Private beach, no crowds, just a tiki hut, a couple of chairs, and that endless blue. Sunrise coffee under the palapa, sunset watching the sky light up like a torch... simple, quiet, perfect. What I liked: real privacy, easy beach access, and zero nonsense. You can actually hear the water, not your neighbor's playlist. We walked barefoot, breathed, soaked up Vitamin D, and remembered how good "nothing" can feel. It's the kind of spot where you put the phone down, talk like adults, and come back better. If you need nightlife, look elsewhere. If you want calm, views for days, and a Keys pace that lets your nervous system chill, Rainbow Bend is it. What could improve? A lot! We arrived after office closed, found our room after walking past a sketchy dark/unlit hallway of sorts. Checked the security of window to discover there was nothing secure about it. No lock-slider easily went up and hurricane shutters which were closed, easily opened up. There was tissue of some sort stuffed in the casing around the noisy ac unit. It sounded like bowling was taking place in room above us. Most likely the plastic chairs being slid across floors. I was looking for a place in the Keys with a great view of the water to get away for a four-day birthday weekend. I needed to chillax, and water calms me. I envisioned laying on a chair, reading, and/or staring at the ocean. This place came highly recommended from a friend at church, who has been a few times and goes fishing nearby. And it was just perfect. The accommodations were simple, but clean. We had a one-bedroom with a kitchenette, fridge, and microwave. The couch bed opened up for our daughter. We could even open our door and stare at the ocean from the living room couch. Better yet, we could close the door, open the blinds, and still have that terrific view! The stay came with a proper (if you prefer, hot) breakfast from the onsite cafe. While the pancakes looked fabulous (fluffy!) they were tasteless. The French toast and any of the eggs and side meat dishes were fine. They also offer biscuits and gravy and bagels and cold cereal. You can even go and get your meal and take it back to your quarters. (No room service.) The dinners smelled divine (I often did laps in the pool that was underneath the restaurant), but the prices were a bit above our budget (averaging about $40 an entree). Maybe next time, we'll splurge. They did NOT offer daily cleaning service, but gladly brought fresh towels and any necessities at your request. The staff was very helpful and friendly. For the offerings, the price was decent compared to other places in the Keys. I will definitely be back! read more

We came here for our honeymoon and stayed six nights. Upon driving up, we were not 100% sure from the looks of the outside, but we were fully satisfied, and don't be quick to judge your initial view of the place. The maintenance staff Laura and Loretta responded to all of our needs and took care of us during our stay. The staff at Hideaway took care of us daily for breakfast (order the peppered sausage and biscuits) and we had a dinner there on Sunday evening and it was superb. Things to know: 1. You will get texts daily for the maids. Some might find this annoying, but please know the maids never enter your room because of Covid, so the texts are to make sure all your needs are met (I.e towels, toilet paper, trash bags, and anything else you typically need at a hotel.) 2. You can't swim in the beach water daily. I included pictures of the water at various stages. There is a mini library under the restaurant which added a sweet touch. 3. The pool and jacuzzi are cleaned daily. They appear older, but very clean and sanitized. This was such a peaceful and romantic getaway for us. It was good for the soul. Can't say enough great things about this place. We've stayed there twice in two different rooms. Both were perfect! They go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you needed. Texting before you arrive and daily. Eva is so great. The guys in the restaurant are the icing on the cake. Everything we have had has been awesome. It's a breathtaking place, an hour from Key West and close to alot of restaurants and little shops to fill your days. They even have a nice shoreline for my hubby to fish off of. We stayed at Rainbow Bend the last week of January 2021. Rainbow Bend has been around for decades and the owners have kept a lot of the Keys-y charm that the resort is famous for. The buildings are original, but remodeled since Hurricane Irma. We booked the ground floor King Bed Suite (unit #8), which looked exactly like the online photos!! The room we stayed in has a modern up-to-date resort feel, with a freshly tiled shower and new modern furniture. The unit has a separate bedroom, bathroom, and living areas with a kitchenette (table, refrigerator, sink, microwave, cooktop but no oven). The kitchen was well stocked, with most basics for eating in your room--something that is desirable in the covid-era. TV and free wifi also included. Outside, the resort has