My husband and I shopped at the Randolph Air Force PX this past Saturday ( 25 Nov 23) and the cashier neglected to remove the security device on one of our items. Next thing we know if that a guy with no ID approached us at the Food Court to inquired about the beep in our bags. It was a very unpleasant situation. Although we acknowledge that he was doing his job, we believe that he should have identify himself before approaching us the way he did. My husband and I are both veterans. We proudly served in the Army for over 50 years and believe that we deserve a better treatment. I'm wondering if the cashier who neglected to remove the device was reprimanded and embarrassed the same way we were. read more

Frustrated! Trying to get my and my Wife's ID card renewed. ID section doesn't answer the phone. Called several times with no luck , left messages for a call back, still no response. Attempted to make an appointment using Rapid, Rapid not available!! What's next? How do I contact this office? TIA read more

We were missing our Base Exchange shopping so off we went to San Antonio, since you can't find a BX in Houston. Mr. G was based here YEARS ago, so it was nice to get a tour of his old stomping grounds. Wow! What a beautiful base. You'll find lots of Spanish architecture like the red-tiled roofs, creamy arches with tiled patios and lots of trees. A homey old town feel. It reminded me of Sigonella in Sicily, Hickam in Oahu and the navy base in Rota, Spain. This base offers a commissary for your grocery shopping pleasure and a base exchange. You'll find everything you need but the BX at Nellis is much bigger. So in case you want to compare? Overall, we love it and will ALWAYS give our bases a 5-star rating! read more

I love going to Randolph because it is less busy than Fort Sam or Lackland. I really enjoy the new BX they build a few years ago. The staff is very helpful. We have been coming here for 20 years and the base has really improved since then. I like the fact that we can come here and get all of our shopping done including grocery shopping plus we can work out. read more

I like this base. It's close to home. Easy access - right off FM 78. Small enough to feel cozy. But large enough to house everything I need - commissary, exchange, fitness center, clinic, track, pool, chapel, library, etc. You'll find me here almost every day, including weekends. This review is for a one-night stay in a DVQ in early May. guest room Exceptional suite, for the amazing rate of $69. We had a two-room suite in Building 110, it says Bachelor Officer's Quarters A over the arched doorway. We were on the second floor in and suite at the end of one of those long exterior porches. Most of the suites in our building seemed to be named for USAF aircraft. As the building title implies, these are converted BOQs. The front room is a sitting room with television, couches and - get this - a outsize fireplace! Now, the fireplace doesn't work, but imagine a time when big fireplaces were necessary in San Antonio. The bedroom and especially the bathroom were very nice. The bathrooms have been recently renovated and are as nice as any upscale hotel. There's a refrigerator and coffee maker, plus snacks and booze for sale. There seemed to be adequate street parking, just a few steps from the DVQs. In addition, the setting of the DVQs and deep porches are simply stunning. If morning coffee is your thing, arrange your schedule with enough time to sit in your rocking chair on the shady veranda overlooking the courtyard. food and beverage If there's a breakfast, we missed it. For lunch or dinner, there are all the usual food court options nearby in the PX. There seems to be a club in Building 500, which might be an option - depending upon their membership rules. staff Front desk staff were really great. You check in Building 112, which is right next door to the DVQ we occupied. Housekeeping staff were also very warm, welcoming and gracious. common spaces We didn't see or ask about use of a pool or laundry. With the number of guests, am sure the front desk could provide all sorts of options. location The air base is to the north and east of San Antonio. It's pretty much highway all the way to the base. The Security Police at the access point can provide directions to the lodging office. The neighborhoods surrounding the air base are not really tourist destinations, but the area seems safe enough. For DOD card holders, the installation appears to have every amenity you'd expect. In addition, the base is incredibly well maintained and a real showplace for the air force. read more

This base is one of the better bases that I've been to. It's nice and quiet and has all the amenities you'd look for in a base. The circles in the residential part of base can be confusing to navigate. If you prefer to avoid complication and becoming disoriented, then stick to the outer roads. I would recommend going to the gym on base if you've got a military ID. I think it is called Rambler Fitness Center. read more

I come here for the haircuts, the BX, and the Class six... sometimes the photo lab. Be sure to stop at the gate if you don't know where you're going and talk to the SF Airman for at least 5 minutes. read more

Randolph is a great base. It has a very unique layout which makes navigating the base a little difficult when you're new but it is a very base. The gym is great and the other accommodations are better than most bases. I'm happy to be here and in no rush to leave. TLF is great. read more

Ask any military brat where they grew up and you will always get a confusing answer. But for me, this is where I grew up. No, I never lived on this base, but I was here often enough to call it home. My family visits often and we always stay in the lodging-- amazing rooms, just make sure to ALWAYS turn on the dehumidifier or you will wake up with a cough. The bar is stocked with perfectly priced cokes and snacks and the office has the most amazing (free!) hot chocolate ever. There is nothing like going to bed to the sound of taps and seeing a military uniform every where you look, to me it is as comforting as anything I can think of. Tips: remember to always drive with your seat belt on (regardless of how far you are driving), don't drive while talking on your cell phone, and go the exact speed limit. I was glad that my mom reminded me of these rules beforehand, as they can easily slip your mind. read more

This base is great the only thing I don't like how everything is set up like a traffic circle. Getting lost will be easy if you have like 4 left turns in one section. It is best to stop by the AF Inn and pick up a base map to better help you with directions. After a few times you get use to the setup of the base and you will know which left turn to take. Everything is a little hidden but it's there. read more

It's a nice base. They have an awesome elementary school with a school rating of 9 on greatschools.org which isn't seen too often here. You do need to drive speed limit especially in school and parking lot zones. They do random car searches before the gate so be prepared if you are one of the lucky ones. The way the base is mapped out , you could never get lost. I've stayed at Randolph Inn when I first got here which was great and affordable. They have mini suites with kitchenettes to suites with a living area. The clinic pharmacy is pretty good with time and it's never to busy at the clinic at least when I go. And last but not least the gym! It's the best! read more

I love this base. It feels homey to me for some reason, compared to other military bases. Maybe it's because I come here so much? I don't know. Anyway, someone mistakenly put the category here as fast food? I guess they have fast food at the Exchange, but this base has a lot more than that! read more
