They will have a grand opening in early February. I recently ordered a tray of JapChae. The new owner prepared very very generous amount of food and charged less than the previous owner. By the time we got to the store, several of the food products were gone, but the guy who was behind the register was very helpful and asked if I need anything to call them ahead and they will make sure they keep some things aside. They offer various ready-to-eat banchans (such as pickled spicy cucumbers, fishcake, spinach, etc.), as well as kimbop rolls, frozen dumplings, and other minor grocery items. I'm thinking that their forte is the fresh banchans and their catering business. The hubs and I stopped by while in the area, and we picked up a few banchans for the week - moosehngchae (spicy julienned radish), fishcake (with onions and bell peppers), and pan-fried tofu (topped with a soy sauce/scallion/red pepper mixture). All were super fresh, seasoned well, and very tasty, like it was all homemade! The prices were definitely reasonable, too, where each was of a generous portion, jam-packed into their containers. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Because of COVID, I had to make my daughter's 1st birthday a much smaller affair. So we've been here multiple times and used their catering services for birthdays and weddings. Their rice cakes (dduk) taste delicious, but their customer service is inconsistent and often lacking. I'll give them 4 stars because they did a good job for my daughter's dol celebration, but previously they've given us lots of grief when they felt like we didn't "order enough." This time, they took extra care and make the dduk cake really simple and beautiful. Their dduk is very pretty because they use natural food to get their colors (purple yam, Korean greens, squash, edible flowers, etc). Hands down one of the best kimbap I have ever tried. It is a simple vegetable kimbap but it tastes so good! Also, I like how they sell homemade style stews and side dishes that taste pretty decent as well. They have good dinner menu choices if you do not want to cook at home. This little gem of a store is tucked away in between a Korean hair salon and Korean bakery in an Annandale, VA strip mall. This store is called Rainbow Catering, but they also sell a la carte items in smaller packages. They offer a wide selection of "banchan" (Korean side-dishes), kimchis, snacks, and other small Korean grocery items. All of their fresh food items seem to be made in-house. My absolute favorite item from this store is the (bellflower root). This is the white one, not the spicy red one. I don't know what form of magic they perform on it, but it's the best I've ever tasted. A couple other items that you must try are the (fermented soybean paste) and (homemade soy sauce). You won't find stuff this good at the HMart, Lotte, or Grand Mart supermarkets. Give them a try. You won't be sorry! read more

Food was ready on time and packed very nicely. Everything tasted great and the presentation was awesome. Our 25th Wedding Anniversary was on the line. We were treating our small English Ministry congregation in a Korean church and decided on them based on a recommendation. We were a little freaked because t hey delivered early using a separate car service (better than late) due to worries about the hot food getting cold but that wasn't a problem and everybody complimented the food. We made one mistake with a side order which we didn't realize would be like kimchi but that wasn't a biggie. I would definitely use them again. I recently catered a small party using the food from Rainbow Catering. All of the food that I ordered was fresh and tasty! Better than the stuff you buy at H-mart and some of the other things you find at Annandale restaurants. Prices are very reasonable too. It seems like it's a family-owned place and the owners were friendly but Korean-speaking. My Korean isn't that great so the son of the owner was helpful and super friendly. They are very busy on the weekends so it's not a good time to place the order but picking up on weekends are fine. You can walk in and buy single servings of food and soups, not just catering. They also sell variety of Korean rice cakes (dduk) if you need for b-days etc. I wish I knew about this place sooner. This was the first time we had used Rainbow Catering. We were having a family get together and wanted to have some Galbi for our dinner. We ordered 40 pounds of marinated Galbi with special instructions to not have it sweet. Sam took the order with these instructions. Needless to say, it was very sweet and extremely tough. Our family was not able to enjoy it. Most of it was thrown out. When I called the Rainbow Caterer I was told that we probably over cooked it but I told them the meat was med rare and that it wasn't overcooked. . My stepmom who is Korean talked with one of the employees there and was told that there must have been a lot of older people because they had difficulty chewing the meat. That is totally offensive and incorrect! I told them it was too sweet and felt that I wasn't being listened to. My stepmom spent a lot of money on a dinner that wasn't prepared to our specifications. Sam expected me to bring the Galbi back into their store in order for them to believe me. This wasn't possible as I had just buried my father at Arlington Cemetery. Never again will my family order from this establishment! They do not prepare orders according to the customers specifications. read more
