Such a cute little shop! It's easy to support small mom n pop businesses when they're doing it right... The woman helping me (perhaps the owner or mgr) was great! She walked me to each section I was interested in, and expertly located each title within seconds. * They offer free wi-fi * Reading/ study area with couches & tables * A chess-playing table, complete with all pieces * Bar-style seating situated at windows * Coffee & drinks allowed I enjoy reading and studying for my classes so this place is a huge plus in the area. It's much quieter than Starbucks or Steeltown which makes study time more productive. read more

I attended an amazing Book Signing from author Makesha Henderson, who wrote the Mallya's World book series today. Not only were the books amazing, but the Railroad Book Depot is also the most quaint, homey, welcoming, environment for a bookstore. They're in an excellent location, easy to find, with convenient off-street parking in downtown Pittsburg. The manager, Irene, was so friendly and helpful. I really had a great time overall. I will definitely be visiting them again! Ms. Golden read more

This place is downtown. The parking is pretty good here. It's a little cozy bookstore . They have a pretty good kids section. They have good seating. The prices are pretty reasonable. The people who work there are very nice. I believe they have story time for kids. Overall I prefer cozy books stores then ordering online. This place is definitely worth stopping by and getting a good book. read more

Railroad Book Depot looks likes a mini barnes & noble. it's clean and spacious with book shelves spaced at angles. Railroad sits in the middle of the new development in the revitalized old pittsburg. i asked the clerk/owner? why they would open a bookstore when barnes & nobles are closing everywhere. his answer? "we do it better. it's fun" looking forward to browsing here again when they are better stocked with books. they have a few new books but mostly it's used books. presently, book pickings are anemic at present. there's a lounge area with sofas and tables with the chessboard designs. they are across from 615 restaurant. their motto: "recycle your gently read books with us." read more

Railroad Book Depot - Bookstores Near Me - Pittsburg, California

Very sweet little bookstore with a decent selection of new and used books. Clean, sunny and well-organized. I was impressed with the quality of the used books, especially the childrens' books. You had to look at the first page for the "new" or "price" sticker to determine if the book was new or used. None of the books were worn or tired looking. I also appreciated the fact that the floors were spotless so you could sit or kneel without feeling you had to dust yourself off. There are two immaculate bathrooms. The staff person was very friendly and helpful. Maybe not a destination place but well worth a visit if you have things to do in the Pittsburg area. read more

I've lived in Pittsburg all my life and all I've ever wished for to be built in this city is a bookstore and I finally got my wish. This bookstore is small but offers a decent variety of new and used books. If you're in the area and get tired of reading on your Nook or Kindle and want to feel the weight of an honest-to-goodness real book in your hand, you should visit the Railroad Book Depot. read more

Can't believe I haven't told you about this place. Independent Bookstore in adorable Downtown Pittsburg. New and Used Book Fun! read more

We ate breakfast across the street and saw this neighborhod bookstore. The two women working in the store were very friendly, greeting us as soon as we walked in and then were available to help but weren't pushy or bothersome. The books are almost all used and very reasonably priced. I am an e-reader person these days but found 3 cheap books (1/2 price) in very good condition. I also overheard one of the women saying that the store is non-profit, so even better... read more

Such a wonderful find in Old Town Pittsburg! Clean, friendly atmosphere, nice selection of "previously enjoyed" books, new books, and gift items for book-lovers. May seem a little pricey for a "used book" store, but all proceeds go to a wonderful cause. This will definitely be a new haunt. read more

I've been here several times and always have a pleasant visit.  It's small and quaint. If they don't have what you're looking for, they'll try to find it and have it delivered. Prices are fair, especially on clearance & used items. Staff are kind and helpful. Bathrooms are large, clean & stocked. read more

I went in to this bookstore first to sell some of my used books. I went in with five full tubs of books and was offered only $100. 95% of the books I had were in excellent, like new condition and were hard cover. It was a ridiculously low offer. I've tried a few more times to purchase books from them. The used books they have in their store are overpriced and frequently in poor condition. They don't have a very large selection and having them order books for me is far more expensive than purchasing it elsewhere. I'm very disappointed. the only reason I gave it two stars is that the place is neat and tidy. the employees don't care to interact much, but they are at least friendly when they do. read more

I love this place! It's a great bookstore with not only books, but other little gifts and stuff. They support local authors, such as myself too. They allowed me to do a book signing a few months ago. Thank you for stocking my Darkness to Light memoir. I really appreciate it! read more

