Another place local to my home that I've not tried the entire decade I've been here, but I have made a concerted effort to try more small mom and pop type restaurants to help them through this economy. It was a little larger inside than I expected, and the menu was a lot larger than I anticipated. I'd read reviews about the pupusa, so that's the number one reason I stopped by, but when I noticed the menu was quite large, I ordered a couple of other items as well, so then I would have a better overall opinion of their offerings. On top of that, the lady working had the worst attitude she was rude, dismissive, and never once checked up on us, even though the place was empt!!!. They whip them up fresh, so patience is key! Oh, and on Wednesdays, you can snag a pupusa for just $2.50 - a steal! Usually, I'm at the laundromat next door and never considered having breakfast here. What I love is the choice between Salvadorian or Mexican style. The Salvadorian one comes with cheese and sweet plantains, while the Mexican version comes with rice, and beans, both are served with homemade tortillas! I know the name is Rancheros Tacos but this place is more than that. They make the best tasting pupusas on this side of town. We've tried many places around the neighborhood and this is our favorite spot. Yes and their chilie rellenos are the bomb. I don't like their rice or tacos but for pupusas it's great! Love this gem! It was a very pleasant surprise! Honestly, I wouldn't have gone in because it doesn't stand out physically. Although this place has a few reviews, it has great ones. So I wanted to see for myself! We (my husband and I) were shocked at how amazing the food was. It is definitely a place I would recommend going. The super asada nachos... is a must! They pile on so many different things: chips, beans, cheese, meat, lettuce, tomato, cream, cheese, radish, jalapenos, and carrots. Terrible customer service from front counter ladies. I think they might be racist if you're not a Latino or if you don't speak Spanish. Horrible horrible customer service! Beware. I typically do not write bad reviews. Extremely rude staff and cook. After 40 minutes of waiting for an order food was still not ready. Sitting at a table waiting for the food the waitress comes up and asks if i want to place an order!?? She asked what is the name on the order and i explained that the lady that took the order didn't ask for my name. She goes back to the kitchen never to be seen again. Then the rude cook comes out and yells "order for the no-name". Appalling how they would treat their paying customers. I placed an online order, paid for it and when I arrive to pick up the lady claims that they do not sell online. I showed her my online confirmation plus my credit card being charge.she dis not look surprise which now makes me doubt the validity of her answers. So I was craving pupusas, and a dinner plate, for lunch and dinner. Didn't feel like driving out to Atwater to get pupusas, since it's really far from where I live. I searched and this place was closer and had great reviews. So I ordered 4 pupusas and a chicken plate that was covered in caramelized onions with a side of rice, beans, salad and freshly made tortillas. At the point of sell she she tried to up sell me a drink, but ended up getting 2 salvi quesadillas(sweet bread). The chicken plate was good the only thing I wasn't to happy was that the chicken was dry and fried to a crips. Other then that everything else on the dinner plate was good. Seeing that I didn't eat the whole chicken, I still had room for pupusas. Like I said earlier I usually go to El Buen Gusto in Atwater for my Salvi fix. I ended up getting 4 pupusas 2 cheese and 2 cheese with pork. wow they're as good if not better then EBG, the curtido and salsa were on point and gave you good portions. The size of the pupusas where also gracious, and stuffing was the right amount. I will definitely be going back to try other plates. Oh and of course I later on had a piece of the quesadilla and it was bomb too. I'll definitely be back for my fix of Salvi and Mexican food. read more

Popped in on out way home from Sun Valley fot a quick bite. I hadn't had a pupusa since I bought one from a street vendor in Belize and wanted to try em! Happily they were just as I remembered. I got a cheese and bean pupusa and was definitely satisfied for the $2.50 that I paid. It was served with some lightly pickled canbage and carrots and salsa. Tasty and cooked just right! I think I'm the first Asian dude thats ever stepped foot in here. All eyes were glued on me....the Jukebox suddenly stopped playing too(im not sure if it was the end of the song or something). I hope a drug deal wasnt going on or anything.....I didnt bring a change of undies. The cashier, I'm guessing owner, kind of gave me and my boss a suspicious look. I walk to the counter and went through various plastered flyers on the walls