I've always enjoyed coming here whenever I'm in the area, and this visit was no exception. The atmosphere was nice, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The bread pudding was absolutely the highlight of the meal; it was hands down the best part and completely delicious. The food overall was pretty good, and everything was prepared well. Our waiter did a great job and provided friendly, attentive service throughout the meal. Recently was in the area and I went here back to back days. The first day was a Friday during Happy Hour. It wasn't busy, I sat at the bar in the bar area. The happy hour specials had to be asked about, however the bartender/server was very attentive and responsive. I ordered the Mango Cart beer along with the sampler of charbroiled oysters. The bartender also brought out some bread. I had high hopes for the oysters, and although you get a variety, they left me feeling somewhat disappointed. The Rockefeller had way too much spinach, the charbroiled was dry and had too much bread crumbs, the crab stuffed was okay and to my surprise the Diablo was my favorite. I also got some bread pudding which came out pipping hot. It tasted okay although it was too much for one person. Overall I gave the meal 4 stars The next day I came back with friends and we sat in the dining area. This was disastrous. The server let us know she was going to come back and help us after she got the LARGE group next to us taken care of but would put our order in first. Then she forgot about us. Actually told us she had already put their order in and proceeded to take our order. Then she had to come back and confirm (which was wrong) as she didn't write anything down. We started off with an order of crab stuffed mushrooms. Although the stuffing was tasty, as a whole it wasn't something I'd order again. I ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 - 1/2 poboy and gumbo. Food was just okay. The sandwich was dry, the gumbo was mostly rice. My friend, who we were celebrating, was disappointed with her food. When it came to the table she saw fries and asked was there an option and the server said yes, and she proceeded to ask her what she would have liked instead. However the fish was dry, the shrimp was overcooked and the veggies (that she replaced for the fries) was the highlight of her meal. Great Food, better service. Ralph's layout and decor was very cool and swampy. My daughters had just finished watching "Waterboy" so they were delighted to see the giant alligator next to where we sat. The food had us all in a coma. Good thing it was already late and we were adjusting from Hawaiian standard time! We had a ball. Our waiter (forgot his name) gave us a personal experience beyond what we are used to. He recommended Catfish Cocodrie, we also had Etouffe, Chicken and sausage gumbo, and Taste of Louisiana. It's hard to find any gripes with our visit. We will be back! read more

We didn't know what to expect when we walked it. It kind of resembles a Cracker Barrel due to its merchandise section. Our waitress's name was Amber, and she was a phenomenal representation of southern hospitality. We mentioned we had gotten our baby's pic with Santa at Bass Pro Shop a couple weeks ago, and it turns out she had dated Santa's son the food was amazing--especially the rolls! We asked for another serving of them. I got the Chicken K-jun Bleu, and Boo got the Shrimp Brochette. I luckily had enough leftover to take home for another meal. My friend, daughter, and I dined here to celebrate my graduation. Crystal was our server, and promptly introduced herself. I ordered a blackened seafood combo. I wasn't aware that I could order another side and fries were added. I also ordered stuffed mushrooms. The food came quite quickly and I immediately noticed that my fish was overcooked, the shrimp was heavily seasoned as was the dirty rice . I asked for veggies instead of fries and Crystal honored that. My daughter and I tried the stuffed mushrooms and there was an odd taste but I continued to chew. My daughter immediately spat hers out and said that the shrimp was sour. I told her that I thought it was the lemon juice. I tried another and took the shrimp off to eat separately and it was definitely spoiled. Crystal never asked how the meal was but instead bought a to go box for the meal that had barely been eaten. Within 15 minutes of leaving, my stomach started bubbling and we had to stop at the nearest restaurant stop. We stopped again within 30 mins of leaving due to me having diarrhea. I called the restaurant to complain and spoke with Trey. Trey apologized and said that he'd inform the cook staff. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will never return. My graduation meal was ruined along with my return trip home to Fort Worth. For those who may question, how do I know it was the food from this establishment? A group of us were in town for the weekend and we wanted to eat here. I called and made a reservation because there were 8 of us dining; we got there and the hostess was extremely rude in general especially after I mentioned that I called and made the reservation. This was 10/3 she was a short female, glasses, black dress and curly hair (afternoon shift). We were dumbfounded by how rude she was not only with her tone and facial expressions, but also the way she brought us to the table and dropped everything. It was the kind of service that when you want into a place and you see that it makes you want to turn around and leave. She not only treated us that way, but we watched her treat every party she sat like that. Other than that, the food was amazing and our waiter was good. read more

