Ok it wasn't so bad to give a 1* but I really wanted to bring down the 4.5* which it doesn't deserve. They have a total of 3 ramen dishes and two of which I had the displeasure of tasting was completely devoid of any flavor or meat. It was no where near the hype created that generated a queue half a mile long and a wait of 1.5 hours. We've waited for about 1 hour to eat. Ramen was average. I found it a little overrated.

My husband and I are ramen foodies and every time we travel to a new city we try out the best ramen spot. We went to Ramen-Ya Hiro for dinner around 9pm on a Thursday but the line was out the door and down the street. At least 65 people stood in front of us & they can only seat about 20 ppl at a time because they have VERY LIMITED SEATING. We decided to leave and come back the next day for lunch. They open for lunch at 1:30 so we got there at 12:45 and a line was already forming but we were 2nd in line. By the time 1:30 came there were at least 50 people behind us. They didn't actually start seating people until about 1:40 because the two waitresses took a smoke break. it was very annoying because we had already waited so long. Once we sat down, the waitresses went around the tables to take the orders but not in the order that we were seated... meaning even though we were the second ones to sit down we were the last ones to get our order taken. That was very discouraging and we thought about leaving but after all that effort we decided to wait. Another let down was that they have no vegetarian options. My husband and I eat fish so luckily they had a fish Ramen. We ordered two of those, with a salad and edamame. The food made up for the service. The ramen was so delicious and we made it spicy which is an option and it was so great. it was full of flavor and the noodles were so fresh and good. the wafu salad was very good as well. the dressing seemed to be homemade and very nice. The food is five stars but the line and the service was more along 3 stars which is why i gave this a 4 star review. Make sure you order everything at once because trying to get the attention of the waitresses is difficult. They are very busy and would benefit from a bigger location and more staff however it is worth the wait. Just be sure to get there early unless you want to wait in line for hours. read more

I'm a Chinese girl and I love this place. I was very upset about something unexpected the other day and I decided to heal myself by having Asian Cuisine. So I found out about this restaurant and the queue outside is insane! I had ramen miso and ice cream. Both are very good. Ramen could be a little more authentic but given that we are in Barcelona, I'd say that's already a very, very good job. After I finished my food, I feel happy again. There's always line for this place every day, and people can wait for around an hour to get seated. The redeeming value is that you can order drinks and have them while you're standing. The ramen soup is the star of the show, it needs no further mentioning. It's up there with the great ramens of Tokyo. We arrived here minutes after they opened (8:30pm) and the line was out the door. We were finally seated at 10...this was a Wednesday night. This was our first time in Barcelona, and was not on our list of things to try. But my boyfriend's stomach could not handle anymore tapas (though ramen is not far off in terms of richness), so we decided to try this place. We're from the Bay Area in California, so our ramen standards are pretty high. I'd say the soup was surprisingly decent - had depth and complexity. Wasn't just straight salty that leaves your mouth a desert. The noodles though are what brings this review down to 3 stars. They were hakata style - so the straight, skinny ones. They were over-cooked, not springy or al dente. They absorbed too much liquid halfway through my bowl. But if you need a quick soupy Asian fix, and you don't mind the wait, this wouldn't be a total waste of your time. read more

Went to this place for two reasons: (i) it had great reviews and (ii) wanted a break from spanish/catalan/similar food. Im not a ramen expert but do go regularly to ramen places in LA and Berlin, usually on the rec of ramen fanatics. Since the reviews of this place are extremely positive, we had very high expectations. The line is pretty crazy every day (we live around the block), which further raised our expectations. But one rainy day we decided to go through the ordeal of waiting in line for a table. Once we got seated, my LA gf could predict from menu arrangement/description that the place was going to be mediocre. Still, I had hope. We both ordered soy-broth based ramen, with some extras. While we waited, the group sitting next to us (very close) were already eating and expressed their delight in every way they could, linguistically, with laughter, and even some shrieks. They seemed to be real locals, so although I was not sure how familiar they were with this kind of food, their obvious approval still fed my hopes. Finally our meal arrived. We both took a huge spoonful... and round two seconds later we looked at each other and bursted out laughing. There was hardly any need for words, but we agreed that "this is prob the worst ramen we ever had". Broth was tasteless and yet super salty (mine was pork and chicken, yet had a nasty seafood after taste). The pork was soft but also tasteless. The extra egg was good. And the alcohol free beer i order suddenly emerged from the shadows as the star of the show. The beer was amazing. I really have to say thank you to fellow Yelpers for being clear on the timetable and the wait. My family and I showed up right when Ramen-Ya Hiro opens in the afternoon, and we were seated outside on a wet day in Barcelona. I wasn't quite sure what to expect for a ramen joint in Spain, but the miso ramen I ordered was decent. I wasn't blown away by it, and my brother and I thought the soup had a weird/different taste to it that was unexpected. It was definitely flavorful, but pulled away from the actual miso flavor. We also had the gyoza - nothing very special and expensive for what it is. Service was quite slow and not terribly helpful. Our menus were in Japanese and Spanish only, so between the Japanese I learned 8 years ago and the Spanish we could pick up, my family and I could decipher a basic version of the menu! read more

