These chimney cake delights are Romanian-Hungarian in origin and are spit-baked little funnels covered in butter (and cinnamon-sugar for the sweet ones) and then filled with either savory or sweet toppings. The savory ones are like a conical sandwich. The sweet are filled with ice cream like a cone mostly, with lots of mix-ins included and toppings available. Everything is made to order and the owner is currently solo in this gif, so it's a small wait for your treats but oh is it worth the wait! We had the "It's Always Rainy in Portland" Philly cheesesteak for a savory, and the "Monkey Business" ice cream with Nutella added for a sweet. Both absolutely worth coming back for, and I look forward to trying the two breakfasty ones and more ice cream. So happy to have them in the near-neighborhood and can't wait to go back!

If there's one sugary thing that's stuck with me since childhood it's definitely my love of Snowballs and Hana's has them (and they're inexpensive). There isn't much seating inside anymore, and less outside. But that doesn't matter because you're in Montavilla and can take your coffee or whatnot to go and walk around the block. We were lucky to stumble upon Nate's today when looking for dessert to bring to a dinner party with friends. The folks at this sweet little bakery provided excellent customer service, and shared some really helpful recommendations. I was pleasantly surprised to see they offer plenty of gluten-free options as well! We ordered a dozen cookies for $40, and they were perfectly packaged in two cute little cube boxes. Each of the cookies are presented vertically in the box, with the name of the cookie conveniently printed in plain view! The staff recommendations were spot-on because the cookies were a huge hit with our friends. Soft and chewy in the middle, and cruchy and crumbly outside; these cookies really are fantastic! I saved a triple chocolate cookie for my lunch tomorrow and I'm hoping I have the discipline to wait until then to enjoy it!
