The first time I had ever heard of Great Wall was from a former roommate many years ago. She used to make her monthly trek and come back with all these red plastic bags filled with items I had never seen before, and so many vegetables! I asked her about it and she invited me to go with her. Every since then, I have been an avid fan of Asian markets. Great Wall, from what I've been told is Chinese owned. Being in NOVA, there is also H Mart, and that's Korean owned. Doesn't make a difference to me. What I like are the fresh produce, good prices, wide variety of fruits veggies, and cuts of meat. I enjoy walking down the aisles and looking at all the items while trying to figure out what they're used for. I got all my ingredients for Chinese stir fry from here like the cooking wine, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, etc. There is also a small food court inside the grocery store near the check out area. Highly recommend!

I love shopping at Great Wall. There are fair prices, good produce and I can always find my favorite brands (most authentic too) for Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian cuisine. I know I can find the brands for herbal medicine here too. It is a one stop shop to buy anything to cook authentic asian cuisine to taste the most like my moms! (Especially since she shops here too!) I love the food court, which offers a selection of food, including Cantonese BBQ for chicken, duck, crispy pork! They also have big bowls of noodle soups there too! I would steer away from their bao buns that are mainly dough. There's also a small bakery section near check out, and fresh seafood in the back. The check out line can get long, but there are two sections. One in the front, and one near the fruit, for their side entrance that people don't typically go to. It is a very clean store, with plenty of parking out front. I highly recommend shopping at Great Wall if you're in Fairfax, and whatever you don't find here, there is a H Mart across the street and a 99 Ranch Market nearby as well. I love how many Asian supermarkets there are in our Fairfax Area!

Nice, CLEAN! Fresh produce. I love coming here right when they open on the weekend because it is not crowded! They have all the fresh produces and fruits and meat. Our family come here to buy meats because of how fresh it is. Also, asian meats like pork blood and ears can't be find this fresh at other markets! Everything is always so organized. Service is always quick. Glad they open this store near my house. Will always be my go to weekend shopping spot!

I just went there last week and so excited to have a nice Asian food but unfortunately the quality of the Vietnamese pork ham I bought was old with mold. Sadly I have to throw it away.

Can't believe we now have three Asian supermarkets within a 2 mile radius of each other (H Mart, 99 Ranch). Great Wall is specifically a mainland China grocery store. Thus its offerings are catered more towards that demographic. Having shopped at the other two grocery stores in Fairfax as well as the Great Wall in Rockville, MD, this one falls short. It is smaller than the aforementioned stores. Prices of packaged goods appear to be more expensive. But the main deal breaker for me is they have a $5 card min. Seriously?!...The other Asian grocery stores I mentioned don't have this restriction. What it does have going for it is how cheap its produce are. I like that it has a dedicated section for hotpot meat. It's meat and seafood options are good as well but isn't a huge advantage over other stores. It also sells certain medicinal Chinese products that other stores don't have. And it's still relative new, since it opened a few months ago. But that's about it. The food court currently only consists of 2 restaurants (see pics). Parking is a lot among the plaza that the X Sport fitness center is. All things considered this is not worth a look unless you are planning to more than $5 in produce. Check out Hmart across the street for more variety or 99 Ranch.

Our first time visiting Great Wall Supermarket was at their Falls Church location. Drove by their Fairfax location a few times and finally got a chance to check it out. Plenty of parking is available. The store is clean and organized. I really enjoyed walking around and seeing what the store had to offer. Employees are friendly and do a wonderful job keeping things orderly here. The cashier was sweet and neatly wrapped up our groceries. Their food court includes a delicious place called BAOBUDDY. The sweetest employee, Sha Liao patiently answered my questions and even offered me a complimentary bao! So grateful. Their buns are soft and filled with all sorts of deliciousness. I will definitely be back to try some of their other fillings. So glad we got a chance to drop by and excited for our next visit!

I had no idea this place had finally opened up! we went because I really wanted to compare it to 99 Ranch. it's slightly cheaper & it has more of the items I grew up with. I actually found all the Chinese items I wanted at this location vs. 99 Ranch! so this supermarket like 99 Ranch has a fish section, hot pot section, fresh produce, frozen section & a work in progress food court. the only thing it doesn't have right now is a bakery. I think Great Wall would do great if it had a dining option like it does in Falls Church. I'd love some good pineapple buns haha I was fairly impressed with the selection plus. they have the black sesame candy I was craving which 99 Ranch does not carry! it's a little closer to me than 99 Ranch but not by much. I'll definitely be going to this supermarket more often, plus with my parents coming to visit, I know they prefer Great Wall (as it was started in NY). as of right now, the food court only has BaoBuddy which isn't bad, but sells all their buns in bulk (pack of 6 for $20). the Chinese lady kept talking to us in Mandarin & would yell at people if they touched the buns. my husband had such a hard time understanding her because the music was incredibly loud and she was talking very low haha he got incredibly confused, but we did walk away with a pack of buns (pork scallion buns). incredibly juicy, pretty flavorful, but it was more bread than filling.

Expired items always available on shelves. Be careful!

Not the first time I reported an item being expired for a while but be extra careful and double check when you purchase something in this store. No one seems to take interest in checking if an item has expired or not and removing them from shelves. This particular item expiration seem to be taken out from external area of the box. I just bought this recently and they are expired since 2022/04/01. As cool and interesting the products they have here, I'm very skeptical with their product they sell here.

I visited Great Wall during the grand opening weekend. The store is in a shopping strip and there is plenty of parking. The inside of the store was bustling. 95% or the shelves were stocked full. There was a good variety of colorful produce, fresh meats and seafood, even live king crabs walking about their tank. I'm excited to have all the hard-to-find Chinese condiments and frozen foods I need at this location. The food court only had one store open and there was no indication of what might be coming in the future. I think robust food court be important to have in the store.

mold purple rice with no expiration date. Be careful. The produce date might hide under the sticker.

The Cantonese BBQ restaurant in the Great Wall Supermarket food court is the reason I'm giving this place a 5 stars.

A lot of these foods are really familiar, and the selection is just so far and wide. I especially love how everything here is true to the ingredients and the pure authenticity of what the food is. Everyone we saw were delighted to greet the folks behind the counter cutting cold cuts, or just to show the sheer amount of pierogi they were stocking up on. At the counter, we ordered from their menu which had a very delicious borsht. It came pipping hot with some dill, and the veggies were nice and cooked down. The sampler is a must try if you want to get a good sense of the foods they offer, really enjoyed the varity of kielbasa and the hot mustard it comes with to dip. Gołąbki was generously filled and pan fried served with stove top potatos. A lot of their pastries are either imported or made in house, and it came in a good variety like poppyseed flavor. We enjoyed the food in their eating nook and enjoyed the really peaceful views of the strip mall. Really here for the homey vibes, something for just about anyone who is missing these nostalgic flavors. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
