I left a review 12 years ago with 5 stars. I've taken one star off because times have changed. Usually only one cashier line is open. I use self-checkout which often has a wait these days. The store has minimal customers. Prices are high, so I rely on their great membership deals. What I do love most about Raley's are the employees. Great people! Years ago I really liked Raley's but in recent years they have really let the store go. The prices are higher than most places which I could forgive if they had nice talented cashiers. Unfortunately the people are mostly kids that would rather be anywhere else and you can hear it in their voices as they are ringing you up. I could even forgive this as I know how hard it is to find good people in the current job pool. What I cannot forgive is all the rotten and long expired food. I have been tracking this over my last 3 visits and have found the same moldy tortillas, the same rotting meat that is growing more mold daily. Every Raisin Rice Pudding that I checked was expired by at least 2 weeks with some of them being expired by 6 weeks. This goes back to the staff that is hired. Nobody cares anymore, so the jobs that used to be done are ignored. For now, I am switching to Trader Joe's and Lucky. Maybe I will try again in a few months and see if anything has changed. If I could give zero stars I would. A man that worked here scared my children while we were in the car and it's one of my kids birthday! We were getting balloons and in the loading zone, did not park-- we were loading balloons- less than 5 minuets and this guy comes out yelling that we can't park there. When I told him we were getting balloons for my son's birthday and we would be leaving very quickly he sneered at me and gave such intense attitude. We will be going a different place for all birthday balloons and necessities. It's a yellow loading zone and we didn't even leave the car. So unnecessary to actually yell at someone for that and scare kids. read more

***WARNING - Shop At Your Own Risk*** Check expiration dates before buying. The salads I wanted were all expired, even going 5 back in the row. The Clover milk expired in 2 days WTH!! And to top it off, we got a loaf of sliced bread, and it was obvious rats got to it. Hole in corner of bag and chuck of bread missing, little teeth marks visible. Raleys, Nob Hill, and Ralph's, all seem to be the same vendor. Lol I really like their wide variety of different groceries and products from different companies. They also have a unique bakery and fresh seafood area that I appreciate since I have a handful of food allergies. When we first moved to Petaluma, we started going to Raley's because of its convenience but we soon met Mrs. Carrie and continued to go so we could see her. My son, now 4, loves her so very much. So, we chose this location of Raley's even when their sales weren't as good as neighboring stores, we stayed as prices crept up and we stayed after our schedule no longer lined up with our favorite employee. I prefer the self checkout with small children for so many reasons- as I know a lot of other people do. The registers always seem to freeze up but we would just wait patiently for someone to come help us- no big deal. Today, however, when I was checking out (9:50am) and the register froze up, I encountered the most rude employee I believe I have ever met at a grocery store. I don't know her name but she has assured that we will now be shopping anywhere but this location. The real kicker is, I never even spoke a word to her- not one word. Whomever she is (I included the time so you can see who put in their ID number of you care to know) has an incredible problem with self check out registers, and apparently, the people that use them. Perhaps you should focus on finding employees that are loyal to customer service before you lose all your loyal customers. There are too many grocery stores in a small area to pay money and be disrespected with rudeness. read more

I've never been too impressed with this store from when it first opened to the present due to not really being able to find items, find someone to point me in the right direction of what I'm looking for as well as the service I've received. Guess this is probably why I only go in here if I absolutely have to. Well last month I decided to stop in here on my way home from work. I was walking past the department that has premade food that you can get a pint of fried rice, sweet & sour pork, etc. and noticed they had a veggie roll type item so I grabbed that then headed to the deli department and was immediately helped with my selection of sliced black forest ham. The counter person asked if I needed anything else to which I responded "No thanks as I'm going right over there to order a cake." So I sauntered over to the bakery department which was right next to the deli department. I looked at what they had out to get some ideas as to what they had to offer. I waited a bit, saw a young woman working behind the counter so I said "excuse me, can I get some help?" She ignored me or maybe didn't hear me. I said it louder with no response from her. Then the woman who helped me in the deli came to the bakery department talked to the bakery counter person then walked away. The bakery employee looked up a few times but never acknowledge I was there. I tried one more time saying very loudly "excuse me, can I get some help with ordering a cake?" and yet still non response. I mean I am practically shouting to get this person to acknowledge me & instead I'm being completely ignored. I took the 2 items I already had and went up to the check stand. The person at the check stand asked if I found everything I needed, I said no and explained what happened. She then said she would let her manager know what happened and asked if I wanted her to contact the bakery department. I said no thanks, I'm taking my birthday cake order to Safeway and off I went. I worked retail for a long time and I can honestly say that retail, grocery stores, just customer service in general doesn't seem to exist anymore and it shows every time I go into Raley's with the exception of the grocery store clerk that I encountered, she was very polite & courteous. read more