showing their specials. We were craving tacos so we both ordered the 4 tacos and a can of soda special. ($5.50). We tried the carne asada and the carnitas. The cashier gave a relieved look after we ordered. Don't worry lady, we're not health inspectors. The meat was quite tasty and the salsa was fantastic! Turns out the meat is made fresh everyday and the salsa is homemade. So none of their meat was precooked like some other Mexican restaurant. Some places chop up their meat to tiny bits, Rancheros give you nice chunks. Right by the 5 freeway, if you're ever lost up here, feel free to check this place out. I do my laundry next door to this place and I've always wanted to try the pupusas. One night I went with my friend to try their pupusas and maybe some seafood. I ordered two pupusas and an "oyster" cocktail. Once we got home to eat, I noticed that the "oyster" cocktail I ordered was in fact just a shrimp cocktail. I didn't want to make a fuss and return the food, because by this time already i was hungry and didn't want to go back and haggle. Even though the oyster cocktail was $1 more than a shrimp cocktail, I was willing to let it slide. Not only did this happen on my first visit but also on my second visit, as well. they pulled the same thing on me. I ordered in broken Spanish, mind you, and they still tried to pull a fast one on me. I returned the "oyster" cocktail, claiming that I ordered the wrong thing, then tried to tell me they didn't have any oysters at all, but just a little left. I got a refund and vowed never to return. The cocktail wasn't that great. Pretty typical for a tacqueria. The pupusas were awesome! I ordered one cheese and one bean pupusa and both were delicious. Go for the pupusas, don't bother with the seafood - not that great. The older woman that works there is rather rude too, so watch out for her! I'm always pretty skeptical about places that offer both Salvadorian and Mexican food under the same roof. This restaurant is nearby to my house so I decided to give it a chance, by doing so I ordered two pupusas and an order of platanos fritos. My total was $11 plus the $0.25 fee for using my card, I wasn't to happy about that seeing as the woman helping me didn't clarify that. About ten minutes later I get my bag of stuff and was surprised by how much I had gotten. The pupusas are pretty thick compared to others, came with chips and salsa (that I was practically slurping into my mouth) and lastly, a heaping serving of the fried plantains. When I saw the pupusas were thick that also raised a flag on my head (I've had thick pupusas before and they were disgusting!) but not at Ramcheros Tacos, the cheese had a very distinct taste bit to greasy, just a pupusa jam packed with goodness. Alright I've at a lot of hole in the wall Salvadoran spots but this place really takes 1st place (Buen Gusto in Atwater comes in at 2nd). So they've got pupusas revueltas WITH LOROCO in them. DE.LI.CIOUS. Pero like, I don't know if other Salvadoran spots have that, and this is the first time I've tasted a pulida revuelta with loroco, so I'm hooked now. I've been going to this place for years. This place has UNBEATABLE pupusas. I always get the cheese, which is the best!!! It's loaded with yummy cheese so if you are worried about the fat, then forget about this one. It can be a bit greasy, cause, well, it's melted cheese. The pupusas are insanely good though so reward yourself, it may very well be the best thing you have ever eaten. The best tacos are the pastor (BBQ pork) with everything on them, especially lime. I absolutely LOVE them. I usually call ahead of time to see if they are out of pastor cause if they are, I won't make the trip since its a bit of a drive for me. Another great thing to order are the chicken tamales. I'm really picky about tamales, and no one makes them more moist and tender than this place. I hate dry and salty tamales, but these are awesome. They change the recipe every once in awhile but everytime it's good. As far as practical things for people dining out...The place is a little small and the tables close together. Sometimes it's pretty crowded. There is a jukebox, and it only plays Mexican music as far as I know. The TV is in Spanish as well. The lighting of the place is bright. The is very little decor. If you are looking for entertainment while you wait, and you don't speak Spanish, then bring your kindle, iPhone, book, or someone you like talking to to avoid boredom. I don't order any other items since these are my favorites, so I couldn't recommend anything but what I know. The service here can be slow. Keep in mind they are making everything from scratch, so it usually takes around 45 minutes. So I call in my order and pick it up. The lady with the grey hair is awesome! She always smiles when she sees me and greets me like a friend. I've never had any problems with my order and everything is always fresh and scrumptious.
