I heard about Ramon the old-fashioned way: word-of-mouth referral from a friend. He is very professional in every aspect: knowhow, appointment setup, client manner. He also told me a lot about the history and background of my piano: its maker, how its manufacturing process had changed over the years, and so on. He did his work very carefully and very well. Ramone is an excellent tuner and technician! He is sensitive to your concerns regarding the sound and action and acute at figuring out what voicing/regulations will yield the highest return for the least amount of $. I have played 2 pianos that were tuned by someone else, and then the same 2 pianos in which Ramone has tuned them and the difference is remarkable. The tuning was far more stable and long lasting after Mr. Ramirez tuned them. My Mom's piano was tuned by him almost 5 years ago in a climate controlled room and surprisingly still sounds great. We were a repeat customer having used him twice in 10 years. This last time, we paid Ramon $160 to tune our piano and within two months (or less bc I don't play that often to notice) the piano was badly out of tune. For someone who claims he "stands by his work" and that my piano wouldn't need another tuning for five more years...this seemingly "professional" but SERIOUSLY uptight, quirky man had no problem kicking us to the curb. His schedule is not currently very flexible. It didn't even bother me if we had to wait a few weeks for the initial tuning but he seemed frustrated with picking a date and time. After his visit, an entire octave was out of tune within two months and I had only played it about five times. My husband mentioned he guarantees his work so I scheduled an appt for the next week for him to come back and fix it. He doesn't offer a cell phone so you have to leave a message at his home on an old school answering machine and hope that he gets it...whenever he gets it. Due to an unforeseen family event, I called and left a message on the answering machine the day before to cancel / reschedule the appt. He called me back the next day and referred me to a website to find another piano tuner and said he wouldn't charge me the late concellation. First of all, I wasn't aware of a cancellation fee. Secondly, when I asked him about guaranteeing his work he was a little "perplexed" and condescending that I would ask him to do that after 2 months. I quickly realized that he seemed upset with me so I apologetically asked if I had done something to upset him and he basically just shooed me off the phone. Unbelievable. I'm thinking that I should be the one that is upset because I'm the one out of $160. read more