This is a review of the Pharmacy: I've been required to use various Pharmacies over my lifetime depending on where I live or the ability to get prescriptions filled consistently. Most of these pharmacies have proven to be pretty solid and fairly consistent. But the one pharmacy that's the closest to my childhood pharmacy (Larks/Rexall) where the staff is head & shoulders above the rest, taking the time to get to know your name, talking to you (not at you) with a genuine interest and they provide highly professional, competent and courteous service based on your medication needs is Raley's Petaluma Pharmacy. It's still like the old family pharmacy. I never have to wait longer than a few minutes in line as the staff is so attentive to all the customers. They use technology (texts/emails) so I know exactly when my Rx has arrived, the cost and the process is always easy when it comes to insurance. I don't believe the Pharmacy staff gets nearly the appreciation they deserve especially when they have to deal with circumstances way beyond their control (like supply chain issues) and/or customers who fail to show any common courtesy or understanding when it's their doctor's office that made a mistake and not the pharmacy staff. I couldn't recommend Raley's Pharmacy any higher than 5 stars but they've earned 10 in my book. read more

Raley's has been my go-to store for daily shopping for years, and it's next to Trader Joes. Perfect. The customer service is on a high bar. They have a friendly, well-managed team who are always pleasant and accommodating. It's a tightly run ship. The lines are short, and the prices aren't bad. Depending on whether or not it's peak-time, generally it's not a stressfest getting in and out, as opposed to how Safeway can be. It's a clean store, and most of ALL, I appreciate their employees, their team and it's management. When a line is getting even slightly long, they are on top of it for the customers. That level of conscientiousness is nice. All they need now is a new coffee machine at their Pete's! That's about all I can think of. Otherwise World class, friendly and kind service which is very appreciated! (FYI: Re: The review below me from July. Every employee & checker are masked. Man, this place has gone downhill. Typically it's just one cashier on in evening (this was a Wednesday night). The self check outs malfunction constantly (three times in a row now). Super slow. Nobody to ask a question of. I just shop for stuff I can't get in Trader Joe's now. Toiletry items are insanely priced (like 30 or 40% more than any other store) and ditto for many of the spices - a small little chili powder was $28 (from some place in San Fran but still). If you want balloons inflated, you'll have to go on safari to find someone. I dislike this store intensely and have no idea how they stay in business. Poorly staffed and ludicrously overpriced in places. Writing this during my ten minutes in line after 2 self service machines malfunctioned one after other. Nobody about to ask. Lotto machine malfunctioned on way out. Nobody about to ask either. But hey, they are the only place in the lot that has canned pineapple and Barry's tea so there's that?! read more

This store is 100% the cleanest store I have been in to during the pandemic to get groceries! They are taking every precaution necessary. There was an issue with one of our items and the manager did such a great job at making things right and was very polite and helpful. I really love shopping at Raley's in Petaluma. The store is clean, the workers go out of their way to be helpful. I recently had a misunderstanding with a receipt which I didn't have. They made a copy of the receipt and texted it to me. This was done all within a 1/2 via phone. Problem solved! I've switched shopping at Safeway to Raley's and of course Trader Joe's is right there, so those are the only stores I shop at now. read more

I'm a loyal Raley's customer and have been since the Petaluma store opened. While the produce department has always been the saddest Raley's produce I've ever seen, I have remained loyal. Today, however, I have to speak up. I'm one of those customers who will bag my own groceries if no bagger is available. I'm just standing there anyway, so it's not a big deal. Today's checker just watched me when he was done ringing me up, then proceeded to watch me load all of those bags into my cart. I had six, so he had plenty of opportunity. He didn't even try to help or offer assistance. My complaint is not necessarily with the checker. It's with management who hires these young adults and then doesn't train them properly! Most checkers thank me for helping them out but this young man just stood there watching. Come on, managers! Help your new employees to be successful! They are the face of your business, and your customers should feel appreciated. (Please note that this is not my usual experience at this store, so maybe that's why it bugged me so much.) read more

