What a cool place just off the side of the road! They have an amazing selection of plants that are well taken care of. There's an emu, a llama, and bunny rabbits too! As a decades-long customer of Christianson's, I'm shocked to see it come up on my list of suggested places to review on Yelp. How have I NEVER put pen to paper (er, keyboard to screen) and not reviewed what is likely my absolute favorite nursery and garden store on the planet? Christianson's isn't just a nursery. It's an experience. From their summer weekend markets to various events throughout the year, it's way more than a place to buy plants. But if you need plants, this is the place to go. Not only do they have an amazing selection of common and rare PNW-friendly plants on their outdoor grounds, but their greenhouse/indoor areas are chock full of everything (especially in the spring and summer). Not sure what you need? I always find a friendly and helpful staff member nearby! But my favorite part of Christianson's is their beautiful gift shop. It's full of things both local and from afar - everything from sewn items, soaps, clothing, and books to dishes, accessories, and all sorts of seasonal decor. They have new things, they have antiques, they have EVERYTHING and yet it's so beautifully and thoughtfully arranged it never feels cluttered or overwhelming. When I'm nearby, I love to come here just to browse (and maybe pick up a few gifts too). On top of all that, they have some gorgeous on-site options for event venues, too. And another shop dedicated to all things garden tools! The only thing I recommend is to avoid coming here during tulip season as it can be an hours-long journey to get in (and out) of Christianson's during this time. read more

Christianson's Nursery was the go-to nursery for plant items out of the norm or on our way to/from my grandparents house in Oak Harbor growing up. It is still a nursery we stop by occasionally, however not as much as we used to in part because we do not make the drive as frequently as we used to. If stopping in the morning, my parents would try and align the time we left the house so that we would be to Christianson's right around opening time. If we made it at that time, open parking spots were not too difficult to find. Each of my family members, my mom, my dad, my older sister, and I all had different things we liked to look at. Typically it was mom and dad making the purchases, so I had fun with the cardboard trays/box bottoms and would walk around and pick up flower blooms that had fallen to the floor and put them in the box. Items of interest to me personally were fruit and vegetable starter plants as well as seeds. My parents let me be in charge of a small patch in the backyard for a few years, which I dedicated primarily to vegetables. I had fun looking at the relevant selection of vegetable garden items. I also greatly enjoyed the farm animals we could observe relatively up close. My sister and I would have fun running away from that one chicken coming pecking after us... Since we had pets growing up and liked animals, my parents were also appreciative of the distraction for my sister and I if they were taking longer than anticipated. read more

Stopped here to look at their selection of plants and staff was very friendly. The woman at the counter cut me off when I asked a question. She was clearly uninterested in what I had to say and just wanted to close for the day. We drove 1.5hrs and this is one of my fave places. Very Disappointing. read more

We absolutely loved having our wedding at Christianson's Nursery. Not only is the location beautiful and charming, the staff are all top notch. All throughout the planning process, Emma (Event Coordinator) was extremely responsive and incredibly helpful, answering any and all questions we had. When our wedding day rolled around, the local weather ended up not panning out as forecasted. We ended up with a beautifully damp PNW ceremony (it rained the entire time, which we ended up loving), but that inevitably required many last-minute changes for our reception. This could have been stressful, but Emma and the other staff at Christianson's navigated those challenges in the rain, with grace and a smile! Emma's calm, positive attitude, and her ability to work effectively with our day of coordinator made all the difference for us and our guests. We are so grateful for all their hard work and were so impressed by how smoothly everything went, considering all the rain challenges, and how wonderfully they helped manage the day. read more

This place was an absolute gold mine and I wasn't even looking for plants, flowers or trees, although if I was I'm sure I wouldn't have left empty-handed. The setting was lovely and the gift shop was absolutely beautiful. Spent a lot of time browsing around and picked up a number of things. The displays were put together with much care. The employees knew their stuff and were extremely helpful and I know this from listening to them talk to the customers. An extremely large selection of anything you may want for your garden. I can only imagine what the gift shop looks like at the holiday. I might drive the 80 miles just to go back. read more