a pool and wonderful sandy beach with lounge chairs provided, perfect for relaxing! All you need to bring is your bathing suit!! The resort offers a complimentary breakfast in the Hideaway Restaurant, located on the premises. The Hideaway overlooks the ocean and has its own following among locals and offers dining without leaving the premises. The management was very attentive and responsive. We arrived after hours, but the staff were very accommodating and arranged for easy key pick up). I felt like they wanted to make sure I was happy and had everything I needed for an enjoyable stay. I remember being totally baffled by the reviews for Rainbow Bend when choosing a spot to stay in the Keys. Half of them were so negative and half were so positive that it felt like I was making a gamble when booming with Rainbow Bend. Well, here I am to assure you that while the slightly faded pink buildings don't look like much from the outside, we were VERY pleased with our stay at Rainbow Bend. The inside of our king bed suite was completely clean and newly renovated! The bathroom in particular is something we would like to praise for being sparkling clean. We did take issue with the shower floor being flush with the bathroom floor so that water would spill out, but that was only a minor issue. The bed was spacious and so comfortable! Clean sheets, plenty of pillows! We had a downstairs unit so we did hear some running around from upstairs in the morning, but overall we felt like the noise level was peaceful and appropriate. Staff were very kind and welcoming. They truly cared about our comfort, even sending me text messages to check in on our stay. The complimentary, made to order breakfast was fantastic. The waiter was more than accommodating with all our requests! If I were to return to the Keys, I would 100% stay here again! read more

There are not enough words to describe how wonderful the Rainbow Bend Resort is. It's impossible to even list all the incredible experiences my beloved and I have had during our two stays there, but I can try! First off the property itself is older, but incredibly charming! All of the rooms appear to have been recently redone, and are immaculate. The cleaning staff does an amazing job, as the rooms are spotless. We have stayed in both a studio and a one bedroom room. Both were awesome, but something about cooking dinner and eating it with a view of the beach is just charming. The beach on property is equipped with chairs, hammocks, and lots of clean sand. You can rent kayaks or paddle boards for a small fee. The staff, Laura and Cathy are incredibly accommodating, even texting us during our stay to see if we needed anything! I even called before my stay and was offered the opportunity to upgrade my room! It was so great that I stayed an extra night! The included breakfast in the morning at the Hideaway Cafe is great, and while I have't eaten there for dinner, I heard it is great! For sure next time! This place was great! We loved it! Just something I picked out from my online AMEX Delta Skymiles Travel and very pleasantly surprised. This is an older family owned operation so don't expect a huge staff like at a Sandals Resort to cater to your every whim. But, if you want a nice, clean and comfortable beach front location with a friendly staff at a decent price - this is the place to stay! They even have a wonderful complimentary breakfast. Not the typical bagels, yogurt and cereal complimentary breakfast like at the chain motels. This is a REAL made to order breakfast of eggs, hash browns, bacon, pancakes, etc. Or, just bagels and coffee and juice if that's all you need. And it's free folks! Further the place is pet friendly and I mean really pet friendly, not like one of those places where they keep an eye on on you like you and your dogs are out on some sort of parole. We booked a two bedroom room for three nights. Got to our room and the refrigerator was not working and had an awful fish smell. We asked for another room and they didn't have anything comparable. Offered us a smaller room for the same price. The place was almost empty. We asked what else they had and it was a two bedroom, but waterside. They wanted to charge for an upgrade and we declined. By far the best deal in the florida keys. We found rainbows bend last year for our July 4 vacation planned on staying three nights and wound up staying five!!! We didn't want to leave. My first time staying in the Keys so not sure what to expect. Looked a bit rough when I first drove up but the manager was very nice and the room updated and clean. I was told they had reopened just recently. They had been pretty much been out of business since hurricane Irma in 2017. Some areas had been recently repaired/updated such as the pool and rooms. Before the hurricane they had a dock and boat rental for guests. I look forward seeing that come back. Very quaint, low key, and full of "charm". I will definitely go back. They have a restaurant onsite which is 5 star+. It is almost impossible to find unless it is pointed out. The Hideaway Café is a must for anyone who really loves good food! read more