We are a travel family living in the area for work! After reading several reviews from several stores it was the review about Dustin that caught my attention! We like good quality meat and seafood and we want someone who is knowledgeable! Dustin is all of that and more! My girls love to see him! He gives them a cookie every time we come in! We pass several other grocery stores but because of Dustin we will continue to come back! He also knows where EVERYTHING IN THE STORE IS!!!! He helped my husband out one day when I couldn't go and made it a breeze for my husband! Dustin holds a special place in our hearts and I hope they know how great of an employee he is!! When Raley's first open back in 09', it was grand in size and offerings with an impressive store under the GreenChill EPA partnership umbrella to protect the earth's ozone layer and climate. Even with newer markets like Sprouts not far from this McDowell location, Raley's still offer a refreshing like atmosphere whenever I stop in to shop. The floor plan, the lighting, it is above and beyond the competitions. Wide variety of selections, brand names and organics at fair prices. Look for their flyer specials. However, I can't say the same for the staff here like the cashier and bagger generally socializing while customers are trying to pay and go. Maybe that explain the slow moving lines when busy and returning items is a pain unlike Sprouts or Safeway. Not that I return things out of habit but be prepare to be interrogated somewhat. Paradise are much worst at it or i should say 'were' as they have since been acquired by Nugget. If something don't taste right, I will return it. Even with such a large parking structure at the Visitors' Center, it will likely be pack with cars during the day as they are likely taken by consumers from other stores nearby like Trader Joe's, Ross and Big 5 among others where I had to park near McDonald's just to shop here once. Raley's do offer many alternatives to wheat ranging from cookies to frozen items along with many low GI choices but personally don't care much for the Fifty 50 products. I've shopped at most other grocery stores in Petaluma, RP and SR, but haven't shopped at Raleys. Recently I left early one morning to go the grocery store next door and it was still closed. I decided to go to Raleys for essentials and wow. I'm glad I did! The store was well organized, had a easy shop flow and it wasn't crowded being it was so early. Also the aisles are wide so it ensured me a sense of social distancing. I saw by the meat counter that I can bring in knives from home for free sharpening. A few days later I was back, knife in hand. Dustin took care of me and was effective and friendly. Really answered my questions and was pleasant and high energy with all his customers. Having been a manager myself I appreciated his professionalism and work ethic. Raleys, this guy knows how to represent! Give him a weekend away in Tahoe! The employees at this store work hard at keeping product on the shelves yet are never too busy to stop and help the customers! I am handicapped and have a hard time reaching items in the top shelves. If Dustin in the meat dept is working he always stops and helps me. Carlita always checks on me to make sure I'm doing ok in other parts of the store. The checkers are all great. My complaint isn't in regards to the products/quality of food here, in fact, this location has a decent selection of high quality food... HOWEVER my last two experiences with customer service have been appallingly rude and I won't come back ever again. Before this location hired new customer service people (i'm looking at you two college aged gossip girls), all of my experiences have been nothing but pleasant. Old staff? Amazing 5/5 stars. While we were at Trader Joe's we figure we'd hop next door. The store is clean, pretty well stocked but the store is so big and some items are hard to find. Produce was pretty well stocked and we were helped by a young man who was very kind. Meat department was well stocked and we were helped at the meat counter by Dustin. Very kind and helpful as well. Here is where it fell apart. We were looking for help and one young ladies walked past us as I was attempting to stop her she looked at me and kept walking. Not the customer service I was expecting. My husband noticed that ever employees we saw looked sad or exhausted.As we checked out the young cashier was sweet and quick. Our bags were packed by Eric very sweet young man. Unfortunately while we looked around the front employees looked sad. Not sure I will be back. We love the feeling we get when we walk into TJ and we were hoping we'd get the same warm feeling from Raley's but we were sadly disappointed. read more

Wow. I would have given this four stars but to the poster who said there is nothing special there ... were we in the same store? They have a FANTASTIC cheese counter with wheels from quality local cheesemongers such as Cypress Grove and Spring Hill. They there are some great imported selections as well. Angelo's (from Sonoma) sauces, Kowsloski's Pies, and many many other local vendors that you won't find all in one store. They have a WONDERFUL Italian antipasti section with long yellow banana peppers stuffed with prosciutto and Parmesan, round cherry peppers stuffed with prosciutto and provolone, excellent artichokes, crunchy pickled garlic with olives and sun dried tomatoes and a highly recommended peppadew that is both and spicy. The butcher counter is above average. meat. It is nice there are samples around the story. I am a long time Raley's customer, so If Petaluma is your first experience, even though this is a chain, it is a family-run chain. They close down on some holidays like Christmas so their employees have time off. Their customer service is exemplary. I have watched them help an older gentleman who got confused. They called his family and had someone keep him entertained until the daughter showed up. I got sick once and the care and the concern and help was wonderful, even down to offering to have someone drive me home. They not only provide motorized carts for the handi-capped, but they have enough so people don't have to wait and those carts are in good condition. There's a lot smaller things that Raley's does. The Petaluma store is their first all green store. So that care extends to the environment. Pick up a copy of the complimentary magazine "Something Extra" for April/May/June for more info about the Petalum store. This is an excellent magazine for recipes with beautiful pictures. All recipes are also on the Raley's website.