Ralph and Kacoo's has always been a special treat for us as we live in NE Texas and it is about an hour drive. This past Thursday myself and 2 neighbors drove to the Bossier location to treat ourselves as two of us were celebrating our birthdays. I MUST ADD THAT I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SERVICE AND FOOD. I ordered 2 dozen oysters for us, One dozen of oysters on the half shell and one dozen of the Oysters Kacoo. The oysters on the half shell were not only "muddy" but about half of them were not shucked. My main meal was the Ralphs platter and I asked the waitress (KALANDRA) twice if a soft shell crab was included with the platter. She informed me both times that soft shell crab WAS included. When the platter arrived there was no soft shell crab on the platter. Then she proceeded to tell me the stuffed crab was what they now called the soft shell crab. After informing her that the stuffed crab is not a soft shell crab..........she then rather rudely argued with me about it. In addition, I had requested twice for a second napkin. She acted as if I were asking for something unreasonable. Two of us had ice tea and the glasses were empty most of the time during the meal. We had to request for her to fill our glasses several times. The third person ordered a Sprite soft drink............Kalandra had filled the glass with water. The poor quality of the oysters and the rude service from our waitress has left me with a very sour feeling of returning for a meal. Not what we had experienced on our previous visits. If we do return, and find that Kalandra is the waitress, we will leave. She had a poor attitude and delivered sub par service. So sorry to have had visited your restaurant as it is an hour drive to and from our homes. We started off with the crab dip which was amazing!! I would get it again. Also LOVED the garlic rolls. Then, I went with our waitress' recommendation, the Cocodrie which came with 3 fish filets (one blackened, one grilled, and one fried with crawfish etouffee served over rice. So good! My husband had the shrimp trawler. Everything was so tasty- we couldn't even finish these large meals! Used to be one of my favorite places in Louisiana anytime I visited The service at this location started off very slow, but gradually picked up The quality of the food is not what it used to be Many of the ingredients were frozen, not fresh The mixed vegetables were obviously from frozen and laying in half a bowl of butter. Visited the Bossier location today. We ordered 1/2 doz Oysters Rockefeller. Little disappointed in their size, this is March after all, still another month in the season. I wasn't expecting Chincoteague but better Oysters in season none the less. I had the large order of Seafood Gumbo, the roux was dark and had a good flavor but could not detect crab meat it was advertised with, there was a good amount of shrimp. My wife got the blackened chicken primavera, portion was large. She was barely able to eat half the plate just due to appetite. My apprehesion is with there being a lot of google results touting Ralph & Kacoo's offering a happy hour from 4 - 6pm Mon - Fri. We arrived around 4:45 and ordered a tall local IPA and a tall Amber beer. They turned out to be $9 and $16, both were drafts which the Google results said were the happy hour specials. It was my fault for not asking when we were seated in the main dining area, further research suggests the happy pricing is only available in bar area. The hostest today 3/16/26 was very disengaged when greeting us and finding our seat. I would expect that arriving to an establishment during a happy hour timeline, they would ask if we were there for happy hour or not in addition to how many in our party. Bill was $80.13, left the server $16. The issues were not his fault. Given the other establishments in the Bossier/Shreveport area offering similar fair, we won't be returning back to Ralph & Kacoo's. read more

There is a R and K in Lufkin that I used to frequent when I lived in east Texas. Restaurant was well lit despite all the dark colors. The booths were all clean and it smelled clean. And the food? The food was fantastic. Then there's the r and k in Shreveport. It's in the corner of an old strip mall, and has been here for decades. Which is fine and all but man, is it in need of a facelift. All the way around. Was greeted and said I was going to sit at the bar. They have a large bar area, but if you sit at the bar you have only one angle to watch a TV. And when eating solo TV is essential. At least for me. Bartender was great. Polite, accommodating, and checked on me multiple times. The food isn't the same. And maybe it's not a fair comparison. I'm using my experience from 15 years ago in a completely different town. The steak while good flavor was way overcooked. But at that point I didn't want to wait for another steak. I also hate food waste. Don't want to toss it because of me being picky. The Cajun potatoes was good, but very dry. Not how I remember that as well. Just overall it's dark, very dated, and needs some attention to bring it up to a nice restaurant. I know they have the capacity, use Lufkin for a reference. We have been coming here for many years for my birthday dinner. It's an hour drive one-way. The food and service used to be top-notch but it has really gone down. Our server was nice but kind of scatter brained but the food was just not great. The bread used to be so good but this time it had garlic butter on top which would have been ok but it was not edible. It was like it had been warmed up in a microwave and was so touch I could barely cut it with a knife. Food was not very hot and just didn't have a lot of flavor. Normally it is very busy this time of year but the restaurant was not crowded. They have changed up the menu and a lot of the old favorites are no longer served. Server never said thank you when she brought our credit card back- after being gone with it several minutes. She was talking to the table behind us and just set it down on the table. I remember when the servers were all dressed in black pants and white shirts and were very professional. I am sorry to say we won't be back next year. read more

Anyway, we came in on a Sunday with a fairly large group. I'm pretty sure everyone was ok with the taste of their food. I ordered grilled fish with mango salsa and my server had no idea it was on the menu. I saw it advertised on facebook and wanted to try it. It was pretty good. To end the meal we ordered beignets for the whole group and those were delicious! Almost comparable to Cafe' Du Monde! If I remember correctly they were playing Cajun Music in the background, so there's that. They were able to accommodate our large group with ample seating and the servers kept up with us quite well. A manager came never apologize or sorry just began to check us out and charge for drinks and an appetizer. The place was fairly empty when I visited but the write ups were good hence why I wanted to try the restaurant. It was also close to my hotel. The service was okay. Didn't get water brought to the table which is standard for waitstaff. Good menu selection ni had the fried fish. Portion was large so good value for your money. The let do was, there wasn't a flavour punch. Regular flavours and was expecting more from a southern restaurant. Recommend for family on a budget but if you are looking for southern flavours maybe look elsewhere. I did only try one dish so perhaps other menu items provide more flavours. read more

We drive two hours to eat at Ralph and Kacoo's! Our family has eaten there for many years. The food is consistently superb. We always start with raw oysters. Yummy! I had the Ruby yesterday and hubs had the seafood gumbo. Both were excellent! We will visit again soon read more
