A large selection of books around each nook and cranny, and a cafe too…read more This multi level library is a bit dated looking, but beneath that, it's a big space with dedicated areas for children, fiction, nonfiction, etc. They have quite a few new book recommendations on display which is helpful for browsing. There's a lot of seating throughout and you should be able to find a quiet spot. They have the newer self checkout kiosks now so you don't have to chit chat if that's not your thing. The librarians do seem friendly though. The cafe isn't open past 6 on any day but it seems to have sandwiches, soups and baked goods; there are a few tables to sit as well. Parking lot is large and shared with the municipal building. An easy walk into town for food and shopping.

They also recently made upgrades to the interior, including a new and improved young adult section, and also added multiple new computers and seats. It's usually very quiet here, minus an hour or two after Brookside Middle School and Hillside Elementary School students are dismissed at the end of the school day, since lots of children come to the library with their parents, or stop by to do homework. The staff is also very friendly, minus one kind of scary employee. Forget Redbox, just order DVDs through the BCCLS site and put your tax dollars to work.

If they don't have something on-site, the staff can order it from any other library in Bergen County, and you'll get what you need in a day or two. I really enjoyed their summer reading program they offered this year for adults. My biggest complaint is with a few of the staff members. There are a few staff who are very rude and unhelpful. A few times I asked an older gentleman for help and he quickly responded in a rude matter, saying I can't help you. He wouldn't even try to ask a colleague or attempt to help me. I finally found a different librarian and they had to remedy the situation and teach their colleague the process. On the other hand, there are many librarians who are very friendly and helpful, but it doesn't go for everyone. In addition, they are very quick to accuse you of damaging books. The smallest tear or stain requires you to pay a large fine to replace the book. There is something called wear and tear that happens when books are lent out to people and that's the reality of a library. Overall, I am happy with the library and appreciate the resources.

There are a couple private rooms and enough tables and chairs if you need to stay awhile. Like other library systems you can order materials from any of the bergen county system libraries. There's a private lot so parking is always easy. Closed on Sundays.
