My previous review was a first impressions look at the food bank, and now that I have gone several times, I can say that I have some updated information on their treatment of those with disabilities. I have added one additional star bringing them to five stars in my book now that I have a good sense of how it works. Although it is not publicized, they do allow the people with disabilities to line up toward the front. You can sit in the cafeteria area and wait for the disabled line to start going through - there is no need to try and squeeze in with the rest of the people in the traditional line. On going through the line, often they will have someone to help you with your boxes or bags to a cart. Sometimes someone will be able to help you take your cart to your car. You can take a cart out to your car, and usually someone will be assigned to retrieve carts. Just start to take the cart back and someone should come and grab it from you so that you do not have to make the long walk to the food bank from the parking lot. As far as disabilities go, you still need to be able to walk from your car to the food bank, which is about a block and a half. If you can do that, they will help you as much as they can and let you go first in line. Please read my previous review to get a sense of the food bank itself for those who are new or thinking of going. This is an excellent food bank with really nice people and fast service. They often offer a lot of good produce that is in great shape in addition to their great normal selection of food and bread.

Now is the time to stock up on potatoes! You can go once a month for a bag of food, twice a week for produce, and twice a week for bread and bakery. The bag of food they gave me contained three types of frozen meat, a Haggen's sandwich (not expired), and pizza among many other staples. I really appreciate these folks who really stepped in to help me and my wife in times of financial strain when we cannot buy food. So thank you Help House for being an angel in a time of need.

They provide SO MUCH of the food basics, they help keep families, the disabled/handicapped and seniors from malnutrition and hunger on a regular basis. Local produce is delivered daily. The people are friendly and familiarize themselves with the regulars. This place speaks to the character of the citizens of Oak Harbor in a VERY special way!

The food is pretty good considering it's what most stores are throwing out I know what the people in back sift thru just to get the good stuff that they do. It's hard on them to get stuff that's good when they have lots of bad stuff to go thru and that's not all about of the time supply is the issue. They can't supply people with what they need if they don't receive it as a donation due to what little grants they receive. Helping hands deserves to get more I volunteer 6 days a week 7 to 8 hour days driving delivery and warehouse work. But could not get hired cuz they don't have the money to hire more people. That's why they rely on volunteers but they are hard to come by due to the many hours they are needed and the ton of work they are needed to do. It's a GREAT HELP TO SEDRO-WOOLLEY, MOUNT VERNON, BURLINGTON, AND OTHER LOCAL CITIES HERE IN SKAGIT COUNTIES!!!!! EVEN WITH THE SHORTAGE OF VOLUNTEERS THAT HELP OUT EVERYDAY!!!! If you need other things such as information on where to get a shower or where as a runaway teen can go or a shelter church that takes in families. Things that as a community we need at times of hardship Helping Hands Food Bank is the place to go for food!!!!! First!!!!!

This…read morefood bank is in the process of moving soon to a new location but currently is run out of an old church and is called the Food Pantry. Clients( as they are known) line up outside and are invited in to be taken around by volunteers who lead them around to select items of their choice within certain parameters. The amount they get is based on numbers in their family. What I don't like is that this place gets fruits and vegetables that are not in very good condition - especially the greens and more delicate produce. The items here are donated by local stores. I don't believe the public's donations go to support this location. It is not a very nice facility so should be nicer when they move.

Big ticket items needed are soya sauce and honey. Donations not required are ANY kind of vitamin supplements as they cannot be distributed as the food bank does not have a pharmaceutical license. I didn't think I'd enjoy this Yelp event but I did! Really opened my eyes as to how easy volunteering here would be and I'm seriously considering it. Thanks again for a great event.

If the homeless and low income have a car and can afford gas i suppose they can drive outside of town and pick up some food bank from the food bank. Seriously what is wrong with Port Angeles, is it all just a cash grab under the guise of caring for those less fortunate?? Photo of Port Angeles food bank attatched, miles outside of town and no bus service anywhere near the actual business and you have to walk about a mile uphill to catch the bus on the main highway if you can. Disabled and elderly poor cant do that. Serves the most able bodied not quite actually really poor people who have cars in the area, smh.

I have noted the other ladies comment on here, and in contrast I have found the employees to be very friendly and accommodating at all times. I don't know who that employee mentioned is, but all I can say is that I have always been treated kindly and courteously. Perhaps the lady was having a bad day, as we all do from time to time.
