I'm not a huge fan of Ramen and have had some pretty outright gross experiences ordering it so I was completely skeptical about this place. Lucky for me, a friend of mine insisted we give it a shot and I'm so happy I grew a pair and went! Service was absolutely lovely, our waitress was polite and accommodating. The food came out quickly and the portion size was A LOT larger than I had anticipated. I ordered the "Dan Dan" with chicken and it was so delicious, highly recommended if you like spicy food. The ingredients were fresh and perfectly cooked. For $12, it was a steal. The neighborhood isn't the best, but it's certainly up-and-coming and a lot of neat places like this are being scattered around. The only negative thing I can say is the restaurant kind of smells (but maybe I have a sensitive nose because of allergy season). It was a little off-putting at first but the food more than made up for it. Also, they don't use MSG which is fantastic. Will definitely be back! read more

Original review: 5-stars. Less than 2-years later: 1-star! The food is good and reasonably priced, it really is, but if you're like me... the service has to be equally good--if not better! The service here has gotten worse and worse (HORRENDOUSLY SLOW) with the last several times actually requiring the owner to come over and apologize. It wasn't only unprofessional since its her establishment and obviously hires and trains these people, but she commented about how hard it is to find good wait staff and that our waiter was a family member and that "he was the worst!" The waiter heard these rude comments! We were mortified, embarrassed and have not been back since. Got tired of returning for the sushi we were always being told would be available next visit! I've lived in the area for over 5 years now and am extremely intrigued by the new preppy businesses popping up around town. Which brings me to Ramenesque. Small noodle shop that recently opened up in Peekskill, NY. Not much foot traffic when i visited, so the owner took her time to walk us through the menu and chat us up about her new venture. Soup was great for the price and they make their ice cream in house (I had the green tea ice cream). Only thing I'd like to put an amend on is the decor and furnishings. Rocky tables, poor table lighting... Seems like they bought everything on display at Home Goods. But if you are a fan of Ramen and everything it stands for, I recommend swinging by. read more

RamenNesque is a ramen noodle restaurant located in scenic downtown Peekskill, NY. The decor is simple and with limited seating, but the experience proved to be delicious and memorable. We actually had a party of 7 for a Sunday lunch and practically took most of the space. Staff was immediately welcoming and attentive. There are other locations for this place. The menu has some Japanese favorites like miso soup and seaweed salad, but ramen and the main menu have several options sure to please. Our party was set on the ramen dishes...how could you go wrong with a spicy broth, ramen noodles, marinated meat clothed by crisp veggies on a wintery cold Sunday?! Well you can't and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I had the Dan Dan Ramen that threw into each bit a fiery spice that complimented the noodles and fresh spinach. Others got the apparent staple of Shoyu Ramen with traditional soy sauce flavor. Another spicy one with a tangy twist was the TomYum Ramen. The dishes for the most part are simple with simple ingredients, but the combinations were perfect. The portion size was more than adequate. Lunch in fact was quiet as everyone was too busy enjoying. And since this included the kids, extra bonus for the adults! We did not try the main dishes, but on menu there seems to be several tasty options. This place is definitely one I will return to again. A nice modern place to get ramen. There's a small selection of flavors to choose from but my favorite so far has been the soy sauce ramen, I also suggest getting the honey ginger tea, very sweet and delicious. So I finally made it to Ramenesque. Let me start off by saying that if you want to go eat there on a Friday or Saturday MAKE RESERVATIONS. It's a small place and seating is limited. A lot of people got turned away cause there was no seating available. With that out of way, we got lucky. We got the last table available for 2. Their Service was great! Good, not great. They need more seating for 2 people. Had parties of two waiting while they left larger tables completely open. They made a big deal about having a reservation, but had lots of space. The front room is much cozier than the back room, which is cold and way too bright. At 6 PM they had already run out of gyoza, which I suspect they didn't have at all that day. The Ramen itself was pretty good, but not as hot as it should be. Everything is served in plastic, which probably adds to the loss of heat. Service was erratic and not streamlined. Our friend threw her husband his 40th birthday party here. We had as appetizers pork gyoza, vegetable gyoza & kimchi pancake. All were so tasty! Kimchi pancakes were so full of flavor. Main entrees it was an options of Shoyu Ramen, Miso Ramen, Tom Yum Ramen, Ginger Chicken Bowl (not a soup) & Ginger Tofu bowl. I picked the Tom Yum because I enjoy a good tom yum goong. Tom yum ramen was flavorful. It was not too spicy, lemongrass taste. It had chicken breast, which I could have done without (it was a bit too dry). Our friend's daughter had the miso. I tried the soup, it was phenomenal! I enjoyed my tom yum but I would have choose the miso, if I knew it tasted that great! It was definitely miso soup taste! Dessert, they served a bowl of lychee, melon & black sesame rice cakes (mochi) in coconut milk. Delicious...as a dessert, it was not overly sweet. This RameNesque restaurant sure did not disappoint. Ordered takeout on a Saturday night around 6:15PM. Was told they were out of gyoza, which seems to be a theme in the reviews. Tried the kimchi pancake and was pleasantly surprised. My husband also enjoyed it. It had spice that builds as you eat it and it was the perfect amount for sharing. For entrees we got a shoyu and Dan Dan ramen. The Dan Dan had more flavor as you would expect but both were lacking that depth and umami you look forward to in a ramen. Didn't come close to the best ramen we've had which happened to be in Vancouver. Portion was generous we both had some leftover. I'd give them another try but probably won't put it into the regular rotation. read more