While Christianson's is generally a good nursery with a great plant selection, the customer service is sometimes poor. I am surprised at how dismissive and unhelpful they can be. It seems to me that part of the service of garden stores should be to to offer information and answer questions to help customers make decisions about their garden purchases. Even if they are tired or think the question is stupid! Unfortunately, his is often not my experience with Christianson's. read more

Stumbled across this nursery on accident this weekend! We were in the area checking out the tulip festival, and drove by this place. I had to stop in! this is the biggest nursery I have ever been to! It is so cute! They have several greenhouses, each having different selections of plants. I ended up buying a 4 inch money tree for around $12-13, and some house plant bug killer for $10. The employees were very knowledgeable about plants and helping me out with my bug problem. I will definitely come back here next time I am in the area! read more

Christianson's Nursery - Stumbled across this nursery by accident and completely fell in love! - Nurseries & Gardening Near Me - Mount Vernon, Washington

I would love to love Christianson's. And I started to, but now I don't. We recently redid our front courtyard area and needed several bushes, trees and plants to fill out new planter beds. We visited Christianson's and spent a large amount of time with a very knowledgeable sales person. She walked us through the many greenhouses pointing out various plants that would work well in our space. Over the next several weeks we came in several times and bought trees, shrubs and several perennials. Several hundred dollars worth. Everything was purchased & planted in late January through mid-February. One of the questions we asked was about whether or not it was the right season to plant trees. We were assured that yes, indeed it was the perfect time. All the trees would be dormant and would happily adjust to their new spot. All they suggested was to make sure and plant everything the same day we brought them home. So we did that. Now that we are past mid-April, we are seeing a lot of new leaves on the deciduous trees and bushes. The rhododendron is blooming and everything looks good. Except for one tree. It is half dead. There are leaves completely out on the bottom third of the tree and the top 2/3 is clearly dead. I called the nursery and asked them what I should do. They asked me to email pictures, which I did promptly. Silence. I heard nothing from them. So six or seven days later we went in, took our receipt, and more pictures. We spoke with the same woman who told us planting in January was ok. Her response was essentially it was our fault the tree is partially dead because we planted it in January and that we should just cut off the dead part and not worry about it. So my $130 Japanese maple tree will now be a Japanese Maple bush. Not what I planned on. What I took this to mean is that they don't stand behind their merchandise. I was very shocked and my husband says "I guess we won't be back here." Which is probably going to be true. This makes me very sad and I wish this wasn't true. But apparently it is. Christianson's is very popular because they are big, have a lot of nice stuff, including a gift shop with fun merchandise. But buyer beware, if you buy something and it doesn't do what it's supposed to, they don't have any warranty or promise that they aren't selling half dead dormant plants. read more

If you are looking for a high-end affordable venue, look no further- this venue is a gem. The contract was short and easy, the venues holds 50 people in the schoolhouse, but can accommodate approximately 150 outdoors. All around 2k venue fee (including deposit)- which is incredible reasonable when comparing to Seattle area/Woodinville wineries. They allow BYOA and food truck vendors - all which keep out cost down, al in all, we had a wedding under 10k. This venue needs limited flowers and decorations, the stage is already set. Our photographer was so happy to shoot here and sent us double the sneak peak photos, just because there was so many opportunities for photo ops. Ellen was amazing to work with - and had her own wedding at the venue, always available to answer questions and provide suggestions. You can also rent out the greenhouse in case it rains. I would hands down suggest this venue for someone looking to setup on their own - but a great affordable venue that is truly gorgeous location. Magic. Glorious. Even on a rainy day, this place evokes Alice-In-Wonderland feelings with a side of secrets around corners that gave me heart flutters a la The Secret Garden. I came with a dear friend through the wet tulip fields to find some plants and we found oh so much more. Each charming Greenhouse gave way to another even more charming section. If I lived in the area my bank account would have been in serious trouble. This place is worth the drive - plus! You can get a beverage or even a crepe and really meander through and enjoy it. It's one of the largest and well kept nurseries I've been too. In what is often a damp climate, its hard to keep things tidy but it's easy to explore and shop (maybe a little toooo easy, we left with a wagon full!). You'll find all ranges of floral and shrubs, fruit trees, indoor plants, pots, supplies and much, much more. This is one of those local businesses you should absolutely spend your money at, from the diverse offerings to the customer service, it's a solid choice. read more

