    Outside of the building

I guess having restaurants inside of gas stations is a thing now, and seems to be the trend with every new gas station/convenience store combo opening up in the area. After weeks of driving past, I finally had the time to stop in and give this place a try. Inside the building was spacious and clean, there were many food, drink, and snack options in addition to a dedicated fast food chicken counter. On this particular day they were out of everything except chicken tenders so I ordered a 3 piece meal which came with a biscuit and a side. I asked the person taking my order what their favorite side was and she responded with "I don't eat anything except the fries" but the person cooking the food in the back chimed in and very excitedly told me about his favorites and made some recommendations so, based on his suggestion, I went with the mac and cheese. After taking my order, I was handed a slip and told to bring it to the cashier of the gas station to be rung out and then went back to the other counter to pick up my order. I was disappointed that they were also out of their "homemade ranch" dipping sauce but was offered other options so I went with the BBQ sauce instead. The chicken was tasty and well seasoned, it had some heat to it which was a nice surprise. The mac and cheese was okay but the biscuit was the best thing in the box; flaky, buttery, and lip-smacking good. I'm planning on returning at some point in the future to try their chicken sandwich and their homemade ranch dressing.

I visited this location on a Friday night around 6:30p... so naturally it was swamped. After just a couple minutes, I was near where the line begins to split in two. They have staff that come to your window with a tablet and take your order. I observed this so quickly tried to Google the menu so I'd be ready, but I wasn't. The girl who took my order was very polite about this and had me pull up to not hold up the line and ran back up to complete my order. She was very polite and patient. They take card payments on the tablets but I paid cash. Once I got near the pickup window I saw other staff, "runners" who collect your name and cash payment (if needed) and bring back your food and change. This kid was also polite and quick. I wanted to tip him but once he dropped off my stuff he was like a lightening bolt helping someone else. The whole process was super quick, definitely less time than I ever expected and BY FAR beats out any other fast food chain in the efficiency department. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, a small waffle fries, a small Mac and cheese, and a vanilla shake. Everything was awesome. The chicken could've been a little crispier but was way better quality than other fast food joints. Mac and cheese was really good and the shake was perfect. Fries also good. I was so impressed with how they nailed my order, did it courteously and quickly. I will definitely go back.

That being said, I have a major issue with the new portion sizes. It seems like since they started offering the one pound of meat (pre cooked weight) sandwiches, the regular sandwiches are far far more bread than actual sandwich contents and for the prices this really sucks. The service at this location also seems to have taken a nose dive. Let me say this.... attn D'Angelos corporate bosses. There is no shame in having employees write stuff down! When I order large ham & cheese with lettuce and oil & vinegar and you ask me 3 times after starting the sandwich what was going on it again you don't give me much faith in your ability to make a sandwich. Please just start writing the orders down just like when someone calls in an order. Lastly, the ambiance of this specific location is poor at best. The dining room looks like a dump and in the short time I was there today a worker walked through the kitchen, into the dining room and out the front door with a bag of trash which I'm pretty sure is agains the health department rules. Come on D'Angelos, you used to put Subway to shame and now it's sadly a close race. This last thing is just me being curious and may not be a slight on D'Angelos, but who in their right mind goes into this shop and orders a $65 lobster roll combo?!? Thanks for reading.
