Could there be a MORE FAB spot in QC!? I don't think so, jjacques IS the SPOT to go if you want a…read morebeautiful meal, incredible service, delicious food and bevies! I've been lucky enough to come twice now while on vacation to jjacques and both times were exceptional, I also funnily enough sat at the exact same table both times. The service and staff and excellent - they give great recommendations, are funny and just make you feel taken care of. Shout-out to Nathan our waiter who spoke in EN for half the table and FR for the other half haha. He was so fun! The first time I came here was with my husband and we had a lovely dinner - the salmon blinis were our fave so I knew when I was here the second time, they were a must! The second time, there were six of us so we ordered quite a bit - we had the salmon blinis with caviar, a few oysters, the cod fritters, the prawn cocktail, the mushroom tortellini, flounder crudo, and whole fried fish - for dessert we did a cheese plate with some delicious local cheese. Everything was delicious - the whole fish is a must - the skin is so crispy and tasty - has a lot of Vietnamese flavours. The cocktails are also fabulous here - I had the Mexican Firing Squad and the Jungle Bird - both delicious and easy to drink! The room itself reminds me of a cool speakeasy bar/resto you'd find in the streets of New York City. It's hidden in an alleyway behind a very unassuming door. It's all part of the magic of the restaurant. If there is one place to go for dinner in QC, go here. We booked a reso in advance and I recommend you do this to secure your spot!

The staff were all very great in explaining everything about the menu. For example, if you want the beef Tomahawk ($145), they told you to order it now since it'll be a 45 minute wait. We started off with 24 oysters ($72) as we love oysters. They had different type of oysters and we enjoyed the east coast oysters. My favorite dishes that we ordered were the seared scallops ($42) and the Butterfish Tataki ($22). We were a bit disappointed in the Crab Rotolo ($36) as we didn't enjoy the combination of the sauce and crab. The scallops were cooked very well and we loved the sauce for the Tataki. The Vitello Tonnato ($22) and Cod Fritters ($15) were decent but not as good in comparison to our favorites. We throughly enjoyed our dinner here as we had a good time trying all the food and mocktails they offered.

The braised octopus with potatoes was a standout, as was the gravlax and roasted Iceland cod. Good oysters with understated mignonette sauce. Highly recommend!

We had a reservation for 6, and we got seated in a MASSIVE booth/table that could easily fit 10ppl. A little awkward but not a deal breaker. We ordered a few drinks and a bottle of wine to share among us which came out quickly with the apps. While waiting for the entrees, our wine got warm as there wasn't an ice bucket that was given to us but wouldn't matter much because we finished our drinks by the time the food came out. The entrees were not as good- combination of personal preference and the way it was cooked. For the pasta, I thought it would be noodle shaped but it was shells- kinda a disappointment. A friend ordered the pork and shrimp plate and was told it was very dry/overcooked overall. The veggies side was what we talked about after the meal with how good it was. Not sure if I'll be coming back but they do have a rotating menu so hopefully there are better dishes coming up.

La Girolle. What a place to feast yourself. This spot in Quebec is where you come to congratulate…read morelife on food. La Girolle welcomes you with a vintage look and drags you in with one of the best services I have ever experienced in Canada. Then, a server will deliver an ode to the menu and recite each dish like a bard revealing the tales of the Chef and his staff. Deciding on what you will eat after the waiter's epic monologue becomes like a life decision. The Hurt Locker has nothing against this menu. The duck, the seafood, the crème brûlée. Wow. I do not believe in the line of judges where every single one pulls up a 10 after an Olympic performance. La Girolle is the exception. They are Olympians of food and service. J'ai hâte de trouver une excuse pour me rendre à Québec et célébrer quelque chose à cet endroit. C'est comme ouvrir une bouteille de champagne.

Which is fine for some. But don't want anyone disappointed. It is a traditional cuisine with a fantastic presentation. Truly. I am not a fan for all of the sauces. But you could help but eat every bite. There is a fixed price for starter and dinner. Then you can add a lm appetizer. I thought that displaced the starter. It did not. So. Be prepared. We walked back to Quebec City to walk off the calories. If you find me on the Appalachian trail in Maine. I might have broken even. Anyhow. We did the Foie grad creamer brûlée. Whoever invented that should be kissed and shot. (But not hurt. Don't want harm). Cause it is so freaking good. The fig parfait on the side was tasty. Would have preferred a different texture as it was close to the creme brûlée. But it all went together. Next was the chèvre Chaud. With diced fennel and apple. Loved this dish. Delicious. Had the lamb. It was very tasty. Again I am not a fan for the sauces. I gave it a five cause it was well prepared. The venison was actually slightly sweet and tasty. Opted out of dessert. Damn. I would be in Pennsylvania before I burned the calories.
