One of the greatest things about summer is Ralph's. They definitely have the best ices around. There's a whole slew of Italian Ice flavors divvied up by water ice and cream ice. There's so many choices to be made! You really can't go wrong with either, but the cream ices can spin your world in a tizzy fast. I'm more partial to the cream ices, such as the rainbow cookie (with real pieces of rainbow cookie) or the chocolate hazelnut (real whole hazelnuts and chocolate chunks). The water ice is done well though; the traditional rainbow ice is great here. A small gives you the opportunity for two flavors, so that kind of helps with indecisive flavor choices. They also have soft serve, but that's really not their main attraction here. Oh Ralph's, how I wish you would open up in the DC area...

Considering returning this weekend to check out the live music. Well worth a stop when you're in downtown Farmingdale.

Nick, the owner at the front, was friendly and welcoming. However, the second owner, John, took issue with my presence, addressing me condescendingly while I waited for the restroom and later attempting to shame me for "loitering" in an otherwise empty café. When I pointed out that spending hours in a coffee shop is normal, he refused to engage, dismissing the conversation as "not a debate." I found his approach heavy-handed--a quick glance at the register would have confirmed I was a paying customer. The venue itself is charming with an eclectic design: marble and superhero posters up front, a long row of small tables forming a communal table in the middle, and a bar with patio space in back. The ice cream and cappuccinos were solid and fairly priced, with courteous staff throughout. It's a nice spot with genuine mom-and-pop appeal. Perhaps if you're a family, your chances of being treated as a miscreant over the opportunity cost of a few hours use of a venue will be much less. Godspeed. PS. Thank you for the hospitality Nick!

I like how spacious the Farmingdale location is, even on a weekend. I struggled on the self-checkout line and the staff member was super helpful and even told me the code for my bundle of herbs after they had stepped pretty far away. Super attentive! If you get the app, you get a free ice cream cone for every $100 spent. Easy to reach that if you're buying any meat or seafood here. And a bonus surprise--I found the butter-dipped soft serve available here, so I got to try that.

I enjoyed walking around and taking in the animatronics--they always make the trip feel more like an experience than a regular grocery run. In the fruit department, an employee was cutting up a pink pineapple. We were curious, and she happily offered us a sample, which felt like great customer service in action. I picked up a few sale items, but overall found most things to be a bit overpriced. For me, Stew Leonard's is more of a fun outing than a place to do all my regular grocery shopping. It's perfect for seasonal finds and unique items.
