If you're into cooking fresh seafood at home, this is the place. I went for my favorite sashimi,…read morewhich is abalone and geoduck but they have a lot of other live options like fish, crab and lobster to prepare at home. Even frogs! Didn't realize this, but they will prepare the items for you like take the abalone out of the shell and clean the geoduck for you so all I had to do was slice and eat. Saw them doing the same for some fish, which was cool. Be sure to tip them if they do prep for you. Prices seemed reasonable to high, but considering my favorites are difficult to find, price was really no object. I wish I didn't have such expensive taste or I'd be back weekly :). Language is a bit of a barrier but can get by with pointing and basic English. Pro tip: ample parking in back or street parking right up front.

They also have shellfish and other live specialities like frogs. As far as service goes you pick the one you want and they get it from the tank for you. My go-to place for sashimi platters and fresh seafood pick up for family parties like Thanksgiving…read moreand Christmas! I usually place an order through their Instagram DMs a few weeks in advance for holidays. You can ask for their excel spreadsheet and they'll send it to you with prices and this same spreadsheet updates every year! There is also a little deposit for holiday pick up depending on the size of your order. Their sashimi platter is beautiful, fresh, delicious, and always a party favorite. I usually get: Salmon, Toro, Yellowtail, Scallops, and Oysters. If available, uni trays and fresh wasabi (which can also be picked up at HMart). Scallops are my favorite but every piece of fish is so good and cut perfectly. Parking and pick up is easy. It is a very small store front with one party inside at a time and pay at the counter. Highly recommend for party platters for fresh sashimi.

Prepped in a party tray with ice bags to go. 2.0 lb salmon: The cut had even lines of fat and meat. 1.5 lb tuna: Personally, I liked the tuna more than the salmon. It was so soft. Pretty much better than sugar fish's tuna. Ginger, wasabi and misc are purchase only.

I am no stranger to Thuan Phat El Monte Superstore. I have been here many times in previous years…read more It is a huge Asian supermarket comparable to other Asian supermarkets such as 99 Ranch, San Gabriel Superstore, GW or Great Wall Supermarket, etc. Free parking is plenty in the front and back of the store. There are individual merchandise and food vendors along the front inside of store. They carry many different international dry goods, perishable food items, fresh produce, meat and seafood, frozen items, and so much more. You can spend hours shopping here. Most recently, my Mom and I came to checkout the sugarcane juice vendor. We got ourselves one large cup with ice for $7. It is $12 if you want no ice. You have to pay more money if you want all juice. Sugarcane juice tasted refreshing and sweet. I would get it again with no ice next time. I may just bring my own ice or drink it as is.

The choices of sauces are endless and you better come knowing what you want. The produce section is large too. They don't accept cards under $ 10. Alexander's (in Howie's Market) has been our go-to for quality meats for the last ten years…read more Sometimes a Costco steak hits just fine, but sometimes you want that juicy, marbled American Wagyu and they have had it here without fail. It's not "fake" American wagyu that's barely prime grade either--the marbling is a perfect balance between the richness of Australian/Japanese wagyus and a regular prime. The staff here are generally friendly and very helpful, and work hard to get you what you want. The only issue I've had over the years was one of the older guys behind the counter charging us for something much more expensive than what we actually asked for, and we had to drive all the way back to get a refund. Not sure what the deal was since we ran into him when getting the refund and he seemed annoyed rather than apologetic lol. But! Aside from that, everyone's great. When they're busy, grab a number from the corner and they'll call. There's a great selection in the case of just about every type of meat including fresh seafood. Bought a slab of Icelandic cod today as well because it looked so nice. If you order a lot, they'll ring you up in the back, otherwise they'll let you bring it to the front checkout to pay.

For the meal, I also made some keto-friendly spaghetti that I tossed in butter, pasta water, and freshly grated Parmesan reggiano. The customer service with Chris was impeccable and they spend the time to answer questions. Honestly, I couldn't be happier.