It's not a 5 star, white collar resort, so if that's what you're looking for, move on. My wife and I thought this place was very charming and it was really secluded; we encountered very few people. We got exactly what we were looking for; relaxation. The room was very clean, towels were clean(without stains), the views were stunning, free breakfast was hot and made to order. The staff was very nice and accommodating. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the Wi-Fi didn't work. But we weren't there to be online so it didn't matter. This review has been a long time coming. I've tried holding back from posting it, but I think the community needs to know and new customers need to see an improvement before considering it. Intro: It was valentines day weekend, 2011, and I wanted to find a hotel in the keys that was not very commercialized and that had access to the beach. This was the only one that I found residency in, the lady who was on the phone seemed nice,and I was desperate. They were requiring a two nights stay minimum but they were nice enough to let me stay only one night since that was all i could afford. $248.63 is what I paid for one night -- pretty pricey for the quality of the place... The Positive: The restaurant upstairs is amazing - very delicious food and extremely helpful service. The hotel has access to the coast and there are boat rentals available to anyone staying at the hotel which we were told was free but you have to pay for the fuel so its not 100% free - still it was a nice ride. The rooms had a lot of privacy and when stepping out of the door you were already outside and facing the water. The Negative: We were there 20 hours total. We killed 19 roaches in the room. When we approached the front desk we told them what happened and the lady said, "they must have bombed the room behind you guys last night and the roaches must've come into your room" and gave me a blank stare. Then she told me, "well we have your credit card on file so we just need to add the fuel surcharge for the boat and you can be on your way." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! I just killed 19 roaches with my bare sandal and they were asking for a $12 fuel surcharge for the boat?!?! I honestly believe I should've been fully refunded for that night's stay. $250 is not chump change and no one spends $250 to kill 19 roaches. She finally withdrew the fuel surcharge but they still had me pay the $248.63 for the single night's stay. To the hotel staff, its not our fault and no customer should have to deal with killing 19!!!!! roaches. Its very appalling to have to deal with the roaches and then not to be refunded - let alone being asked for more cash! I can't recommend this place to anyone I know and I will never be staying here again. read more

I enjoyed a two week stay years back with my family. The suites were beautiful and they accommodated a family of 6 easily. The pool was also very nice, and the private beach area is gorgeous! At first I was thrilled to be here. The view was lovely & it was perfect to watch the sunrise. We arrived late on a Friday night & went down to get breakfast Saturday morning. The restaurant says breakfast from 8am-10am, a guy arrived about 8:15am to open the restaurant & then we were informed that he was not only our server but the cook as well. There were at least 30 people in line to get in & 1 person to take orders, get drinks, seat guests & cook food. Needless to say we went elsewhere as did a few other families. The rooms are updated & they are cute. We stayed in a queen suite. The bathroom is very small with no counter space, the bed was not comfortable at all & the pull out couch was even more uncomfortable. We could hear everything going on in the room located behind us. The sand on the beach area is hard/rock-like and this area is not really made for swimming. Lots of sea life present- horseshoe crabs, stingrays, hermit crabs- have to be extremely careful if allowing kids in this area. More ideal for kayaking or snorkeling (kayaks were not included with stay, can rent for additional cost). There were a few things damaged in the room when I arrived & we informed the front desk. All front desk staff were kind & we received texts asking how our stay was throughout the visit. Upon departure I would have still considered coming back despite any negatives mentioned above. We were hardly in our room so it served its purpose but it was about an hour after we left that we got a phone call from the hotel. I answered the phone thinking that maybe we left something there & they were trying to catch us before we got too far but oh no, I was wrong. They were calling to ask us about a hole in the wall. I had no idea what she was talking about & she sent us pictures. You can believe me or not, but consider yourself warned, this hole was NOT there when we left and I had no way to prove it therefore I was responsible for it. Never have I ever had