I initially mistook it for a children's store. I learned it was a boutique and checked it out. What a cute shop! The store is larger than comparable boutiques and more affordable. Plus they have a discount section! As I perused the shelves, an employee welcomed me. I informed her that it was my first visit and she enthusiastically told me about the shop. She then greeted other customers and answered their questions. I found two discounted tops I liked and tried them on in the fitting room. The first didn't fit, but the second one did. I purchased the second top and a hand towel as a gift. This store is an excellent place to purchase a gift. They offer a variety of high quality items. I asked what happened. He told me an unleashed aggressive dog was standing directly inside the entrance and loudly snarled and growled at him as he tried to enter the store. The female owner of the dog&store told him the dog was a "rescue" and that it didn't take a liking to men. I have documented allergies to dogs and also fear them for their unpredictable nature as what happened when he casually walked into the store. It's a shame because he probably would have bought me something warm to wear if the dog had not been there growling at him. Also, I only buy second hand from smoke&pet free homes/stores. *Message to management: I've never owned a clothing store, but I've worked at one. It's very important for customers to feel safe and welcomed when trying on clothes and window shopping. In what world is it considered civilized to have an unleashed, untrained and aggressive dog positioned at the head of the store? You are actively discriminating against men shopping at your store by bringing this dog to work. Men like to surprise their girlfriend or wife or mother with something nice to wear from time to time. If you don't have liability insurance for potential dog bites when a man enters your store it might be time to get some. Or, better yet, just install a modern security system and leave your aggressive dog at home or bring it to a shelter. You will be doing the city of Raleigh and it's citizens a favor.

I have shopped Belks my whole life in different cities, looking for good reductions in items to dress up my wardrobe, nice jewelry, and quality beddings and linens. The customer service was as excellent as the products they sell, A+. And then there is this store.... I cannot understand why this store only has 1-2 cashiers working in the store at a time. There have been several times I picked out several items to purchase but did not have another 30-45 minutes to wait in the long lines. I dropped the items I intended to buy ($75.00-$300) on a random rack and had to keep my appointments elsewhere. I end up buying similar items from other stores and online, and don't go back to that Belks for 6 months. I waited 40 minutes again today, and the people waiting with me were as frustrated and disgusted as I was. This store has no respect for their customers, our needs, and our busy schedules. If your cashiers can't quickly handle Clients' payments and questions, they need more training or be assigned other duties where they don't interact with the public as much. People trying to check out also shouldn't have to wait behind people making returns. Today I waited 42 minutes to get to a cashier to pay for my items, behind 5 other customers.

You can barely walk between the racks because of all of the clothes on the ground. There's several seasons' of clothes shoved into every available space. I can't believe it's not a fire hazard. What finally made me turn around and walk out is when I pulled a dress off a rack and the whole rack collapsed like a pile of toothpicks. Stores complain that people are shopping online? Well this is why.
