Rainbow Catering is a small Korean catering shop, located in Annandale. They offer various ready-to-eat banchans (such as pickled spicy cucumbers, fishcake, spinach, etc.), as well as kimbop rolls, frozen dumplings, and other minor grocery items. I'm thinking that their forte is the fresh banchans and their catering business. The hubs and I stopped by while in the area, and we picked up a few banchans for the week - moosehngchae (spicy julienned radish), fishcake (with onions and bell peppers), and pan-fried tofu (topped with a soy sauce/scallion/red pepper mixture). All were super fresh, seasoned well, and very tasty, like it was all homemade! The prices were definitely reasonable, too, where each was of a generous portion, jam-packed into their containers. I can't wait to try the other banchans! Plenty of parking in the shared plaza lot. +delicious and fresh banchans +catering options available +free parking in shared plaza lot

Sells frozen beef ribs (Kalbi) months beyond FDA expiration requirements. On June 7 2014 I bought Korean barbecue short ribs and when I arrived home noticed label: packed on February 18, 2014 and to be sold by March 20, 2014. Note packing label I posted. Previous purchases of frozen Kalbi from Rainbow had distinctly old meat taste. That is my last visit there.

Inside of their mochi dduk. Very soft, very chewy, freshly made.

So we've been here multiple times and used their catering services for birthdays and weddings. Their rice cakes (dduk) taste delicious, but their customer service is inconsistent and often lacking. I'll give them 4 stars because they did a good job for my daughter's dol celebration, but previously they've given us lots of grief when they felt like we didn't "order enough." This time, they took extra care and make the dduk cake really simple and beautiful. Their dduk is very pretty because they use natural food to get their colors (purple yam, Korean greens, squash, edible flowers, etc). If they would work on their customer service, I could be a loyal customer.

On site, the catering team went above and beyond to ensure our events went seamlessly. I have never had guests compliment the staff and the menu as much as they did with St. Germain! As the event coordinator, I appreciated that Ceecho, Donal, and Johnny checked in with me throughout the event, quickly adjusted to the schedule changes, and were efficient and helpful throughout the set up and tear down process. I highly recommend Saint Germain for our next catered function in DC! We will be a repeat customer for sure!

Their menu is expansive and can accommodate all types of dietary restrictions--we had dairy free, vegan, pollotarian, and gluten free folks, and they all enjoyed the food. Set up and tear down were efficient, and the staff was so friendly, polite, and professional! And the food! I over ordered, so the whole library staff got to eat, too. Everyone raved about the buffets (we did a "cookout" style, a "fajita bar" style, and we had breakfast for three days). Everything was cooked well and seasoned well! The fresh fruit was delicious! Can I recommend them any more than I have? If I'm ever in the DC/DMV area again for an event, I will definitely give them a call.

Dinner was for 25 + people and there was barely enough food for 12. Not that this mattered, as EVERYTHING was inedible and there were no plates, cutlery or napkins provided. I take that back, the store brought $2.00 (price still on) cornbread and $16.00 cake were the ONLY items edible. The Mac and Cheese was dry and bland. I will give them credit for it being both overcooked and undercooked all in the same batch. I'm still trying to make sense of that! The only adjective that even remotely describes this Mac and Cheese is "disrespectful". Like, seriously, the disrespect was 10/10. The chicken was undercooked and bland. How do you make jerk chicken bland and soggy? I'm actually curious. The "blackened" salmon was overcooked yet not blackened, creating another "make it make sense" moment. I immediately spat out the greens. They were undercooked, not under-seasoned but literally "not seasoned". Wait, I take that back too, if you count the dirt and grit as seasoning. They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off. Pictures don't lie. The fact that they were sent pictures and still stood behind their product tells you all you need to know. Please, please, PLEASE do not let these people ruin your event and more importantly your special moments and memories. There are so many other respectable and legitimate Black-owned catering companies i.e. Ohhs and Ahhs, Henry's, Hitching Post.

We reached out very early on in the planning process and spoke with Diego about our preferences for the menu and ideal price point. He was very understanding--particularly of our desire to keep a tight budget--and prompt to schedule a tasting for us. As soon as the tasting finished, we knew we would sign with TYTC for everything but dessert. The food was superb, not just run-of-the-mill wedding "fish and chicken," but flavorful and cooked to perfection. TYTC also has dozens of appetizer options, perfect for all cuisines and preferences. There was no issue adding items that were non-dairy and GF for several guests with dietary restrictions. In the months before our wedding, Diego was responsive and communicative. He led us know a few months before the wedding that he may need to be on travel...and could miss our wedding. This was only worrying when, after doing walkthroughs (x2), questions kept popping up that we had already answered about décor, timeline etc. Fortunately, Diego handed us off to his colleague Paola who has an extensive background in weddings. Paola was a delight to work with on our wedding day, and managed her team professionally. (They even brought us food/drinks while we were taking photos after the ceremony!) Our guests loved the food, so minus the few stressful hiccups in the final weeks, we're very happy we spent the money to use TYTC.
