From what I understand, many towns have either shut their libraries or taken away funding resulting in less hours and rundown facilities. It's so nice to have a pretty library available to the town (and county, I think). I'm really just reviewing to support our library.

Although the library has many resources, I use it primarily for three reasons.. I read seven magazines each month cover to cover religiously. Scientific American, Smithsonian and National Geographic are three on that list. Aside from magazines, I also use their Museum Pass Program which allows free access to the American Museum of Natural History, MOMA and The Morris Museum. Lastly, I attend their special programs featured in their Pio Costa auditorium whenever my busy schedule allows. On rare occasions I'll use their computer research data bases, large video library and movie streaming service. This is but a small sampling of the programs and resources available. I believe the Hallmark of a community is the strength of their library and Montville Township Public Library has an exceptional library due in large part to leadership and staff which constantly tries to improve their services and offerings.

We are active seniors who thoroughly enjoy the Montville U programs at the library, virtual ones, craft classes for adults and afternoon concerts. The woman explained the procedure, which was very nice and served as a reminder since I had already reviewed the policy on retrieving items during the pandemic. I called the front desk after I had parked my car in one of the designated pickup spots. I told her my name and make of my car and then went to open the back door of my SUV. She came out, and I stuck my driver's license and library card up to the window so she could verify my identity. She gave me a thumbs up, placed the DVDs in the trunk and asked whether I wanted her to close the door or not. It was a nice thing to offer but I didn't think it made sense for me to open the door and for her to close it so I told her I would close it. Let's hope the return is smooth too!

This library seems fairly sprawling, taking up a lot more space than most of the other local branches. You'd think that would indicate a wider selection, and maybe that's the case in the sections I didn't see. My main complaint about this library is that they make it really hard to find what you're looking for in the strange guise of making it 'easier'. For instance, They have a section for Fantasy, a section for Mystery, a section for Science Fiction, a section for Fiction, a section for Westerns, and a section for Young Adult Fiction. Which means if you're looking for a genre-crossing title, you've got a lot of places to look. Also, there is no specific section for romance. As an example, I was looking for a romance by Sandra Hill who likes to write time-travel fiction about navy seals and vikings (don't ask). I finally found the title in the Mystery section with a label on the spine indicating that it was Fantasy. Clifton's library DOES have a selection of DVDs and quite a few TV series on dvd, but overall, their selection is underwhelming. They also have a 'new media' shelf which I was hoping would have some new DVD releases. No such luck. This shelf housed titles like "Van Helsing" and "Rambo". I guess 'new media' means new to the library. On the other hand, if you're looking for VHS tapes, this place has a room packed floor-to-ceiling with cassettes. If you're looking for older titles, you might just have luck here. The librarians are helpful, but not terribly friendly. At one point a child wandered in to use the bathroom (He indicated that his father was waiting in the car outside). The librarians took great offense at his presence without an adult and told him to use the bathroom and leave immediately. Ultimately, this creates a quiet environment, if not entirely welcoming.

My kids enjoy climbing in there with a book. The adult section is nice too. It's a beautiful round space with lots of sunlight and work / reading spaces. I haven't tried their classes yet, but must say I am intrigued by the French conversation classes and the knitting club. This library is a beautiful, well light community space for people to come and share a love for reading. I take my kids there often so they can learn to love books and reading as well and there are plenty of resources for them to do so.

Note: If you are recording, heads up, you can hear cars from Rt 280, but for studying purposes or conference calls, audio environment is good. After I was finished, I looked around the library. I found a water bottle refill wall station on the lower level. I also found that there is an elevator inside the library to get you from floor 1 and LL if you have trouble with stairs. The elevator lobby is further into the library before you are in the Teen and Kids sections (in that hallway, to the right).

It's housed in a gorgeous old stone building with a large, bright new addition. I strongly prefer a book with real paper pages over a device. My bookshelves were full years ago so I finally decided to borrow and return instead of stuffing my place further. This means I'm in the Morristown library almost every week, usually for books but occasionally for movies and music. This library's a member of the Morris County library network so it's easy to borrow from any library's holdings, which means you can get quite a lot. Not everything under the sun, but a large variety for sure. Yes there's free wi-fi and free power. If you don't have a laptop, they also have networked computers which are also free. You must have a library card to use the computers, which you can get at no cost by showing ID that proves you are a local resident. The library offers meeting rooms for community organizations, not sure of the cost. Homeless people definitely can be seen here. They've never bothered me, for what that's worth. I wonder if modern library school teaches how to handle this challenge, it must be difficult. @Benjamin M - the library reopened early 2012 after repairs from the 2010 explosion were finally complete, and the scaffolding that's up in Jan 2013 is for new stone rehab work.
