The tonkotsu black was great , the soup was smooth and well balanced , the noodles cooked just right. The tonkotsu spicy was just the right level of spice for a noodle dish. I was taken aback - places with the nerve to charge for kaedama charge less (Ramen Danbo $1, Muso $2), and most places offer it for free (Hakataya chains and Ramen Champion offer 1x, Gentotsu offers UNLIMITED) (on further research, $3 is on par with JFX Nexus). Apparently there's a large bowl option (+$2), so I chose that. The noodle and soup itself was fine, but there was only one slice of pork to boot even for the size upgrade (and the $6 sliced pork side option is also the most expensive of ramen joints). I can see ppl visiting this place if they needed a ramen fix, and this was the only place within walking distance - but JFX is 3min walk away, and they offer free miso soup. I was first skeptical due to the food presentation (look at the chasiu pork and the shoyu broth that is not clear...) and how pricey it was ($17 AUS). Still we were hungry and mood for ramen, so we dropped by. Looks are deceiving because this is one of the most subtle yet fantastic bowls I've had. Don't let that bland looking chasiu fool you; it is one of the richest porks I've ate. And it is served cold. But you let it submerged into the broth and it blends so well together. An envelope of flavors, rich fatty pork, and skinny ramen noodles slurped up into a harmonious taste. And the soup is so good to drink by the spoonful. Or by the bowl. I picked up the bowl instead. The time was around 2:45pm on Saturday, there were around 2 tables who already received their food. I ordered a Charsiu ramen (the original ramen with extra pork slices). With no other orders waiting before mine, I got my ramen within 2 minutes, making it one of the fastest places. Ramen: The noodle used here is thin (less than 1mm) noodles. The soup is fine. The pork slices are 1.5mm thick, cut from a roll of around 10cm diameter, which makes it one of the more generous dispensors of charsiu amongst ramen joints. The charsiu ramen boasts around 5 to 6 pieces of these babies - I think that's one of the best value-of-money charsiu ramens in Gold Coast. Notes: The kaedama (extra ball of noodle) here is free for the first serving per customer, then $2.50 each. FYI, there's free self-serve pink pickled ginger and sesame grinder. Also, there's a $2-off deal for big-eaters/macrophages who order a ramen and something deep-fried.
