Sad! Sad! SAD!
I hate writing bad reviews. It makes me sad. What saddens me even more is when I pay top dollar for a sad, pathetic sweet treat!
Random Treats truck is sad excuse for a gourmet food truck.
I ran into this sad truck at the First Friday food truck event in Venice beach.
This truck features exactly what it says it does, random treats. They had gourmet rice krispy treats, sweet potato fires, a deep fried PB&J sandwich, some savory sandwich (grilled cheese I think), a few boxes of Nerds and some beverages. Very odd and random menu indeed.
However, their large menu of gourmet rice krispies caught my eye. They had about ten of them on their menu but when I went to order, they only had four flavors available. That pissed me off. How can you show up to such a big event (over 40 food trucks and hundreds of people) and not have your full menu available. They hadn't even been open half an hour so it's not like they were sold out. They were just under stocked.
They didn't have any of the flavors I wanted but my wife and I didn't want to leave empty handed. In the end we bought two of their gourmet krispies, one red velvet and one strawberry shortcake. At $5 bucks a piece I was praying that they would be the best rice krispy treats I'd ever eat.
Nope.
Both krispies were stale. They tasted like they were a few days old. The toppings on the strawberry shortcake weren't bad. The strawberry compote and pieces of strawberry helped hide the fact that the krispy itself was stale and tasteless.
The red velvet krispy was horrendous. Stale krispy, sour tasting cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake that tasted like food coloring. AWFUL!
The women on the truck were nice but it took almost ten minutes to get our treats....and we were their only customers. What in the world took so long? I know they weren't making these treats to order. SAD.
I'm flabbergasted. How this truck is even in business blows my mind. read more