something like this happen & I've traveled all over the US. I'm very grateful the cost was minimal but that doesn't matter because it wasn't about the money, I was being blamed for something that we didn't do. Again, it is what it is but I would not recommend this place to anyone. I was crying when I got off the phone & physically sick to my stomach. I've never felt so awful after a vacation. The lady apologized & I understand that there's no way to prove it wasn't there when we left. I know it wasn't us that caused this damage & I can rest in knowing that. With that being said, I'd proceed with caution if considering staying here. If you do choose to stay then maybe ask the front desk to do a walk through before you hand them the keys at checkout so you don't end up in this situation. DO NOT STAY THERE! we left after seeing them afraid to step on the in the night. we tried to contact the owner and she ignored us. when we were finally able to get ahold of her after two days the owner she refused to offer us a refund even after we tried to mediation through the booking agency. she also said not to "threaten" her with a bad review. we were also told we were the only people staying there that night (which in retrospect seems obvious why) but repeatedly heard footsteps coming through the ceiling. this place is TERRIFYING. repeat: DO NOT STAY THERE! read more

Just came back from a great long weeknd and the place was Very nice, Very clean, Great breakfast and most of all loved the FREE boat rental. Yes! FREE BOAT wow who does that? lol.... Customer service & Managment was great as well. My kids LOVED their FREE kayak as well. My husband loved fishing on their pier at night as well. Overall this place was sooo worth it. stay away! Pictures and info online is deceiving. The place is a wreck due to hurricane, but it is also extremely old and dirty. The bath in our room was rusty. There was no breakfast (allegedly due to repairs...) and no boats for hire. The place reeked of RAID when we came in and we were welcomed by a cockroach. The place was dirty, hair everywhere, towels and sheets should have been retired a decade ago. The A/C is unbelievably loud, but you have to turn it on if you don't want to hear the neighbors... The price estimate we received when booking was supposed to include everything (including taxes) however when we checked out they added an excess of $100 for so-called "resort taxes", undisclosed before. We went there because we have a dog, however, you are encouraged to look elsewhere. This place gave a very sour taste to an otherwise nice vacation. read more

There were two king suite options on Booking.com to choose from at this location. They were $60 difference in price. The only difference between the two rooms was the fact that one had an ocean view and one did not. So, I opted to pay the extra $60 for the ocean view. When we got there, we got a room FACING THE ROAD (US1). We were in the FARTHEST building from the ocean and the only things you can hear in the room we stayed in was the traffic moving by just feet away and the people in the rooms next to us (every word they said we could hear). We brought the issue (not ocean view) to the attention of more than one employee while we were there, sent proof of the "ocean view" option on our booking papers, and emailed and called a number of times to get at least refunded the $60 extra we PAID FOR NOTHING. They are not willing to remedy the mistake and have blamed the whole thing on Booking.com instead of manning up and making the customer happy. Every place in The Keys is beautiful...it's The Keys. I'll find a place that actually cares about their customers next time. We paid $350+ to stay two nights for a view of a freaking road. By the way, we took this trip to celebrate getting engaged and specifically picked this room so we'd be able to view the ocean we came to see. What a disappointment that we can't remember this occasion with a better taste in our mouths. We stayed at Captain Pips last year, spent about the same amount of money, and got a beautiful room located right on the beach. They also have already fixed all of their hurricane damage, rent out boats to guests, and have a much better-attached restaurant than this place. Looks absolutely nothing like the pictures when you get here. The outside Frontage is absolutely horrible. And when since the only TV in the Suite was in the bedroom , I went to lay down. Mind you, this is at the height of the coronavirus thing and only Essentials are allowed to rent rooms down here in the Keys , which I am. THEY DID NOT, AND I REPEAT, DID NOT CHANGE THE SHEETS ON THE BEDS!!! THEY JUST MADE THEM LOOK NICE AND MADE UP! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR THAT WHAT SO EVER!!!! I called the number and the girl came in and changed the sheets and blame it on his keeping. Mind you, when I hit the to check in she personally was the one cleaning that particular room! I was DISGUSTED to say the least. All that being said the inside was quite nice. But the only TV in a two-bedroom Suite was in one of the bedrooms??? If you get a two bedroom suite there should be a TV in the living room. This is supposed to be the best room they have. We arrived to learn there was an A/C repairman on the way, but we were assured he would be quick and didn't need to enter the unit. Not only did he need to come in, but he could come and go as he pleased through the sliding glass door in the bedroom where the lock didn't work! We ended up spending time holding a hair dryer and pulling ice off the unit to speed up the repair. On top of all that, the shower was cold. I'd finally had enough and went to the office to ask for a different room, but it was locked up with a sign saying "if you arrived after 8pm, we'll see you tomorrow at 9am.." It was 7:45. They decided to leave early while there was an active repair taking place! The next morning we were woken up by a construction project including hammering, drilling, and loud talking in the room next to us. This was at 8am on a Sunday! We packed up and went to the office to find other frustrated guests knocking on the office door, which was locked up tight at 9:45am. They mentioned needing unhappy with the overall experience as well. We waited around until we found someone to take the key and then left as quickly as possible, eager to be done with our worst hotel experience ever. read more

Overpriced and overrated. They are not happy if you book with a third party broker (booking.com) and they tell you do every chance they get. Poor wifi is the least of their problems. It's not quiet in the least, so I'm guessing the reviewer who said it was peaceful here has a hearing impairment. Housekeeping never comes, kitchen is barely stocked, floors are seriously slanted. We had planned our vacation for many months and saved up our $ (debt free over 1 year now). We are a family of 5- 3 kids 14, 10, and 8. RB website painted a picture of a family friendly resort. It is absolutely not a family resort! The pictures are inaccurate. I would hate for another family to have to take 3 days out of their vacation time like we did. We paid $362 a night (taxes & additional kids included in that). We stayed in #10 with jacuzzi(never worked). The 1st night A/C was broke. Electrician fix it the next day around 5 or 6 p.m. The jacuzzi was one of the main reasons for us paying such a high price for such an older hotel. It never got hot and then found out that it was broke and the water never gets filtered. They just "put bleach in it to kill the algae" not sanitary. We own a pool. Water has to be continuously filtered(@ least 10 hours a day) to kill the bacteria. The 2 ladies at the front " management" argued that clorox kills everything! Really? Wrong. Besides that it didn't get hot. Eventually that was blamed on the electrician who came to fix the A/C(he blew the pump up). Then they don't tell you on the website that kids are not allowed in the resort spa. Also the free use of kayaks also end at 4pm along with the boats. And the biggest deception has to do with the so called free wifi. The only place u can get a free signal is the 2 chairs directly in front of the office. Which are in high demand so we resorted to sitting on the ground along with other resort guests.Here's the kicker: you will get 2 very strong signals for the WiFi that you pay for by the hour. That I am almost positive they get kickbacks from so that's why the free Wi-Fi signal is so weak it is drowned out by the pay as u go Wi-Fi signals ×2. When questioned about the so-called free Wi-Fi she said there are five hot spots around the resort well then why did no one in the resort not one guest that I spoke with able to get any free Wi-Fi except in front of the office. I regret that I did not ask her to show me those five hotspots so if you're there and she says there's 5 have her show them to you. Also if you spend a half a day on the boat (2hours)it's $14 fuel charge if you spend the whole day(4hours) it's $28 fuel charge. Which really that did not bother me but just adds to the overall disappointment. Also they add a 15% gratuity on to any and all Resort amenities used (so called free breakfast and boat fuel). Charged to card on file. I am relieved that we didn't have to argue much to get refunded the last 4 of the 7 days left of our vacation so we could go somewhere that is kid friendly. It took a day of searching online but did get a room at the Hyatt in Marathon. It was excellent and really helped turn our vacation in a positive direction. I do want to add that Jessica one of the housekeepers was always willing to go above and beyond and do not want my review to reflect upon her. Mainly just the 2 ladies that run the place. So please if you have kids please please keep looking for your vacation resort. This is not it. Don't be sucked in by "free use of boats, kayaks, and wifi). You will regret it. I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to warn families not to make same mistake as we did. This was our 1st trip to the Keys as a family. read more
