Speaking of that, go back to the aisle with the many small boxes that contain every tiny, unassuming replacement thingamabob and doohicky ever made in the world! I have NEVER seen this assortment of bits and thingies anywhere else. I mean let's say your hammock stand loses that screw with the largish plastic knob to help turn it with only your hand. By golly, there's a replacement one in that aisle! It is similar to Harry Potter's room of requirement if everything required was small. The workers are extraordinarily friendly. They either really like their jobs or are award-winning actors because I am a believer. BTW, dogs and the humans get free treats (popcorn for humans). Know that they do not sell lumber. Also know, you can rent stuff like power washers, etc. So what's not to love? It's WAY better than some gwaddafful anonymous big box. Albeit some things are more expensive than...say Amazon, but that is small town life. I read the review that complained of all the merchandise there being from China. NOT 100% true because I bought a nice bird feeder made in the USA there, but yeah most of it is. Everything everywhere is made in China, not just at Henery's. Heck, your souvenir to remember your wonderful trip to "fill in the blank" (not China) was probably made in China. Caveat though. Because they are small (but mighty), you sometimes may need to go to said big box. Hopefully not though. P.S. There has been discussion in my household as to whether it is pronounced with two syllables (HEN-RYS) or three (HE-NER-IES), so if someone with certain knowledge of it can clear that up, it would end that discussion once and for all.

I have always been impressed with the variety of materials at this little store, especially when it comes to the most critical items for island residents (eg: stainless street bolts/screws/cabling hardware, etc.), but structural hangers? Yep! Once again variety rivaling the huge box stores. (Actually way, way better stainless inventory.) This time I had the good luck of being helped by Richard. He knew right where everything was, how to use it and stayed with me until I had my complete shopping list. He understands his business and someone there (is it also Richard?) does an amazing job of straightening out the inventory that customers put back in the wrong place. His help was especially appreciated because he caught a mislabeled box of stainless screws that I didn't catch. It would have ruined my whole day if I'd gone home with the wrong thing. They have Stihl and Husqvarna equipment, Weber products and many others. Prices are competitive from what I have seen at other stores. I know the BGE charcoal is a couple bucks higher but the convenience of being so close makes that a non issue. The employees are knowledgeable even though they are mostly younger. Their enthusiasm is high and they will help you out. I usually know what I need but since I'm a "Northwest Man" (via California) I usually gravitate toward the chainsaw section. I know. I can't help it though. Since I have a perfectly operating saw at home that keeps me from buying another but a guy can't have too many chainsaws right? Until that grand day arrives I will mostly stick to buying my BGE supplies. They sell the actual BGE ceramic cookers too. Prominently displayed as well. You literally CANNOT choose not to participate in their begging game. I refused to hit the 'no' button last time and the cashier insisted it had to be me to opt out of the donation. I pushed her on that and she eventually hit the 'no' button herself. How weird is that? I choose which charities I donate to and don't appreciate having that shoved down my throat. She told me their computers lock up until a choice is made, which sounds like a program problem on their end, not my problem. I just want to pay for the stuff I am buying. End of story. Finally, discouraged they have no riding mowers in stock, only push mowers. I try to avoid big box stores but away I go. It's spring and the grass is growing. Guess they lost a $3K sale. This store is a life saver!…read more We are contractors and had a job on Orcas Island. We had never been to Orcas before and were unfamiliar with the area. Before we set out for the island, I looked up local hardware stores (just in case). I found Island Hardware & Supply, called them to make sure they would have what we MIGHT need, hopped in the truck and got on the ferry. OF COURSE it turned out that we DID need some items, so we set off for the Hardware store. We got lost and ended up at the little hardware store in East Sound - we thought we were at the right store, but they didn't have any of the supplies we needed. We were pretty confused until I found out from a local resident that the little hardware store in East Sound is on North Beach Road, and the big hardware store (Island Hardware) is on West Beach Road. So we hopped back in the truck again, and set out to find Island Hardware. (yes, we got losat again...but eventually figured it out) We were so relieved when we located the store and were able to purchase the supplies we needed, because we were thinking that we would have to get on the ferry and drive to the home depot in Mt Vernon (that would have taken forever). Island Hardware had all the stuff we wanted, lumber, tools, big bolts, lag screws, plumbing supplies etc. They even have a couple of little gas pumps which was handy for us. We had the occassion to go back up to Orcas for round two of the job which was exterior painting. The paint we purchased needed to be re-tinted at the last minute. We remembered that Island Hardware had a paint department and took the buckets of paint to them with our fingers crossed. Even though we didn't buy the paint from them, they happily re-tinted it for us...I thought that was pretty generous and excellent customer service!

They knew immediately the product I was looking for and directed me to the cashiers who have these locked up in a cage at checkout. I've been to this location quite a few times and have always had a good experience. On an additional note, I appreciate the reserved parking for veterans. I will definitely be returning for all my home improvement needs.