Charming, Charming, CHARMING!! Husband and I love mom and pop bookstores (something hard to find now) and we were thoroughly delighted. Such a cute and inviting entrance. Books well labeled and easy to peruse. Books were used and new. Very clean and maintained. We had our niece with us, and we walked in on time for some "Spring Picture Coloring"--very cool for the Spring Break Week. Bathroom was immaculate. We purchased 3 books under $20. Staff was so incredibly friendly. Thank you. Keep up the good job! We hope to see you soon!! read more

Thanks to Yelp, I found this treasure in Old Town Pittsburgh. In fact, it is the only reason I visited the town, as bookstores of independent means are becoming rare. I really loved this place. The new and used books are mixed together, so I could find, right in front of me, a brand new children's title that no other bookstore carried along with several older first editions of history and classics. I came to peruse and perhaps purchase just one or two books and left with so many that I had to move my car closer just so I could manage carrying the books to the trunk! While I didn't require the assistance of the employees, I did notice that they went out of their way to help a youngster find a title. Also, the store is very open, so you can move around with ease. They also have a Book Club for movie-lovers, and there are restaurants and a coffee shop across the street. We loves it, we do. read more

I came in recently looking for a gift for my friend who loves books and unique things because I read they have gifts as well. I went in and the clerk was really welcoming and attentive. I ended up getting a soy candle, body butter, and journal. I loved everything I got. The candle and body butter were a bit pricey but definitely looked custom made which I was told it was, and they were beautifully packaged with ribbon. The proceeds go back to the literacy program in the community which I felt great about too. The clerk looked for a box for each item and packaged them up nicely without me asking, how sweet! She even gave my baby a free book. She saved me a lot of time since I got the card there too so it was a once stop shop. I also saw they sell some See's candies. I will be back. read more

I highly recommend you visit this local bookstore. The interior is beautiful, the staff are very supportive and helpful, they host fun events, and they have some really cool gifts (in case your book shelf is already full of books to read). I also like that they'll take your used books for credit. I suggest you start your visit across the street at Steeltown Coffee & Tea to pick up something yummy to drink in a to-go cup, walk to Railroad Book Depot and spend some time browsing the shelves. Old Town Pittsburg is just beautiful and there really are some very cool small/independent businesses for you to visit. I highly recommend you drop in. read more

I love all the little novelty gifts that they have in addition to the books. Great events for all of the community as well. I love the heart and vision of the owners who are trying to make the space a safe place for everyone to learn outside of academia. I think this is what Pittsburg needs, a place where learning is encouraged. I'd love to get more involved with the business. read more

There is a very good selection of books and everything is clean and well displayed. There's a couple of tables and some soft chairs where a couple of mother/father/child reading sessions were going on. Downtown Pittsburg has become a good place to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon. What a wonderful addition to Old Town Pittsburg! This bookstore is warm, welcoming, and boasts an excellent selection of new books, gift items, and used books. If you're a reader or just enjoy browsing books, you will absolutely love the Railroad Book Depot. The staff here is friendly, personable, and helpful. You will enjoy everything from their cheerful "hellos" to their thoughtful assistance and recommendations. Most incredibly, the store looks like it could be in the middle of Danville, Walnut Creek, or San Francisco - its very well done and incredibly cute inside. The kids section has a child-sized table, and there are lots of big leather chairs to cuddle up in on a rainy day. You'll enjoy shopping at this quaint little gem of a bookstore, and best of all, you'll feel great doing it. All proceeds from this independent bookstore benefit the local community. That's shopping at its best! read more

I live near by the old town marina district. I am so pleased to have a convenient bookstore so close by. This one is more than just any old bookstore. It is well done, immaculate, friendly and good selection. If you can't find what you are looking for, you can order it. Within a few days the book is there. The best thing is to settle into their comfy couch or chairs and relax. Wireless is available there too. A great environment to just enjoy, relax and read. read more

At first glance this looks like a cute one-off independent book store. People are nice and it is in a cool location in a part of town that's trying to become something. We found out that the book store is owned by the city - I assume as part of the redevelopment effort. The selection of books is somewhat limited, but never-the-less, I found a few that piqued my interest to purchase. It is well worth a visit if you like books. read more

What a great book store. It's so nice to feel a real book and flip through the pages rather than looking at one online.