I was in search of a David Austin Rose named 'Abraham Darby". My rose died after 25 years of amazing blooms and I wanted to replace it. This was the only plant I dug up from my Seattle home of 25 years in 2015 when I moved because it meant so much to me. When I realized that it had died by the spring of 2022, I knew I would start calling other nurseries to locate one in late winter of 2022. Christianson's was the only nursery that could provide it. I live in Birch Bay( about 45 minutes north of Bellingham, WA) and it is over a 2 hour drive down and back. I purchased it in Jan of 2023 and pick it up in Feb. at a cost of $50 + tax. I had purchased my first rose from Swanson's Nursery in Seattle but at that time it was already in bloom so I knew exactly what I was buying. When I realized that a mistake was made and I received a different rose(even thought the tag said Abraham Darby). I called Christianson's and told them how disappointed I was. The woman on the other end of the phone said "yes it can be marked wrong sometimes". I thought perhaps they might mention that when I was ordering the rose and I might not have gone through with the order. She told me I would have to dig up the rose and bring it back to get my refund. I thought it is mid July and hot out and this would stress the rose and I also am struggling with physical issues and was not about to dig it up and drive down and back. I sent photo's via their FB page of the rose I got compared to my beloved rose I had for 25 years. I said I was not willing to return it and would like a refund. I owned and operated my own Landscape and Design Biz in Seattle for over 25 years and sometimes to please your clients and do what is best for them. A small loss is better than an unhappy client. I then received a phone call from a man, he did not identify himself but I assumed he was in charge or even the owner of the nursery...couldn't be sure. He told me their policy and I said I was not willing to do this and I was not up for the stress of physically digging it up and driving it down. I mentioned I was 70 and he said" oh a young 70" and I thought this person knows nothing about me. Then he proceeded to ask me if I was special. I said what does that mean and he said you seem that way since you won't return the rose and still want the refund. A mistake was made on their part. And through out this conversation his voice was getting louder and I believe he was trying to intimidate me. At this point I just hung up the phone. I'm going to wait until the fall and have my neighbor come and get the rose so she can replant it at an appropriate time of year. read more

You can always depend on getting great product and the selection is fantastic. The customer experience for the independent shopper is lovely-- wandering through the different greenhouses and outdoor lots. You also can expect that staff will be rude. This will happen if you spend any length of time, need a question answered, or are looking for something specific. There is always someone there being rude each time I go, and I go back fewer times each year. Manage your expectations to a low service level and you will be fine. read more

My significant other and I went to your Christmas bazaar, and went in to gift shop first with great service, went into plant side and was treated so horribly for not wearing a face diaper, we spent over 160.00 there!!!! I wish we didn't go through with purchase, I asked for a bag and the old haggard lady said "they cost" duh I know that, and to top it off they were gonna wrap my purchases in tissue paper and decided not to because we would not adhere to their face diaper. Horrible Horrible place. I even wished her a Merry Christmas and she gave me the STINK EYE!!!! Christianson's Nursery & Greenhouse hasn't diverted their focus or sold out like a lot of other nurseries that have shifted to more of a gift store business. Christianson's is a FULL SERVICE nursery with knowledgeable staff and an enormous array of quality plants and products. And they're BIG into education! They offer classes, events, and a weekly radio broadcast called The Garden Show Sunday Mornings With John and Mike on AM 660 KAPS at 10:30 am. I think Christianson's is the best around and I'm happy to support them with my dollars and hauling friends and relatives there to introduce them to the place. read more

