I saw it initially when I took a…read morebicycle cab right by it one evening, and I could not help but notice the old movie posters in the windows- like spaghetti mexican westerns, and I thought it was open, so I walked by the next night just to see what the deal was with this place, for I really wanted to go and look inside and maybe check out one of those old movies. I wanted to do this pretty badly...but alas it was all locked up and looked pretty desolate. I wonder if it is ever open, or if someone would buy it, or if there are plans to do this at some point in the near future because it is a neat place. I see no other reviews for this place, so I am just curious. Interesting note- there was a stature of venus on what looked like a stack of pancakes inside. I love old places like this. I hope it gets preserved.

This would always take place after we picked up 3 brown paper shopping bags full of day old bread which she would in turn divide amongst our ever growing family. I miss the beautiful architecture inside and believe it or not the bathrooms were so elegant. I would go even if I didn't have to just to feel like a princess! I now live 50 miles northe of San Antonio but my husband and I who are now emty nesters will be visiting all the theatres in San Antonio this coming summer. Every now and again I would see someone come out and 'push' the crowds against the wall in order to keep order but after awhile, my group and I noticed a lot of local kids making their way to other kids they knew who were already in line ahead of us. I literally saw one teen put his hands together as if to pray to his friend and then I heard him say, "Please????" She looked at him and said, "I don't know." He and his friends continued to look at her longingly and then he practically begged her to let him and his group jump the line. She eventually caved and there he stood with at least three of his friends. Those three friends eventually grew to more friends. The last count I had was about 16 kids had line jumped ahead of me and my group and everyone else that was behind us. Yet no one said anything. I bit my tongue because I knew I was out of my element in this town. Too many local teens (and even a couple of adults!!!) knew each other and allowed their friends to cut in line. I eventually did speak up because I barrelled my way through to the front of the line when the doors opened. Some kid made a smart @ss remark about cutting and I went off on him. I told him and his friends that in order to SAY something about cutting, you first have to be one of the honest people who ACTUALLY WAITED in line. I love the look on his and his friends' faces when I said that too. Everyone in the theater got quiet. It was just a very disappointing evening to start - it was already a really hot evening and having to wait outside in the heat, deal with line jumpers, and watch other locals drive by the theater as if it was Military Drive in the early 90s was irritating enough. The employees are sweet as pie but the whole crowd control thing really needs to be nipped in the bud.

The city moves the Movies by Moonlight events around downtown, so be sure to check the website for start times and locations. They used to have the events at Hemisfair Park, but they've (temporarily) moved it to Travis Park during construction at Hemisfair. The movies are shown weekly during the summer months only. All of the movies are family friendly, and rated PG or lower. They always have food trucks and vendors out, selling stuff to go with your movie, so you don't really need to bring your own food, but you can! It's a great place to bring a chair or blanket, and lounge out under the stars to watch a movie for free!

This event has always stood out from other light shows because of its Winter Wonderland, but even that felt unchanged. The games were identical to previous years. This year, I purchased the Santa package, which included two game wristbands, two ornaments, and a photo with Santa, but overall the experience did not feel worth it due to the lack of new attractions.

Pets are welcome in your car but not at the winter wonderland area.

This is a world apart from the Tobin. Wifey and I saw small production play and thoroughly enjoyed the venue. Note that Tobin Center garage is not available and that you cannot reserve parking in advance. Thus, you can park "live" at the nearby Tobin surface parking lot or use your phone app to find parking within a 5-minute walk. The entrance to Carlos Álvarez Studio Theater is to the left of the Tobin's main entrance. There is no "lobby", hence then name "studio theater". You can take stair or elevator a short flight up. There is small fully stocked bar. For the play, there were riser seats and perhaps 300 people in the venue. It was comfy, fun, and intimate.

Look at that biscuit sandwich with the egg on top. So good. The empanadas from Mxicanna Café were my favorite for a while. The crust was perfect and the filling meaty and slightly spicy. Southern Grit to Go provided a great mini meal with a pancake with egg and candied bacon, bread pudding, and shrimp atop grits. Hots Catering made something I had never seen. Thanksgiving in a collard green wrap with mac and cheese on the side. So good. But my ticket went to what I though=t was the best from Qulture. A lamb chop and a jumbo shrimp with grits and a dipping sauce. Both the lamb and shrimp were perfectly season and not overcooked. The line was so long I almost skipped this one. Plenty of parking nearby. I opted to park under the freeway to keep the truck shaded on a super-hot late September day. Only one recommendation. Please move the event to October or to an indoor venue. It was way too hot for both the contestants and the attendees.

**This is a Festival**…read more I attended the 2nd annual Brunchfest. I purchased my tickets about 3-4 months in advance which landed me at about $65 for a ticket for VIP. At the time I purchased my tickets, there wasn't really much on the website. Things were still getting finalized. Leading up to the event, I noticed that information was being shared on Instagram more so than the actual website. The website was not being updated, but the IG page was. Ticket prices increased to $75-$80 for VIP. Literally the night before the event, information was being sent out and instructions were being changed. It felt like a lot of disorganization leading up to the event. VIP were sent an email to arrive at 10:30 instead of 11 (when doors opened). Well, doors didn't open until about 11:10-11:15. First hour was supposed to be open bar, but then there were instructions about drink tickets that not everyone understood. There were 4 registers and only 2 bartenders. It was a bit of a mess at first. Very disorganized. Lot of angry people; especially where I was standing. The founder did his best to make things right by extending the open bar as people who were waiting in line at 10:30 didn't get in until 11:15-11:30. There were people cutting the line talking to bouncers like "Hey are you Rob? I was told to talk to Rob". And the founder was there basically telling everyone to have patience and get in line. Again, he did his best. What did go super well was the food. All the restaurants and caterers brought such delicious food and were well prepared. I really loved the food and vendor aspect. When people think brunch they want to drink. So the biggest issue was the bar and lack of staff. It felt like there were too many VIP tickets sold. The food didn't run out when I was there and I was able to get seconds if I wanted too. My goal was to try all the food and thankfully I was successful. But the ticket price for the small bites didn't feel worth it. Since this is such a new event, I think it has so much room for potential! I think it will get better in the coming years. All the mistakes that were made this year will hopefully be fixed or improved upon for next year. Hopefully they get more organized. Regarding the ticket price: again, I paid $65 and even then I thought that was a bit too high. I wouldn't pay over $65 for a ticket; even if it's VIP. So if you plan on going buy your ticket early. I think tickets should be $30-$45 a person, but not much more than that.