The ramen is very good and the restaurant is cozy. Don't be deceived when you walk in because there's also a larger rear dining room, and a beautiful patio area that's open during the warmer months. For appetizers we love the gyoza, crab salad and kimchi. The non-ramen dishes are really tasty but I must say I wish they came with a little more food/ingredients and/or at least more sauce. Another perk is there is literally always excellent jazz playing, courtesy of one of the owner's playlists. Great beer and sake selection too. Ramen is below average (4/10). I hate to give this restaurant a negative review. The staff is super nice and attentive. I also liked the decor and vibe of the place. But the quality of the Ramen is not very good. The noodles are completely forgetable and I would not be surprised if they are the pre-packaged kind. The broth did not have enough flavor or complexity. Finally, the chicken that came with my Ramen had not absorbed any of the flavors of the broth. It seems like they tossed in some chicken at the very end of preparing the bowl. Maybe it's because I am coming from New York City and I am used to the Ramen that is available to us there. Extremely below average, with above average pricing. Cheap ingredient choices. The chicken and pork both seem canned or dry. Broth was either too salty or just very underwhelming. Egg overcooked(its not supposed to be hardboiled) Noodles were also cheap. If you've never had ramen, this is ok. But if you go to a real place you'll see a staggering difference in quality, ingredient choice and taste. Their other food isn't great either. Absolutely amazing ! I had the TomYum bowl along with appetizers, and everything was so fresh and delicious. Our waiter Andrew was amazing and very helpful in picking out just the right dishes for us. Everything hit the right tastebuds. The owner Nicky kept checking on us to ensure we were happy and comfortable during our whole visit . If they have the Japanese cheesecake for dessert it a must try ! Anyway, we split dumplings for an appetizer and each had a bowl of Ramen. I had the spicy and savory one and loved every minute of it. We were too stuffed for dessert and the total for dinner (before tax and tip) was $24.50. How in the world can you beat that? Service was excellent, including a constant supply of water. Bombin' Ramen. Got the shoyu to stay and the miso to go. Finished the shoyu there, and actually started working on the Miso when I was still there. Miso over shoyu. Miso is much more rich and tasty than the relatively simple shoyu, with sesame oil, sesame seeds, scallions, corn, nori seaweed, half an eggy, AMAZING roast pork, bok choy, and of course chewy wonderful quality noodles. Probably made by Sun. Tonkatsu had a perfectly crispy pork cutlet, a delicious and mild curry sauce, and a generous portion of rice. The angled bowl is a good touch, because you're going to need some defenses from your jealous diners. Gyoza were tasty, with a nice spicy sauce on the side. Tom Yum ramen had a really well balanced spicyness to it, with a bit of a gingery lemongrass finish. Got a cold? Get that. Had a little bit of the garden salad, not ice cold (My teeth!) like you get at other places, with much better ginger dressing. The chocolate mochi cake is essentially like a Japanese brownie, and very delicious. Might be good with some red bean ice cream? Setting is pretty cozy, went with a party of six and had a big table with two chairs and two bouncey benches. Staff is incredibly charming, friendly, and inviting. Probably the most polite waitress I've ever had. You are making a massive mistake if you don't come here. Pros: Great food, good prices, awesome staff, quick service, good selection (Even for picky eaters.) Oh, and best tonkatsu we've ever had. Interesting decor. Two sperate dining areas, one a bit more causal/loud/trendy, the other a bit more classical. Cons: Lighting is a bit harsh, I suggest ditching the halogen bulbs, or dimming them substantially. I was a bit jealous as I think the Tom Yum people got more noodles than me. I feel like a bowl of ramen should be a battle to finish, I wish I got a bit more noodles. Perhaps have the menu offer extra noodles? In all, vegans will be happy here, very casual and trendy, and good for kids. Menu isn't that massive, but everything I had here was phenomenal. Nice to know a 10 minute drive to Peekskill from Croton can get you a very nice bowl of authentic ramen in a cute establishment with great service. Brought the family there Friday in the early side and we sat in the back which gave me the nostalgic feeling of being in a Japanese or Taiwanese cafe. Modern and quirky decor. We ordered one of each of the Ramen bowls. The kids shared the Miso Ramen. I had the Shoyu Ramen and the missus had the Tomyum Ramen. All were delicious. Broth was just right. Noodles were springy. Shredded pork was tasty. I wish the half egg was a little more soft boiled but overall it was pretty authentic tasting/tasty. We started w the delicious seaweed salad which the kids devoured and some gyoza which were fresh and light. I recommend this place to anyone needing a good authentic comfort food fix. read more
