I called on May 29th and left a message with the receptionist to get a call back about the bill, but never received a call back. I called back again on June 6th and explained my frustration on getting such a bill and the bill was adjusted down to $700. I am not returning back still as this is the highest I've paid for my taxes. The first version of my return was missing a deduction that we discussed and I said that I would be taking (SEP IRA contribution). Once I spoke to them, they did fix it, but that makes me wonder what else was missed on my return.

They are not the least expensive accounting firm in the area, but they more than earn back their fee in the time, money and stress that they save you. Fran is very meticulous and attentive to detail while still being very warm and easy to work with, and their entire process is laid out for you in an electronic organizer that they provide, so that you know if you're missing any documents that they need to prepare your return. Additionally, if you have a corporation, I highly recommend having Coet2 prepare your quarterly payroll and year-end corporate taxes. These seem like a small thing, but accounting is my most hated business task and payroll taxes used to cause me a lot of problems. Coet2's staffer Barb Arnold now handles everything for me and has completely streamlined my payroll process at a very reasonable cost. In addition, no one at Coet2 ever pushes the additional services that they offer, but they are there if you need them (QuickBooks classes, financial planning, etc.). Highly recommended, and I have dealt with 4 accountants over the life of my business, so I have a good basis to offer a recommendation.

My tax consultant in Lafayette stopped receiving my calls when I was trying to get this straightened out, so I went to the Louisville location (which is where I filed my taxes in 2012). The tax consultant there was initially helpful, but when it became apparent that a mistake had been made she also stopped returning my phone calls and e-mails. They don't want to honor their guarantee I suppose. When I first came to Colorado I was traveling and working in other states, so I was told that $100 dollars was charged for each state I worked in. After I stopped traveling and just worked from home the fee for my taxes continued to go up each year. I think in hindsight I could have done a better job doing my own taxes.

They very strongly want you to buy…read moretheir services for what they call a strategic roadmap and wanted me to pay them $9500 just for that. When I asked for an example of strategic roadmap or for a list of what was included in it they would not give me a direct answer. They pontificated about how it depends on clients situation and said it's a heady and complicated subject. They were very prompt in sending me requests for payment after every interaction I had with them but didn't answer a single one of my questions asking what was included in their services. My experience aligns with the poor reviews here. They like to say "our teams knowledge and experience makes what we charge worth it". But I'm sorry saying that you're knowledgeable does not make it so. When they can't even show a basic understanding of what a good financial plan should include by at a minimum putting into a list what it includes for potential clients that does not instill confidence.

We had hoped for a refund, but when Mary gave us an estimate of what our tax return would be - ouch - we had to pay instead... A LOT! Bummer. But at least we were prepared a few months ahead of time. A couple of months later, we lodged our 2013 tax docs with Mary who took twice as long to process as promised - I had to keep following up with her... her communication skills are not the best. Eventually it was completed - and we learned our tax bill due to the IRS was DOUBLE what she had estimated in December, with no explanation. When we went to see her about it and ask why, all Mary said was "Oh, I missed XYZ". Completely unfazed, no apology. We are talking about an error in the thousands here, not just a few hundred. Needless to say, we were extremely unimpressed - not only by her inaccuracy but also her attitude and lack of professionalism and poor communication. Additionally, at the time of our 'pre-tax' consult, we had asked Mary for advice on some changes we were planning to make to our living/business situation and regarding a large purchase - to get clarity on what tax deductible, what was not. She gave us 'the green light' so we made a large financial decision based on Mary's advice... which, we have come to learn through another accountant, is incorrect. Financially, the picture is NOT as she painted it. Finally, as we have been traveling throughout 2014, I had emailed Mary in Dember 2014 to ask her to email a digital copy of our 2013 tax return as I didn't have the hard copy with me. Now, in March 2015, I am still waiting - I have since given up on following up. I am not quite sure what has happened with this business in the last couple of years... it seems they used to be OK (based on our friend who had used them for some time) but they seem to have gone downhill quite dramatically (even my friend is unhappy now), they have laid off their staff, moved location and still don't return calls, emails. Another business owner I know who used them has had an even worse experience than ours (no return communication, incorrect advice, not filing docs with the IRS, incurring late fees)... so hearing her story (which I know to be true and not an exaggeration), I feel we got off pretty lightly! Needless to say, we won't be having our 2014 tax return - or anything else - done by RMTAS. I would have serious reservations about leaving any confidential info with them, as I could not be confident we would ever hear back, or if they will even remain in business. Having a reliable accountant whose word and accurate work you can trust is paramount. Sadly, RMTAS does little to inspire confidence that your private and confidential financial information is in good, safe hands and that you'll be getting the right advice. Final word...I rarely post negative reviews on businesses... I am not by nature a complainer, and I generally find I have good experiences - perhaps because I do my research first. In this case, I should have shopped around some more. I only hope that this review will help someone else in their search for a good accountant - they are not easy to find!