Today I went to Christianson's and unknowingly rubbed up against a freshly painted wall/doorway. No wet paint sign. My $100 jacket and my $70 pants were completely covered in white paint and ruined. I went to an employee who brought us to a sink in hopes we could wash it off. No such luck. I asked to speak to the owner, but he refused to speak with me, and sent a supervisor (?) in his place. I told her what happened and she basically said, "Bummer. We'll put up a sign." I was in tears at this point and told her that was not an appropriate resolution. After speaking to the owner, I was offered a $30 gift card to the store! WTH?? That's just goddamn insulting! Then she basically accused me of trying to shake them down. I told her that I don't need the money, but that I walked into their business wearing nice clothes and am leaving with them ruined and that it was their fault. I also told her that we could certainly resolve this through the Better Business Bureau. She rolled her eyes. I said, "look, I'm not trying to be a Karen. I'm not complaining about nothing, and you're being insulting. After rolling her eyes again, and making me wait again, I was offered a $100 gift certificate. While that does not fully compensate me, at least it wasn't a slap in the face, and should have been where they started. Incidentally, two employees asked me if the owner made it right, and when I told them, the BOTH rolled their eyes, and said "that figures," and profusely apologized for him. Btw, why in the hell are they painting in the middle of the day when the placed is PACKED with customers?? And no signage??? read more

I've been a regular for 15 years. Their selection is incomparable in the area. However, I feel they are rather a victim of their own (obvious) success. Places that are not as successful, just have to try harder. C's doesn't, to the chagrin of many good customers. Areas for improvement: better labeling/organization in the greenhouses. Too many unnecessary and bewildering searches for a plant. Not enough help on the "floor". (Kudos to the staff for their expertise, though.) Non-responsiveness to email queries. No more need be said about that. On the plus side: plants I can't find anywhere else. Good job here. read more

Very dissatisfied with the customer service provided to us recently. We have purchased many plants from here that have grown with much success however we had one that didn't work out and we saw store policy that allowed for exchanges for plants that aren't growing as expected. Although I applaud the return policy, I don't appreciate the customer service (or lack thereof). We had gone in the day prior to ask about what we can do about this plant and she seemed less than pleased to discuss it with us. The next day her attitude was just as uncomfortable. Understandably they didn't seem happy about taking the plant back but they also criticized my expertise despite the rest of my plants (that were also bought from here) thriving. After this return experience I should have just gone to another nursery which will be my suggestion to anyone in a similar position. read more

Lots of the usual and unique plants, trees at PREMIUM PRICES. If you are expecting people who love to talk about their love of plants and connect with you over a shared hobby, this is NOT the place to go. Customer service is a lot less unique and way too usual! There is no excitement on any of their parts that you are there and interested in plants. If you like spending more money than you should and want an attitude of self righteousness, no conversation, no smiles, this is the place for you. Will never go back. Would rather go to Wiggins nursery where they go out of their way to talk to you about what you'd looking for, what they have and just have a great experience whether you buy something or not. read more

You cannot beat this nursery for the selection and knowledge of the plants by the staff. Whenever I am considering a new plant, I stop at Christianson's first. Last year, I wanted a lavender plant and the staff discussed all the different types of lavender they had but cautioned me to wait until their new shipment came in to get exactly the right plant for my location (mountains) and dry gardening needs. Last week, I bought some berries for fall planting and the cashier gave me a wealth of advice on soil amendments and specific needs of my blueberries. Wear comfortable shoes that you won't mind getting dirty because you'll be walking a lot to explore all that they have. When it is raining, there are a lot of mud puddles that you can't avoid, but even when it isn't raining, there are plenty of muddy spots from watering the plants. I love this place. If they don't have what I want, they will even tell me where to go to get it. (e.g. peat moss) read more
