, then you should choose another place. read more

I was impressed! I had read several reviews searching for a Barber in Gainesville and they were mixed. Many good, some bad. I went in with no appointment and simply stood by the front desk. Randy (it turned out) greeted me and asked if I had an appt - he said no problem and I was in the chair with in about 25 minutes. Randy himself did mine and I am a pretty picky after being with my barber for 19 years. He did a fantastic job, cut it just like I asked, and it was just $12. I first started going to Randy's after a friend recommended it to me about a year ago. The first time I went it was pretty busy and I waited more and a half hour before anyone said anything to me, but I figured it must be a good thing that they were so popular. In light of that, I recommend making an appointment especially if you want to go on the weekends or lunch hour. I highly recommend Isabella (I think), she's cut my hair several times and is just great. And if you're a student, just show your ID for a discount!
