This is still such a wonderful place with a great selection of music and so many cool retail items. And expertly curated and displayed. Still, my most favorite record store I've ever been to. Moved to California 30+ years ago and every time I'm in town I gotta take a peek and do that whole nostalgia trip in my head-if only the walls could talk, OH MY! I love the creaking floors as you walk across the showroom remembering those sounds heard in the basement packing my own orders to ensure in stock items were shipped. The cast of characters that visited and cool musicians- one day Devo came popping through handing out 3-D buttons with those flower pot looking things on their heads and strange jumpsuits. "It's not too late To whip it Into shape Shape it up Get straight Go forward Move ahead" This trip, my daughter and her fiancé came through-my daughter wore my old Electric Fetus company jacket. Old school blue satin-like with my name, embroidered and a beautiful logo with pussy willows or something embroidered on the back. True classic. The nice staff was very friendly and enamored with the jacket and the manager took some pictures which gave my daughter a huge tickle. I think the cat's name is Bob Fuchs and he's been there since the late '80s and a good ambassador of the brand and so kind to indulge us.

The Record Spot is a very small "hole-in-the-wall" shop, with enough room to fit maybe 5 or 6 folks standing inside flipping through the bins. The owner is super-friendly, and appears to have an affinity to late 70s, early 80s punk, new wave, and early modern rock. All of the pricing is on masking tape, priced fairly, and I couldn't find one record in the bin that was less than VG+ condition. Overall, the store is very well organized, and I recommend taking a look through the $1 and $2 bins. The sleeves in these bins are pretty beat, but the records I picked up all play clean and were a real bargain. I loved at the end, when I was checking out, how the owner wanted to know more about the records I was snagging. I picked up clean copies of U2's Boy and October at very fair prices, where he even shaved a couple of bucks off the total. If you're driving by fast enough, you'll miss this little gem of a record store. It's worth a visit if you're looking for classics in good shape at a fair price.

As I had plenty of time to spare for Lunch with my brother (at the nearby 5-8 Club), I wandered over. Know Name Records struck me as a combination of a CD/Vinyl records store, a head shop, t-shirt seller, memorabilia collection, head shop, disk golf dealer, and rummage sale. The later was based on a couple sets of old speakers, a turntable, and other vintage items that were for sale. Plus from this person of 65's perspective, it didn't look like the 2 older guys tending the counter had escaped the 60s. :) I had a great time looking around. I wasn't much interested in the weed-related or vinyl merchandise, and I would never get those speakers on the plane. But, the CDs were interesting and I found a great Vikings/Prince "Purple Reign" (if only for that NFL team) jersey that I just had to take home (see picture). I'm sure to come back the next time I'm anywhere this side of the Crosstown Freeway. Plus I'd fully expect that there would be a whole new inventory to explore. Good prices too.