Cherish this place, Barcelonians! You probably don't even know you have it reallllll good. At the end of our 2 week europe trip, I was finally craving some asian food. Seeing the great reviews and the hype brought me to this place. Our flight came in at 1:30pm and considering we still had to take the train into the city and check into our hotel, I was worried we weren't going to make it. Plus, I was also worried that there would be a line out the door like everyone said. To our luck, there was one empty table! But like I said, since this place gets packed, we ended up having to share our table with someone else, which was a little awkward. That didn't affect us from enjoying their ramen though. Their lunch combo comes with your choice of 2 types of ramen broth, either gyoza or salad and a drink for 10.50 euros. The gyoza was delicious! Thin skinned, juicy and pan fried to the right crispiness. But here comes the star, the soja ramen! Their broth was rich without being overly salty or heavy. Its served with thin noodles, which is my preferance anyway. Too bad it only comes with one mouth-watering chasu. We tried to add extra chasu but they already sold out. We also added an egg since it doesn't come with one and it was perfectly soft-boiled like how it should be. Good ramen places are really hard to come by in my opinion since it's hard not to have heavy broth. The cut of the chasu is also very important as this one has a good fat to meat ratio so the meat melted in my mouth. Ramen-ya Hiro, if you ever so desire to come to the United States, please come to Los Angeles/Orange County area! I still haven't found ramen that matches up to yours!! read more

Me and my husband are both ramen-holic in Taiwan. We've even traveled to Japan for best ramen. This is our first time in Barcelona and it was our 10th day here. We really miss some Asian food. Finally we found HiRo and it was just amazing! Since the first bite we know that it is traditional Japanese style and the noodle and the soup are both perfect. No way is this a 5 star place. Definitely not worth your time! Not going back because the food was mediocre and they are so slow. We needed our Asian food fix so we came here, there's a line 8pm. Wait staff were nice, but service was slow. We've had ippudo and totto in New York City. This ramen joint is cute but it's pale in comparison to what we are used to in NY. The onigiri's rice was partially macerated and squashed together. I ordered the Tsukamen and the dipping sauce was on the lukewarm-cool side, noodles were ok, the pork belly was deliberately burned until the skin or fat blackened completely, which I felt like I was eating cancer. Broth tasted predominantly kikoman soy saucy. Before you decide to eat here, keep in mind that you will be waiting 1-2 hours before getting seated. Sounds crazy but this is actually pretty typical for ramen spot that's super good....and super small. That being said, arrive early (before 8:30p) and order some beers while you're in line to pass the time. Finally got seated after 2 hours of waiting, but I'm sure we would have been seated earlier if our group was smaller..we had 5 of us. We all ordered the Miso ramen (8.50€) with an extra egg(.50€)..I added extra seaweed on the side. It was a pretty solid bowl of ramen with tasty savory broth, a perfectly boiled&marinaded egg, and tender pork. Wish there was more noodles and that the noodles weren't as chewy..but for a ramen spot this good in Barcelona I can't really complain! This was my first time eating ramen. I decided to go to this place because of all the excellent reviews I read about it. The local is really really small and it gets overcrowded easily so you have to wait in a long line in the street before getting a sit. I had to wait like one hour (not a joke) and it was a Thursday at 8.30pm, so I guess it would have been even more on a weekend. When we finally got to sit inside, I thought my dinner would not be very comfortable because all the tables were really close to each other and there was no space. Besides that, I was still excited to try a ramen bowl for the first time and even more at Ramen-Ya Hiro, because I have a Japanese friend who says this is the real ramen you can eat if you go to Japan. I have to say that the noodles and all the toppings were really flavorful and I liked it pretty much. So, the three stars go to the food, which actually deserves five, but I cannot give the highest rate to this place because I did not really like the ambiance inside the restaurant. It beats the almost everywhere UDON in Barcelona on taste and price by a large amount. The broth was very good and rich, not like what UDON offers. The noodle texture was a bit off, but still quite good. The place is very crowded. Make sure you go there at opening time and get in early in line. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Barcelona; cheap bowls of delicious, flavorful ramen with fantastic broths. Definitely add the poached egg to the soup. Just some really really good ramen. The wait is terrible, but the food almost makes up for it. I'd recommend layering up in the winter months because you'll be waiting for at least half an hour to an hour outside in order to get a table (which might also be outside). But at least you can access the bar while waiting and if you're stuck outside there's heaters and blankets! The ramen is salty and savory and the noodles are perfect. read more

Expected sunny weathers, but the clouds came rolling in. The Asian in me wanted noodles to stay warm, so I decided to check out this place. I ordered miso ramen with extra nori/seaweed, maize, and egg. The broth was so good, it was the first time I had a ramen with that much garlic. Since I had a lot of soup left after, I ordered a second serving of just noodles, nori, and chatsu and finished the whole bowl. The extras are .5 to 1 euro each, with the exception of the noodles which was 1.5 euro. The miso ramen itself was around 8 euros, so the pricing is not that expensive. read more
