I knew I wanted seafood or something similar. Right away it came to my mind. A fried fish would sound good right now. I headed to my favorite seafood market to get me a fried fish and some fried shrimp. The perfect combination. This place never disappoints the fish is always well seasoned and well cooked. I usually get 1 pound of shrimp with head on but today they didn't have it so I went with the headless shrimp. For 2 fried tilapia and 1 pound of shrimp the check came out too $24. You can't beat that. I highly recommend everyone to stop by and try it. If you're in the area, they also have other kinds of fish they can fry for you. Service is always great here.

This market is really really really a hole in the wall. Everything looks wrong in this place. It needs new paint, new floors, smells bad, looks bad but I haven't got sick yet so I'll keep on going back! Here's why I love this place. You go in, pick out what fish you want, give it to the dude behind the counter, he weights it, gives you a receipt, you go pay, in the mean time the dude is frying up your fish. It come out SOOO good! They season it up with god knows what (and i don't care) and throw some onion-cilantro stuff on it! It turns out beautifully! I always get the baby octopus, fried and talapia. Is the fish fresh? Who know! Who cares. My taste buds know what they like, and they like this place!

I usually place an order through their Instagram DMs a few weeks in advance for holidays. You can ask for their excel spreadsheet and they'll send it to you with prices and this same spreadsheet updates every year! There is also a little deposit for holiday pick up depending on the size of your order. Their sashimi platter is beautiful, fresh, delicious, and always a party favorite. I usually get: Salmon, Toro, Yellowtail, Scallops, and Oysters. If available, uni trays and fresh wasabi (which can also be picked up at HMart). Scallops are my favorite but every piece of fish is so good and cut perfectly. Parking and pick up is easy. It is a very small store front with one party inside at a time and pay at the counter. Didn't realize this, but they will prepare the items for you like take the abalone out of the shell and clean the geoduck for you so all I had to do was slice and eat. Saw them doing the same for some fish, which was cool. Be sure to tip them if they do prep for you. Prices seemed reasonable to high, but considering my favorites are difficult to find, price was really no object. I wish I didn't have such expensive taste or I'd be back weekly :). Plenty of parking but the plaza can get quite busy because all of the businesses and eateries located within. Market itself is well lit and I think just a smidge more organized than Island Pacific though it is a bit smaller. All of the uncs post outside and hang outside this market though. Chowking has an entrance into the market and of course it has it's hot deli section, seafood and butcher section, good amount of fresh produce and lots of imported Filipino foods, cooking goods, cosmetics, and other items. Cashiers are pretty friendly even with a slight language barrier and I've never had to wait too long every time I've shopped here. It's a bustling shopping center, so parking can be a real headache. think musical chairs, but with cars. Once inside, you'll notice the aisles are about as wide as a handshake! seriously, it's like playing bumper carts with your shopping cart. But, the star of the show is their fresh produce. So many tropical fruit-galore! You can get papaya, all sorts of bananas, jackfruit, basically a mini vacation for your taste buds. They've also got a fresh meat section, plus an Asian snacks corner that's like a treasure chest of goodies, perfect if you're hunting for that unique bite. And let me tell you, some of their offerings are downright wild; like chicken heads and legs you won't see anywhere else, plus packaged beef and pork blood!!! yep, blood in a grocery store! I'm not exactly sure what to do with it, but it sure is a conversation starter. And speaking of interesting finds, they've got all kinds of liver; beef, chicken, pork. I grabbed a few things, including some fresh fish, which they'll clean for you, though, if you want a full fillet, forget it. They'll just chop off the head and tail, maybe scale it, but no fancy filleting here. All in all, I'd give this place a three stars. It's not the cleanest spot, let's just say the whole store smells like a seafood market at low tide. And with only two cashiers, you might feel like you're aging in line. But if you're on the hunt for those rare ingredients and don't mind a little chaos, it's worth a visit!

(With a frown and clear doubt) He replied, "Bro, trust me, I used to come here with so and so and it was good.!" I said, "Really?, ok let's try this out." I was still full of speculation and hesitant. I then asked, "Where is this at? What street?" He replied "off Amar." I said "Amar?!" (That made it even worse...) LOL!!! For those of you who haven't ventured off into "No Man's land" of La Puente, Amar Rd., I will just say this ... you better know your street smarts. To my surprise we arrived and I said, "dude I have driven past this location many times" (I was still not impressed.) He said, "Bro, let me order, I got this!" I said ok. Since he knows I am a true die hard Yelper, I stood by and observed everything. To my surprise, the service was great. The fellas cooking definitely knew what they were doing and the food was very delicious and fresh. If you ever want to experience a fish market and restaurant that has a feel, sound and taste of Mexico. Then there is no need to drive 3 hours to the border. Just drive East, past the 605 Freeway or North 605 or wherever you're coming from... Just put it on your Navigation App. LOL!!! Just come with someone who knows true Mexican Costal Style Sea Food. You won't regret it. Just make sure your head is on a swivel in La Puente! LOL!!!

I can't believe I haven't written a review for Tokyo Central yet, though I've stopped by here…read moredozens of times - my go to is their sushi tray options! They have the BEST tasting salmon sushi/sashimi all around, at this price point, even better salmon quality compared to nearby sushi restaurants in my opinion. (Our Japanese native friend also agrees.) Best part is - 20% off after 7 pm!!!! But the trays get snatched up quickly. Too bad I'm not around the area at that time, otherwise I'd make Tokyo Central my weekly run for dinner. Their Kimchi Tako Poke is another regular we get, it's so good. However, recently, the only option I saw was the Shoyu Tako Poke - and I didn't like this version one bit - too hard and the flavor is not to my liking. Will never get it again. The hot food area has quite a decent selection, priced and weight by the pound, self-served. Often around 3-4pm, you may see 20% discounted packaged hot food placed out, whatever that's leftover from the lunch rush hour. Tried it a few times, but felt most of the food is heavily dosed in MSG, so I'd be selective on what I get. They also have sashimi party trays which require pre-order. Great pricing for the quality and convenience. Overall, love their sushi selection, and it's a regular stop for us. As for the market itself, there's not as much to buy, and pricing is on the higher end. However, they have a larger selection of some products that I can't find elsewhere, and sometimes their advertised specials are decently priced.

My favorite #3: their thick sliced bread (厚片土司) - each slice is about twice as thick as ordinary sliced break; very gratifying when they pop out of the toaster! They also have a huge selection of ready-made food from bento boxes to sushi. A great place for busy working people to get easy meal solutions!
