I've swung by Flix with my dad a few times to catch some movies. It's honestly worth the admission price. The screens are always nice, and I think their food isn't too shabby, but the seller for me is always their brewed-in-house beer. While catching a screening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I drank their Dark Mexican lager they had on tap. It was so good I went for a second pour. I find it cool that outside their Core Four, the brewers have the creative freedom to make whatever their heart desires at the brewery. That rocks. They said they would get us a voucher and we received nothing. Paying for a comfortable experience for a 3 hour movie and that not be fulfilled is frustrating. Friday night. Started strong with my partner in life over a plate of chicken wings that hit the spot like a roundhouse from Chuck Norris in a cowboy flick. After dinner, we looked at each other and said what any fun-loving couple would say--"Let's catch a flick." We landed a 10 PM showing of Bring Her Back. I'm a sucker for A24. They don't play it safe. No cookie-cutter garbage. They create stuff that sits with you, stews in your gut, and occasionally whispers to you when you're brushing your teeth three days later. But let's back up. We pulled in a whole hour early because, let's face it, where else should one be on a Friday night besides the bar top at Flix Brewhouse? Me? Two Nacho Libre's, no hesitation. The lady ordered the Lilo and Stitch Special--Experiment 626. Bartender took the liberty to remix it into an adult version, and you know what? Fair play. It was fantastic. Light, punchy, tropical. Just like her. Movie trailers rolled in before the feature, as always, perfectly tailored to the mood. Not your usual Hollywood noise. Flix curates. They get it. Halfway through the film, in the midst of cinematic madness, we locked eyes and had a moment of shared clarity. "Doughnut holes?" Doughnut holes, my friends. Came with strawberry and chocolate dipping sauce. What a closer. Sweet, rich, borderline sinful. This is a theater where you can get food served to you as well as beer made at their own brewhouse. It was neat to see all the beer stills on display outside and above the bar area. At your seat, you can either order through a QR code or with your server. They have free guest wifi too to help improve your ordering experience. I ordered a club soda and really liked that I could choose to have a lemon or lime with it on their ordering system. The seats recline but note they are a bit noisy when reclining and declining. I was able to sample a few of their own Hazy IPAs, Nebulas and Derezzed, and liked them both so much I took home crowlers of both to enjoy at home. On Fridays you can get 3 crowlers for just $20 and they have Happy Hour times Mon-Thurs (see photo for details). They had their space decorated for Halloween which I always like seeing. BUT i think what i disliked the most was if you order through the QR code you get charged a "hold charge" of an additional $5. as well as a voluntold gratuity charge, and still asks if you would like to tip. I think it would be nice if the servers/bartender would disclose that you will be charged $5 for using the QR code. Even though we only ordered an icee and popcorn. The popcorn was served cold. Good idea, decent food, but the mandatory gratuity hurts the experience School was canceled due to bad weather, so I took my daughter and girlfriend to a movie. Tickets (one adult, one military, one child) were about $37, which felt reasonable. The front of the theater is set up more like a bar and restaurant than a traditional movie theater. The bar looked well stocked with happy hour specials, but there wasn't much direction on where to go or who to check in with. We stood there a bit confused before approaching the bartender, who was polite and pointed us in the right direction. The theater itself was spacious and comfortable. Reclining seats with tables at every chair made it feel more upscale than a standard theater. The seats were fairly comfortable, though lacking lumbar support when reclined, and they were a bit noisy when adjusting. The table setup felt a little awkward for kids, but overall it worked. The biggest issue was the service model. A server came by and immediately told us there was an automatic 18% "gratuity" added to the bill. That's not gratuity -- it's a service fee -- and being forced to tip before any service is provided really set the tone. Actual service was minimal. We placed our order online, food was delivered by kitchen staff, and the server only checked on us once. No one offered refills (fountain drinks were $6), and there was no follow-up after the food arrived. Ironically, the mandatory tip discouraged me from tipping more, even though I normally would have. I also wish there were more transparency about where that money actually goes. The food was decent but overpriced. I had a burger with fries ($16.95) that tasted good, though assembling it in a dark theater wasn't ideal since toppings were served on the side. The popcorn was surprisingly good. My daughter's kids pizza ($9.95) was solid and the free kids drink lasted most of the movie. My girlfriend didn't enjoy the orange chicken ($15.95). The cheese curds ($7, happy hour price) were very good. Food and drinks came out to $80.62 after tax and mandatory gratuity. Total cost for dinner and a movie for three was about $118. For that price, we could have eaten elsewhere and gone to a regular theater for significantly less -- and likely will next time. This wasn't a terrible experience. The concept is interesting and the theater itself is nice. But the forced gratuity, limited service, high prices, and lack of transparency make this more of a one-time novelty than a place I'd return to regularly. read more

How annoying! I go to the movies to relax and wind down. If this is your preference DO NOT GO TO FLIX!! From the beginning I ordered two drink and a popcorn, had to pay $9 gratuity for a girl to take 2 min and walk the popcorn and drinks to my seat. Asked for extra better, had NO butter but was super salty I literally dehydrated halfway thru the movie. Never asked for a refill but was asks FOUR times if I was ok on everything. I counted at least 12 servers walking up and down the aisles talking to customers the entire movie. WAY too much activity to watch the movie in peace without someone eventually walking in front of you or phones lighting up to pay too much talking drowned out the movie. It was really a horrible experience. I'll get my own drink that's not watered down with 2 ice cubes left floating on top and butter my own popcorn so I can sit in peace at SANTIKOS or AMC. read more

We love Flix!! It's one of our favorite date night spots. I remember when I first moved to San Antonio it was right before the pandemic. I would see the progress on Flix being built and I was so sad for them whenever everything shut down and it just sat there not being able to open. Fast forward years later! They brew their own beers and they are great! Lucha Libre is my favorite. The seats inside the theaters are so plush and comfy! It is always clean and the service has always been phenomenal. They also have a few other common beers on drafts as well. Every time we have come, they have some special cocktails that usually are pretty good as well. Seating is approx. 30 minutes before the movies actually starts which is nice because it gives you enough light and time to order your food with a server before they dim the lights. The main reason we love Flix Brewhouse is because of their menu. The food is AWESOME! Literally everything is so good. Made fresh, great flavor. The seats are also electric reclining. Excellent, excellent theatre!!! ALL of the chairs are comfy and reclining. They snug you up and help your stress just melt away. The food is great. Good selection. The drinks are plentiful and the beer is local. My favorite is the Luna Rosa! Soooo yummy and not too wheaty. The servers inside the theaters are super friendly and they do add an 18% gratuity that is shared with all servers, but it is worth it. You can opt out (I think that without reason that would be rude, but just my opinion) or add extra like I do if you feel the service was spectacular, which seems to always be my experience.
