I vomited for approximately 2.5 hours after eating here. I made it to my car and immediately was throwing up. They charged me 3 times the price shown on their menus. I ordered baked catfish with crab on top, gumbo, and étouffée. It arrived looking extremely bizarre. I grew up having family friends cook my Cajun and creole foods on the bayou where you needed a boat to reach their house... I know what the food is supposed to taste like. I am not sure why they claim to know how to cook what they are advertising. It tastes awful. The waitresses were in the corner of the room talking about stealing knives, shouting "white power" and about racism.... Please do not go here or you will get violently ill. I was also throwing up the next day... did I mention all the buildings around it as well as half of its' buildings are condemned? Very unsafe area. Terrible ambiance.

The atmosphere is cool. You feel like you stepped back in time. Service was exceptional. Food was great. It was a fun stop.

What an authentic step back in time! It's a little like you just stepped into a time capsule! If you can tolerate an old building smell, this place is worth the stop!!! I'm a catfish snob, I have to say this place batter was spot on! Fresh fish, that did not even need a lemon ta'boot! That TARTER, well, let's just say, I dunked my fish, fries & the fluffy breaded onion ring in it!! Well seasoned with fresh onions & herbs!! Mmm mmm... Now I'm not gonna hold back, when some place has bread pudding, it's a guaranteed order for this girl. Whew it was beyond sweet, with that toasty white chocolate icing that had been carefully caramelized by the oven, I could not even finish it!!! The staff was quick, my order accurate and on point!

Food was good, service was great. I liked the ambiance was surprising, not quite what I had in mind but looked like it could be a fun place with the right people

Came from PA for this place and worth it! Beyond incredible food and service! Highly recommend the onion rings and popcorn shrimp! Got the catfish dinner, shrimp poboy and cheeseburger! Go with friends and family so you can sample everyone's meal! All of it is cooked to perfection and portions are excellent! You want authentic Cajun food this is the place! Certainly a time capsule on the inside which makes it extra special and kept the authenticity! Staff went above and beyond, so polite! Checked on us a lot especially for refills of the sweet tea which you'll wanna get! Loved everything about this place! Will certainly come back on my next trip!

This is a restaurant/bar that has been open since the 1930's and still doesn't disappoint. The service is amazing and the food even better.

    Half shrimp poboy and gumbo!

Fun little hole in the wall ! The wait staff was friendly and fast . I would definitely recommend to run by this fun little place .

    Great gumbo.

First off we go here a good bit especially if in Shreveport. Love this place and how long it's been there. Food years ago was AWESOME but it has gone downhill the last few years. It's hit or miss. Last night the food was the worst I have had there and I've been going for 20 years. Gumbo and Shrimp Buster was tasteless. Went with friends who go a lot and it was unanimous. BAD. I'm not sure who is running it now but hope they get a handle on it. Service was good but food just not up to standard. Will we go back. Yes, as we love the place. Just hope it's better.

There is really nothing spectacular here - except history and service. Service is outta this world friendly and helpful. The food is good, and the history is rich and beautiful. This is a place that would drive the restaurant make-over crowd crazy - old, a bit dark, lots of old knick-knacks and nostalgia. And a really small dining room (they also have an outdoor seating area). The kind of place they'd say was dirty and depressing. But is not dirty and it is not depressing!! Regardless of what you think about the space, the service cannot be beat. The food is good - mostly. Our fries were a bit cold, onion rings a bit greasy, but the oyster and shrimp po-boy and shrimp buster were perfect! You owe it to yourself to taste and experience this piece of history!

Etouffe was watery, had no vegetables, no flavor and old black crawfish. Will never come back

I attended with a local friend and he confirmed this is authentic. The experience: Friendly staff, a long restaurant with a bar section, followed by the condiments section, followed by a whole other bar somehow? I didn't poke my head back there but I found that intriguing. More on the condiments: They come with any sandwich. I probably took unfair advantage by taking enough lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to make an entire salad. I then asked for dressing, which they happily provided at no charge. And sandwiches? Do get. Delicious bread. The default bread appears to be the French - you could opt for their sourdough if you like - and it's not toasted. I love soft bread, and the po' boy was divine as a result. I loved the boudin. I loved that they have alligator sausage in multiple places on the menu. I loved everything about this place except the fact that summer means just about all of the beers were light, and I had to hunt and peck to find beers more my style. Which I did. And maybe those beers are lingering as I type this review. But BeauxJax gave me the warm, fuzzy, welcoming feeling I love in a restaurant. A great stop in Bossier. Worth a detour from Shreveport. Legitimate Cajun.

The menu was interesting, with several Cajun-themed choices, as you would imagine. Nothing blew our socks off on the menu, but we appreciated the local brew selection. Let me say you better come with your appetite. Or you're going home with leftovers. I wanted a po-boy, shrimp n crawfish. It wasn't in the menu but waitress made it happen. That's a good waitress. When the platter showed up, it had a po-boy loaded, LOADED, with shrimp and tails. So many that they fell on ver into the FFs. Everything was excellent. Big shrimp. Lots of tails. An excellent tartar sauce. The FFs were some of the best I've ever had. I asked for crispy - they were perfect. I had so much left over the wife and I had it for dinner. When I got home, I told my daughter in law, who's from Shreveport, and she said Sam's is the best. She's right. Can't wait to try other offerings.

The process here (at least when we went) is order at the counter, get seated and then the food is delivered to you. So, service is kind of lacking due to no real waiter/waitress.
